No Doubt and Motley Crue Stars Guest on Dilana's Debut Album
PR reports: Dilana, a deep-voiced fount of rock 'n' roll excitement, left her hometown of Johannesburg, South Africa a few years ago to escape what she has described as "madness and violence in the city," relocating to the Netherlands, where she became a local star, playing festivals and sharing a stage with Joe Cocker in front of 100,000 people.

Fast-forward to 2009 and 'InsideOut,' Dilana's album debut, out November 17th from Kabunk! Records. "Holiday" kick-starts the record, setting the pace (fast) and energy (lots of it). Dilana's gravelly voice and powerful delivery make her rock-star presence immediately known, and her vocal swagger is matched only by her lyrics. On the chorus of "Holiday" she sings: "Oh my life has changed/Like a holiday/Feels so damn good/Like Hollywood/I'm gonna, I'm gonna shove this life in your face/Gonna give you a taste."

'InsideOut' features No Doubt drummer Adrian Young and Mtley Cre guitarist Mick Mars, and was produced by Dave Bassett. Dilana, now a Los Angeles resident who still tours worldwide, is also known for being the runner-up on CBS's first season of 'Rockstar: Supernova.' Judge Dave Navarro gave Dilana's rendition of "Lithium" an enthusiastic standing ovation, along with the rest of the audience. - http://myspace.com/dilanarox

Gov't Mule Return With New Album
antiMusic reports: Gov't Mule's By A Thread, their first studio album in three years will be released on October 27th, 2009. Here is some info on the release: With 2 million paid song downloads through their site MuleTracks, seven critically acclaimed studio records already released, a handful of DVDs and live albums, plus an ever-expanding fanbase and sold-out coast-to-coast tours, Gov't Mule could easily rest on its laurels.

Yet when you're in one of the hardest working bands in rock history, pushing yourself to greater heights always supersedes cashing in on past successes. For guitarist/lead vocalist Warren Haynes and his band, Gov't Mule, creating a new album is akin to walking a tightrope: Write new songs that please old fans, while hopefully garnering new ones. Develop that material in the studio rather than on the road, to prevent premature leaks via the internet. Celebrate the roots of American music, yet take sonic forays into the future. Honor the memory of the late Allen Woody, while simultaneously welcoming new bassist Jorgen Carlsson into the fold.

With By A Thread, Gov't Mule's first studio album in three years, recorded at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in the Texas Hill Country, the band which also features drummer Matt Abts and multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis meets those challenges and more.

"It feels like we're moving forward and backward at the same time," Haynes notes. "Hardcore fans tend to not want us to move too far away from where we started, but the band never wants to stay in one place for very long."

Why AC/DC Matters
PR reports: AC/DC is the second-best-selling popular music act of all time, bested only by The Beatles. They've sold 200 million albums worldwide. Back in Black is the second best-selling album in the world behind Michael Jackson's Thriller at 49 million copies sold. U.S. history at 22 million copies sold. In 2008, thirty-five years after AC/DC first took to the stage, their sixteenth studio album, Black Ice, debuted at #1 in 29 countries around the world, despite the fact that it was only available in WalMart, Sam's Club, and via the band's website.

So with credentials like these, why is a book titled WHY AC/DC MATTERS (William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers; Hardcover; October 13, 2009) necessary? Because, from the start, AC/DC was at best ignoredand at worst ridiculedby the mainstream music press. In AC/DC's thirty-five-year history, the band has graced the cover of Rolling Stone exactly twicethere was no Bon Scott memorial issue, no exclusive "in the studio" pieces, and no fitting recognition in any of the magazine's endless "greatest" lists. The mainstream media's critical subtext has always been that AC/DC is unworthy of serious consideration, an inexplicably popular band for the tasteless masses, selling the obvious to an unseen, uncultured majority.

Now, Anthony Bozza sets the record straight. In addition to helming Rolling Stone's "Random Notes" column for two years, he penned a wide array of cover stories and features on artists ranging from Trent Reznor to Jennifer Lopez to Ozzy Osbourne and Bo Didley. Bozza also has several mega-selling books to his credit: he wrote Whatever You Say I Am: The Life and Times of Eminem, and co-wrote comedian Artie Lange's Too Fat to Fish which debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list, Tommyland, the autobiography of Mtley Cre drummer Tommy Lee, and Slash, the autobiography of Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver's legendary guitarist. In WHY AC/DC MATTERS, Bozza throws down the gauntlet when he states, "AC/DC is the greatest living rock band, end of story." Coming from him, this means something. - more on this story

Alice in Chains and Anthrax Stars To Open Vegas Rock Bar
PR reports: Two icons of rock have joined forces to create a new rock bar and performance space in Las Vegas. Alice in Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian plan to launch the venue, Dead Man's Hand, in November.

