Foo Fighters Cause Volcanic Quake |
Auckland GeoNet reported that the first quake happened during Tenacious D's opening set, but the biggest tremor came when the Foos took the stage.
"The cause of the shaking is most likely the weight of the 50,000 fans dancing, as 50,000 fans is equal to around 5,000 tonnes of mass moving (or moshing) on the ground for the duration of the concert," the scientists wrote. "This set up a nice harmonic vibration in the ground which was recorded in our nearby borehole seismometers."

Staind's Aaron Lewis To Release Additional Solo Songs |
"There's more country coming," Lewis told the Dallas Observer. "It's the first music that I was ever exposed to. It was when I was a kid and my grandfather was a huge country music fan and I heard it a lot Country music is a part of me. It certainly reflects my lifestyle. I live out in the middle of nowhere in a town of 1,200 people. I've got chickens and a house pig. I deer hunt and I fish. I really don't do many things that require a city."
As for the new country tracks, Lewis is shooting to re-release his Town Line EP in 2012, this time as a LP with six additional songs. "I was actually just in the studio so that, at the beginning of the year, Town Line can be re-released as a full-length," he said. "I just recorded six more songs. Now that my management is solid, we are going to re-release it.
"When I first released Town Line, I had let one management company go, hired a manager that didn't work out. It was only three months ago, tops, that I finally acquired a proper manager. Now, things can start rolling the way they need to. Town Line as a full-length is going to have all sorts of extra, bonus stuff."

Duff McKagan Talks Guns N' Roses Rock Hall Induction |
But Thursday, in his column forSeattle Weekly, Duff opened up a little to share his thoughts on the honor. "Music to me has never been a competitive sport," writes McKagan. "We do what we do, and if you connect with an audience and write the songs that feel good to you in the process, that is reward enough. Getting a Grammy or an American Music Award seems a little bit weird in this whole context. I mean, are you BETTER than all those other bands? No. You are just doing YOUR thing, and they theirs. It's not a competition."
"But it became very apparent to me that fans of GN'R felt very motivated for our band to 'get into the Hall.' All of those fans ARE very important to me, and thus getting this RRHOF nod was a victory for them. And so I am deeply honored and feel very good about this whole deal. Thank you all."

Heavy Drinking Linked To Loud Music |
According to a recent article from The Press Association (via NME), alcohol actually tastes sweeter when loud music is playing and the noise disorients you enough to throw off your sense of how much booze you've actually consumed. Universtity of Portsmouth psychologist Dr. Lorenzo Stafford conducted the study to determine why alcohol is sweeter in environments with loud music. Stafford said of his findings:
"Since humans have an innate preference for sweetness, these findings offer a plausible explanation as to why people consume more alcohol in noisy environments."

Muse To Change Things Up With New Album |
Muse have really established themselves at the forefront of alternative rock over the past few years. The band's range covers everything riff-driven rockers like 'Supermassive Black Hole' and 'Stockholm Syndrome' to piano driven alt-pop like 'Starlight' they even went for operatic grandeur on their latest record 'The Resistance.' Though they have tackled so many different styles already, bassist Chris Wolstenholme recently told Kerrang ! that it's time to change things up:
"[The band] feel like we are drawing a line under a certain period of what we've done in our career. It feels like it's time to move on and do something radically different. But then you could get into the studio and go back to what you're comfortable with. You get in the studio and there's a natural process and you have to see where a song will take you."
