Stabbing At Cruefest
thebatavian.com reports: John Michael Bieganski is doing fine now, but he might not be doing so great if not for the quick action of a group of people willing to step forward and help him Saturday night after he was stabbed in the leg by a knife-wielding assailant. Bieganski, 23, a Clarence resident, had his leg cut during Cruefest, the concert of Motley Crue at Darien Lake Theme Park.

A friend carried him from the mosh pit (a tangle of dancing males (usually) who typically bang against each other and jump up and down and side-to-side rather violently) after he had been stabbed.

Trouble started for Bieganski, according to a Sheriff's Office report, when he thought he saw a friend being tackled and punched but one or two other men. When he tried to pull one of the men off his friend -- it turned out not to be his friend who was being attacked -- Bieganski said he suddenly felt something warm on his leg, touched it and then saw the blood. - more on this story

Band Attacked Outside of Show
Lambgoat reports: Liferuiner, clearly no strangers to drama, were the targets of some troublemakers following a show at Jazz Central in Dayton, OH this week. Ultimately, the melee resulted in a few minor injuries. Here's a statement from the band: "Before anyone gets the wrong impression, and runs their mouth to Lambgoat who obviously does not give a sh*t about anything concerning this band, here's what really happened in Dayton, Ohio on Wednesday night...

"We showed up at Jazz Central, the only people who were there were our friends in The Gun Show, the promoter and someone working with him, and 2 girls that we know from the columbus area. The opening band Did you mean, Australia shows up, and in the time it took them to play their set some other kids had arrived. During our set 2 or 3 of these kids, one wearing a ski mask started dancing like ---holes, throwing chairs, being overly disrespectful which is something none of us are down with, so we already anticipated there being a problem later on. Once our set was finished I ran outside to check and make sure no damage was done to our vehicles. There was a group of 12-13 kids outside by their cars yelling sh*t about us being faggots or whatever so I ran back inside to make sure everyone was aware, in the time it took me to go inside and back out, Kevin got in a scuffle with one of the kids, and had him on the ground, he was pulled off by security and then all hell broke loose.

We were completely outnumbered so while trying to square up with 1 kid at a time we had to worry about multiple kids 'jumping' us from behind. Our guitar player Dave was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head, so he's got a few small cuts and some bruising around his left eye. Our tour manager Billy got hit in the head with a maglite and had to get 6 stitches which is why our band had to go to the hospital that night. Myself, Kevin and the others are all fine despite the show these kids put on. I was hit by a car, struck in the back with a baseball bat, as well as Kevin being hit moments earlier. - more on this story

Switchfoot Set New Album Release
Atlantic Records reports: On November 10, Atlantic Records will release Hello Hurricane, the seventh full-length album from the multi-Platinum, San Diego-based rock band Switchfoot.

Hello Hurricane is the group's first album on Atlantic Records and its first studio album since 2006's Oh! Gravity, which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200. Switchfoot has been hard at work on Hello Hurricane, tracking more than 80 songs at the band's self-built home studio and selecting the very best of them for the record. The band recorded the album with noted producer/bassist Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Rilo Kiley, Eminem, and Pink). The edgy, driving lead single "Mess of Me" goes for adds at Modern and Active Rock radio this month.

The back-to-basics approach employed has yielded a career-defining album that lead singer Jon Foreman views as "a new beginning." Elizondo's unique background facilitated a departure for the band, allowing it to build on SWITCHFOOT's foundation, punctuated by hard-hitting instrumentation and soaring choruses, and elevating the music to a new level. - more on this story

Megadeth Vs Slayer
Rock Radio reports: Classic thrash music is at front and centre right now as Megadeth and Slayer line up to release what are, for both acts, stunning returns to form. There are even rumours about the Big Four - completed by Metallica and Anthrax - touring together for the first, and almost certainly only, time ever.

That's despite wars of words which have spanned the decades, and which have returned to the headlines in recent weeks. You'd think perhaps these iconic musicians would be keeping the olive branch shop busy.

