Pantera Fans Want Reunion |
The Metal Den reports: Some fans on Facebook are calling for a one-off reunion/tribute concert or a series of US dates with the surviving members of disbanded Texas groove metal act Pantera: vocalist Philip H. Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott.
Despite the ongoing rumor in the press recently that fans wanted the band's legendary former lead guitarist, Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who was killed on stage in Dec/2004, replaced in a new Pantera band reformation, the Facebook Pantera Reunion Tour Cause wants to make it clear that they do not support the idea of replacing Dime, for nobody could ever truly replace the late great guitar God.

Singled Out: Hotel of the Laughing Tree |
Most of the songs on this record are meant to be open ended and intended for listeners to create their own interpretations. The lyrics of Weather Maps are intended to instill a feeling of getting caught up in a situation that you have little or no control over and the frustration associated with it. In this case, we were fed up with the condition of the music industry and how little control we have as a band in terms of improving it's nature.
This song was not on the original track listing of Terror and Everything After; we recorded all of the other tracks in January of 2010. In September, after we worked out a deal with Brookvale Records, we decided to return to Joshua Silverberg at Red Red Studio to record some b-sides. We love working with Joshua Silverberg as our producer. He has such a unique style and elevates all of our songs to a higher level. After hearing the final mix of Weather Maps, we wanted it to be on the final track list and the label had no objections. It's nice to be able to work with a group of people who give us free reign when it comes to creativity. If Brookvale's methodology is any indication of the music industry's future, maybe a few years down the road we'll be writing songs that have the complete opposite message.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

Manic Street Preachers Tragic Mystery |
One of the most genuine, committed and interesting British bands of the '90s, The Manic Street Preachers' brand of political rock was a biproduct of their tough upbringing in depression-hit south Wales. With coal mines closing and the economy in tatters, the band were on their way to emulating '70s icons The Clash in powerfully blending pop and politics when they hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Lyricist and rudimentary guitarist Richey Edwards disappeared from the Embassy Hotel in London, never to be seen again. It was a shock to all concerned, since he'd been scheduled to fly to America for some promotional work the next day. Instead, Edwards' passport was found back at his home in Wales and his car left unattended in a motorway service area near the Severn Bridge.

Eastern Conference Champions Return With New Album |
Lead singer Josh Ostrander explains why it took four years to finish their second album: "We knew this was going be a very important record for us when we started demoing and collecting songs. Every record and EP we released up until this point was truly a stepping-stone to this record. We wanted Speak-ahh to hit on every level. For the most part the band has adapted itself to getting things on their first or second takes whilst recording. I cant for the life of me tell you why this is our darkest record to date, it's not something we planned, we didn't even realize it until we looked at what we had finished."
Recorded in downtown Los Angeles, The ten-track album is a departure from the sound of their debut album. "After we recorded Ameritown with Owen Morris, we had a hell of a time pulling off some of the songs live, it just got away from us in the studio," Josh reflected. "Since we began recording on our own, we always go into recording a song with a 'are we gonna be able to pull this off live' mentality. We never put two guitars down when one will do the job. We prefer the bones of it to an orchestra. We love the rawness."
Robert Plant Compares Band of Joy To Jefferson Airplane |
"This is the Band of Joy I played in all that time ago, or at least that was the plan: to go to the place where much of the music we were playing in the'60s originated, and play it with these people," Plant told The Observer. "But now it has a life of its own. In the free-form moments of our music, we're playing a mixture of Indo-jazz fusion and a great gig by Jefferson Airplane."
He also spoke about the significance of being a member of a band, rather than a solo artist. "Most of all, I want to be on these kind of terms with these kind of people," he said. "There's no point in doing it any other way, and if I did, I'd feel uncomfortable. I've got the big name, but I've always wanted to be in a band, one of a band. And this is what I have to be to do it."

Butch Vig Discusses Nirvana Reunion |
"I'm not exactly sure what the song's about," Vig said. "But to me, it seems there's definitely some references about Kurt Cobain, and it's one of the most primal, raw things the Foo Fighters have ever done it's quite an emotional roller-coaster ride when you hear it."
For all three participants, it was a rare moment to share: "When Krist came up to Dave's house, we sort of sat down and it was like, 'Holy [expletive], man!' We hadn't been in a room together the three of us in almost 20 years. We just sat around and shot the [expletive] for three or four hours. Dave and I were sipping on some wine, and Krist started drinking some bootleg whiskey, and it was great One story would lead to another story, and it was an amazing experience, just to be there, to open up all these things you may have forgotten about. It was really a pretty special part of the album."

Frank Zappa Alumni Taking Their Project/Object On The Road |
On this tour the band will be joined by alumni Ike Willis and Ray White, and at selected gigs, Denny Walley, Don Preston and Bunk Gardner. Project/Object's collaboration with these legends is a testament to the bands desire to present Zappa's music as it was recorded and performed live, while also developing creativity in live performance.
Ike Willis is the legendary Zappa vocalist and guitarist whose career with Frank began in the role of "Joe" on the quintessential Zappa album Joe's Garage, and continued for over a decade. He toured with Zappa's band in 1978 and appeared on every Zappa tour thereafter, as well as almost 30 Zappa albums. Ike also played an integral role in Zappa's legendary final tour in 1988. Ray White is a vocalist and guitarist who was drafted into Zappa's band in the fall of 1976, forming a memorable vocal harmony partnership with Ike Willis on later tours in 1980 and 1984. He participated on the albums Zappa in New York, Joe's Garage, Tinsel Town Rebellion, You Are What You Is, and many more. Denny Walley, who also recorded and toured with the late Captain Beefheart, toured with Zappa playing slide guitar in the mid 70s, and guested on records in the early 80s as well. Don Preston and Bunk Gardner, appearing at the tour closer in NJ, are part of the original lineups of Zappa's "Mothers Of Invention", touring and recording the late 60s classics beloved by most of Zappa's fan base.
Gary Cherone's Hurtsmile A Family Affair |
The album was released on January 21 in Europe. Hurtsmile is a family affair. In addition to Gary Cherone, Hurtsmile features his brother Mark on guitars, Joe Pessia (Nuno Bettencourt's Dramagods, Tantric) on bass and mandolin, and Dana Spellman (a student of Mike Mangini, onetime member of Extreme and Cherone's previous band Tribe of Judah) on drums and percussion.
"Hurtsmile was a long time coming I always wanted to write a record with my brother," Gary says. "I'm a big fan of Mark's songwriting and his snarling guitar riffs. Hurtsmile was about returning to my roots, writing a record in my basement, a straight-up rock 'n' roll record but it turned out to be more diverse and ambitious than I expected."