The bar will feature none of the trendy dcor, snobby attitude and outlandish prices so prevalent in Vegas. Instead, Dead Man's Hand will favor grit over glitz, providing customers great music, cool atmosphere and affordable drinks all year long.

"We want this to be a place that we would want to hang out in," Ian says. "There's a huge segment of the music audience that likes to go out but doesn't want to go to places that only play Lil Wayne and Lady Gaga and charge $750 for a bottle of vodka. We want to be the opposite of that."

"I always wanted to have a cool joint with some friends that would be a great place to go at night," adds Cantrell, "It's close to Los Angeles, and a lot of cool bands and people hit Vegas. We wanted to make a fun place for everybody to hang." - more on this story

Slayer Deluxe Album To Include Horror Short By Metalocalypse Director
HER reports: It was only a matter of time before Slayer's lyrics leapt off the printed page and made their wanton way to the visual medium. The band's discography is gorged with tales of mass murderers, serial sadists and drooling deviants of every stripe - vicious mental cases just begging for a cinematic reception.

Enter Metalocalypse director and big-time Slayer fan Mark Brooks who created a 20-minute DVD titled Playing with Dolls, a 12-episode video-graphic novel that will be included exclusively in Slayer's World Painted Blood Deluxe Edition, out November 3 in tandem with the World Painted Blood Standard Edition. Inspired by the songs on World Painted Blood - in particular, Jeff Hanneman's "Playing With Dolls" from which the horror short takes its title - the film blends elements of animation and still-photography into a visual style similar to that of a graphic novel. A trailer for the short has just been posted at www.slayer.net The soundtrack for the Playing With Dolls short features clips from all 11 of the songs on World Painted Blood; in addition, the music bed for Episode #7 is taken from "Atrocity Vendor," a new song that is not on the album.

"It's not live action and it's not animated," Brooks explains. "It's a weird hybrid of the two, and I haven't seen a lot of things done this way."

Singled Out: SwampDaWamp
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Gig Michaels from southern rock powerhouse SwampDaWamp tells us about "Daddy Said" from their brand new album "Rock This Country". We now turn it over to Gig for the story:

This track is straight from the heart. I had a little riff I had been working on and came up with a melody line. I got together with Scooby (our b3/piano player), and he helped work out the rest of the song with the verse and bridge music. That really sewed up the music bed for the song and now it was lyric time.

Within the month that I was working on this song, I had three of my best friends' fathers pass away within a couple weeks of one another. Well, I'm an emotional wreck anyway; a Hallmark commercial can draw tears from me! LOL! Anyway, I wanted to grieve with my friends, and at the same time I wanted to help them to see all the good things they should celebrate from their fathers' lives. Once I got on a roll with the theme of the song the lyrics came rather quickly.

Every line in the verses is advice that came from their fathers, as well as from my dad at one time or another. I had asked each of my friends to tell me some things they remembered their father telling them; I used some from each, and, of course, they are things that every father would advise you. In verse one telling you that, "you don't have to be no hero, don't go changing who you are," which represents his unconditional love, and uplifting advice like, "Don't be forgetful, and always do your best to try," to financial advice, "don't throw away your pennies, add them up over time," and in verse two a stern warning, "life is what you make it, and that bed that you make is where you'll lie".

The bridge of the song is the meat of all advice from your father with the lines, "you got to want to want to get better, don't be the quitting kind," and then, "You got to walk the talk you put out there, it's what you leave behind," which means be true to yourself and your word, the old "do what you say" quotation.

The chorus offers up the healing side of the song's message, "Daddy's leaving for the last time, here come the angels, they're gonna carry him away," a safe passage of comfort and the line, "He's walkin on water, the shadow in my life," represents he'll always be there in spirit.

When I finished the song, I decided to go to Nashville and tweak it out with the highly respected songwriter, Kirsti Manna. Kirsti is one of the writers on "She's Country," the Jason Aldean hit just to mention one of many. What a wonderful person she is, we went over the song and reworded a couple things and then voila!

I also have to give credit to the boys in the band. They make a bed of music like no other that completes a piece of musical brilliance on anything I write!!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