Instead - and despite a successful double-header tour of Canada last month, further dates planned, and Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine's claim of no longer being the most hated man in thrash - Slayer's Kerry King isn't ready to turn the gas off just yet. He tells GuitarWorld.com: "I just don't have any respect for Dave. As far as playing goes he's awesome. But I know things. I know he's a hypocrite and I have no respect for that kind of person. But when I see him I'll say, 'What's up Dave?' If he's not an ---hole to me, I won't be one to him." - He's just getting warmed up

Ozzy's New Guitarist Talks About Stepping Into Zakk Wylde's Shoes
Blabbermouth reports: This month's issue of the Greek edition of Metal Hammer magazine features an exclusive interview with FIREWIND guitarist Gus G. about his current stint as the lead axeman in OZZY OSBOURNE's solo band. Gus explains how he came to be considered for the position, discusses his first audition with the Prince Of Darkness and expresses his admiration for Zakk Wylde, whom he replaced in Ozzy's group. Read on for some of Gus G.'s quotes from the interview. (Original Greek-language quotes translated for Blabbermouth.Net by Hakos Pervanidis.)

On how the whole thing came about: Gus: "I got a message on my MySpace page from Rob 'Blasko', Ozzy's bass player, asking me what was doing, if was living in America or not and saying that he wanted to talk to me. I never thought he'd want me for something like that [playing with Ozzy]. I initially thought that maybe he wanted to talk to me about doing a project or something and then he told me that one of Ozzfest's managers was looking for me. The manager said that they wanted me to fly out to Los Angeles immediately for a show that Ozzy was about to do in Anaheim, California."

His thoughts on Zakk Wylde: Gus: "Zakk is a tremendous guitar player , just like all the guys that have played with Ozzy. In fact, Zakk is my favorite Ozzy guitar player ever and my biggest influence of them all! It's quite an honor for me to step into his shoes." - A lot more at Blabbermouth

Singled Out: FranKo
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today FranKo frontman Tommy Bastow tells us about both tracks included in their single which hit iTunes this week. We now turn it over to Tommy for the story:

Night Time was one of the earliest tracks that we wrote - and being nearly two years old, there is still something very special and unique about this one and it's a killer to play at gigs! Beau came up with the bass line on the piano long before FranKo were formed it was an idea "floating about" I remember him saying. After a half an hour phone call with Chris (our bass player) the line was converted from piano to bass guitar. We built the chords for the verse around this line and then came up with a chorus for the song - the melody came quickly, as did the lyrics, and we pretty much completed the song in one band rehearsal, which is rare. The inspiration behind the lyrics comes from the attached feelings of the anxiety you get when you're going out and the excitement that comes with it. Also, the need for excitement that we all crave "looking back on day, and speaking out for more" shows the frustration which often is spent waiting to go out! I think that communicates to the audience - it's definitely an exciting listen and is an upbeat number. It's also a song which absolutely everyone can relate to, which always helps. The track has some definite pop elements but throughout the song there's an underlying feeling of mischief and anarchy which gives it its FranKo sound. After the guitar solo, there is an epic build up to the climax of the song (the last chorus) and when we play this live (usually it's our last song) they go crazy for it, especially for the first time listeners.

Today: This song took AGES to get right we've been gigging with it since the very beginning, but some changes have been made over time. I remember writing the lyrics to this one when I was filming- Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging. On set you always have hours upon hours of time waiting around so I thought I'd make use of the time. After spending about an hour doodling on a page I began to write lyrics, I thought of all the things which make me happy and then figured out how I could turn those into lyrics for a song which Rich had already recorded a demo for. The song has simple and catchy lyrics which make you feel good. Prior to writing the lyrics I was indulging in the likes of "What a Wonderful World" and "Perfect Day"; both beautifully written songs. At that time I wanted to write a song that focused on what's good in life instead of usually writing about what's bad or corrupt. The lyrics and melodies were changed around a number of times, but when we recorded it in late 2007 we were happy with the end result. I remember going to record the vocals with Rich at Jim Lowe's recording suite in the Townhouse in London - it was a tiny room with rugs all over the walls and incense burning. It was also filled with guitars from famous artists which Rich and I were more than happy to mess around with!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the songs, listen for yourself and learn more about the group - right here!
