Rock Legend Mobbed By Fans
antiMusic reports: Ramones legend Marky Ramone and his solo band got a lot more than they bargained for when traveling south of the border to play for Mexican fans last weekend. Here is the tale as posted on Marky's Myspace blog:

Everyone's ok, but things got way over the top concerning the safety of the band and out of hand for Marky and The Blitzkrieg at [Saturday] night's show in Mexico. The van taking the band back to the hotel was besieged by fans resulting in an injury to one of the touring party protecting the exiting band. The security at the venue did their best, but were overwhelmed by the numbers and intensity of the situation. They had never had to deal with anything like that before.

In trying to leave the venue, there was a pile up at the exit door as fans rushed to Marky on his attempted exit. Surrounded by over zealous fans pounding on the windows of the band van, cracking the windshield, one fan clinging to the side of the vehicle was thrown into on coming traffic. He was ok as later he and a friend eventually caught up with the van in a taxi shouting and waving at their hero. - more on this story

Kelly Clarkson To Surpass U2
Reuters reports: Kelly Clarkson will replace U2 at the top of the Billboard 200 next week with her second chart-topper, according to preliminary estimates on Thursday.

"All I Ever Wanted," the fourth release from the inaugural "American Idol" champ, should sell as many as 200,000 copies in the six days ended March 15.

But industry prognosticators caution the number could increase depending on how her assorted TV performances this week will affect the album's start.

Steven Adler Slams Axl Rose
Blabbermouth reports: Chris Mautner of The Patriot-News recently conducted an interview with former Guns N' Roses and current Adler's Appetite drummer Steven Adler.

The Patriot-News: When you look back at those days in GN'R * Adler: Oh, those were great days. It was a great time. It's a shame that Axl [Rose, GN'R singer] put me through all that ... he did. He likes to blame people, like everything's Slash's fault, that's why we're not going to do a reunion. What did Slash do? He didn't do anything.

The Patriot-News: Well, that's what I was going to ask. With all that bitterness, does it tarnish your memory of those early days? * Adler: Oh, those memories are tarnished. They've been tarnished for a long time. But I survived it, and am a better person and stronger person for it. - read more

Metallica Club Show?
Blabbermouth reports: Austin360.com reports that Austin Powell of The Austin Chronicle says he's received confirmation from the Metallica camp that the metal superstars will indeed be playing Austin's legendary venue Stubb's on Friday, March 20 at 10:00 p.m. as part of the Guitar Hero: Metallica showcase during the Texas capital's annual South By Southwest (SXSW) music and media festival.

Roland Swenson of SXSW was not too happy with Powell's "Off the Record" scoop, however. "He didn't get it from us," Swenson told Austin360.com. "We were told not to confirm anything and we're sticking by that."

Stubb's is an outdoor venue that holds only 2,100. South By Southwest badges and wristbands will be getting priority for entry. There will also be a line for those willing to pay cover, but admission will be based on space availability. - more on this story

Beatles peripheral? During a recent sitdown with The New Yorker, Van Morrison waxed nostaglic on the music he grew up on. When skiffle pioneer Lonnie Donegan and 'other practioners of pre-Beatles rock 'n' roll' came up, Morrison took issue with the term. "That's a clich," he said. "I don't think 'pre-Beatles' means anything, because there was stuff before them. Over here, you have a different slant. You measure things in terms of The Beatles. We don't think music started there. Rolling Stone magazine does, because it's their mythology... The Beatles were peripheral. If you had more knowledge about music, it didn't really mean anything. To me, it was meaningless."He doesn't think much of Elvis either.

"Rapper" Joaquin Phoenix Vs "Fan"
AP reports: Joaquin Phoenix appears to be getting into the act of being a petulant hip-hop star. He jumped off the stage during a short performance at the LIV nightclub early Thursday morning and confronted an audience member who was heckling him. Security guards dragged him back on stage and escorted him away.

He began rapping to a beat played by the DJ and nodding to the music, although most of the lyrics were unintelligible. Then he responded to someone who appeared to be heckling him in the audience near the stage.

"We have a (double-expletive) in the audience," he said before jumping into the crowd. It was not immediately clear whether the two men exchanged any blows. - more on this story

U2 Looking Backwards
Reuters reports: Irish band U2 provided a prelude to its upcoming world tour with a brief private show on Wednesday for just 950 fans who got a chance to make news by asking the band some tough questions.

Among the revelations from the banter with the crowd: U2 is considering reworking and re-releasing some early work including its debut album, 1980's "Boy," which included U2's first big hit, "I Will Follow."

"I would love to sing that album again and finish that," said lead singer Bono. He said the band was rushed from the studio producing "Boy" because they "couldn't afford another hour."

"The early records, there's some beautiful songs that feel a little bit unfinished to us," he said. - more on this story

Oh No Not Stereo Week: Final Day
antiMusic reports: Oh No Not Stereo's new album '003' hits stores this week and to celebrate we asked Sky Nielsen (vox, gtr, etc) to give us the inside story to five favorites from the effort. Here is Sky with today's song "Let's Get It Started":

This is an anathematic song that Myk came up with before asking me to help with lyrics and simple riffs while we were writing in Arizona.

This track is a great example of how we take pride in speaking our minds. We're serious about working hard and playing hard, all the time. In this case, we're reflecting on what we DON'T want in life; we always try to stay strong and forward-driven with our band.
