Metallica and Megadeth Supergroup?
(Rock News Desk) Dave Mustaine is trying to set up a supergroup with former Metallica bandmates James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich and Hetfield may be considering the move.

Relations between the Megadeth mainman and the band who fired him in 1983 have never been better, and Mustaine says he'd love to put their musical forces together in a collaborative project. And he's vowed he'll keep working on the Metallica frontman in the hope of persuading him to join in with him, Ulrich and Megadeth bassist David Ellefson.

"I've talked to Lars and James about me and David doing a supergroup record with them," Mustaine tells Texas radio station The Eagle Rocks. "Well, James never said 'no' it's still kind of out there in the air. I'm going to keep hammering on him." And what about a big 4 tour?

Aerosmith Sunk Van Halen Gig?
(RockAAA) Following the collapse of Australia's Soundwave Revolution touring festival, rumours have been rife regarding exactly who's to blame. Promoter AJ Maddah suggested in an interview with radio station Nova 969 that his attempts to nail down a co-headliner had been thwarted as the band in question failed to commit in time.

Internet rumours seemed to jump the gun and point the finger at Limp Bizkit, however front-man Fred Durst was quick to deny: "FYI, we were never on the bill to play any festival down under. So it looks like Van Halen cancels and we get thrown into the mix. Classic."

It now appears that Aerosmith may be next in the firing line from VH fans as Triple M radio's Nui Te Koha announced on his breakfast show that organisers had been chasing the Boston rockers for the slot. But Nui however is convinced much of this activity was used as a smokescreen to disguise the real issue poor ticket sales. more on this story

Muse Planning New Album
(Gibson) Muse are soon heading to the studio to begin work on their sixth album. Bassist Chris Wolstenholme told the BBC, "September and October, that's when we're going to get into the studio to start writing the new album."

Recent years have seen Muse go stellar. Muse's last album, 2009's The Resistance, won a Grammy Award for best rock album. The trio of singer/guitarist Matt Bellamy, bassist Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard have been touring this summer at numerous festivals.

Wolstenholme says that live gigs are still in their plans, despite increasingly elaborate albums. "We're always going to be the kind of band that want to get out and play live," Wolstenholme explained. "As the years go on there's that temptation to cut the touring down less and less but we still love playing live. I can't ever imagine we'll be the kind of band that cut the touring down significantly." But after songs from The Resistance leaked after Muse's pre-album live shows of 2009, Muse now plan to keep any new songs under wraps until release. more on this story

Tool's Paul D'Amour Returns With Feersum Ennjin
(Speak Easy) Paul D'Amour, founding member of Tool and Lusk, returns with Feersum Ennjin's self titled debut on Nov. 1, marking D'Amour's first rock release since 1995's Aenima.

Following his work with Tool, D'Amour created the psychedelic outfit Lusk with Brad Laner (Medicine), Greg Edwards (Autolux, Failure) and Chris Pitman (Gun N'Roses). Lusk released one critically-acclaimed and Grammy-nominated release, Free Mars, in 1997 but their label imploded shortly thereafter and the group subsequently disbanded. D'Amour moved on to film composition, where he has spent the next dozen years quietly working on music for film and television.

"Feersum Ennjin really started as a series of studio experiments but gradually took on a life of its own." Explains D'Amour on the reasons why he decided the time was right to create a new band after all of these years. "All of the different musical experiences of my past took form as I found a melodic thread to tie them all together as one sound. I'm looking forward to taking the next step, to make Feersum Ennjin a living, breathing entity that exists beyond the studio."

Feersum Ennjin was recorded at various Los Angeles studios with D'Amour acting as producer. The band will announce tour dates shortly.

Pop Fans Hijack Queen Honor
(Rock News Desk) Fans of pop singer Mariah Carey have come out in force to vote on a poll of the best-ever musical collaboration and pushed their heroine into first place ahead of artists including Queen, Davie Bowie, Mick Jagger, Aerosmith and the Beatles.

It's the second time in a week fan power has distorted the publication's attempts to gauge reader reactions, after Green Day supporters voted in large numbers and saw their band listed as the greatest punk rock band of all time.

Carey's 1995 single One Sweet Day with pop troupe Boyz II Men made number one, suggesting the runner-up track, Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie, was the natural poll-winner. Black Sabbath, Monster Magnet, Alice Cooper and Gov't Mule Supergroup To Debut
9 Chambers, the new group featuring Greg Hampton (Alice Cooper, Bootsy Collins, Lita Ford, and on recently unearthed Tommy Bolin recordings), former Monster Magnet guitarist Ed Mundell, Jorgen Carlsson (Gov't Mule) and Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath/Dio/Heaven & Hell), will release their self-titled debut album on September 27th.

The first single, 'Know Your Enemy', was inspired from the old adage "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer". Hampton says, "It's about when you hear people say one thing and mean another they twist the truth, but they're not totally lying. It's the wolf in sheep's clothing, a bit of an L.A. thing."

Mundell played guitar on such Monster Magnet classics as 1993's 'Superjudge,' 1995's 'Dopes to Infinity,' and 1998's gold-certified 'Powertrip.' But by late 2010, Mundell had had enough. "It was 18 years with Magnet, it wasn't treading on any new territory." During a well-deserved break, Mundell crossed paths with veteran guitarist Hampton and began to jam the classic rock n' roll way, naturally. Soon 9 CHAMBERS was born. more on this story

Procol Harum Live Blu-Ray Coming
Eagle Rock have announced a September 13th release date for Procol Harum's Live At Union Chapel on Blu-Ray.

One of the most classic of classic-rock groups, Procol Harum hit the scene running with a #1 on their very first shot out of the box. "Whiter Shade Of Pale" lit up 1967's "Summer Of Love" to set the scene for a decades long career ever since. In 2003, the band convened at Union Chapel in London, England in support of their The Well's On Fire album.

Twenty-one songs later, the crowd, and the band, were satiated with the after-glow kind of experience that one remembers for a lifetime. And it was all captured in high-definition. more on this story

Metal Label Vs Metal Blog
(Rock News Desk) A war of words has erupted between Century Media and a blog editor over the metal label's decision to pull its entire catalogue from Spotify.

Century decided to remove all material by its roster of over 200 acts after deciding the low revenues generated from the streaming service were damaging physical album sales, meaning bands including Duff McKagan, Iced Earth, Children of Bodom and Opeth were suffering financially.

They said they supported Spotify in principle, but had a responsibility to protect their artists' incomes. But Vince Neilstein, co-editor of Metal Sucks, has lashed out at the move and Century have replied in equally strong language. Read the heated exchange here
