Type O Negative Died With Peter Steele |
Steele suffered heart failure in April 2010 as the band were preparing to make a new album. And Kelly, who's currently touring with Danzig, says the saddest part is that he'd dealt with his addiction issues just before he died.
"I was in shock and it's still pretty unfathomable to me to think he's not here. I spent a good portion of my adult life with him; not only being in the band, but as one of my closest friends," The drummer tells Sweden's TV4. ""He was a very complex person, always a clown, always trying to make a joke, and he had no problem making jokes about himself. I'm convinced he rides with us: wherever we go, he's there with us.

No one was seriously injured when the vehicle struck a construction barrier. But frontman Chris Jericho, who was travelling with tourmates Anthrax, says when the incident took place he was discussing the fatal bus crash which killed Metallica's Cliff Burton in Sweden in 1986.
"As I was riding in the Anthrax bus, Fozzy's bus was in an accident. The band is okay, thank God, but the bus is trashed," Wrestling star Jericho says. "It's a miracle no one was hurt it skidded on two wheels for 50 feet and the side door was completely torn off."

Slash Baffled By Guns N' Roses Hysteria |
"I don't really like to spend time talking about them, but the interesting thing is the strong legacy about each band. The level of hysteria around the band or should I say the name Guns N' Roses has continued. I don't totally understand that.
"Velvet Revolver happened because Duff [McKagan] and I got together with Matt Sorum and Scott Weiland, and it was so good and intense we decided to carry it on. So trying to follow in Guns N' Roses' footsteps wasn't an issue for us at all, because it's been so long since Duff and myself had been in the band."

Oops... Two Metal Musicians Arrested for Drug Store Murders |
The band had been out celebrating the end of their tour when guitarist Paul Mcguire and bassist Kyle Rutherford went to a drug store in the early morning hours. Although the store's doors were open and the lights were on, it appeared that it was not officially open for business as an alarm went off, so the band members left and went to another store down the road. As they were leaving, a number of NYPD squad cars surrounded them and they were thrown to the ground by police officers and arrested at gunpoint. The two were charged with criminal trespass, petit larceny, burglary and criminal possession of stolen property.
Mcguire and Rutherford spent the next 36 hours being moved between crowded jail cells and witnessing violence and intimidation from the other inmates. The real drug store killer was later arrested and, following a court appearance, all charges were dropped and the members of Cerebral Bore were eventually released.

Motley Crue Singer Said 90s Bands Disappeared Because They Were Depressing |
"What's incredible with these crowds," says Neil, "it's not just the people that grew up with us, obviously, or there would be a crowd of 40, 45 and 50 year-olds out there. But it's their kids, 12-year-olds with 'Shout at the Devil' shirts on, and parents bringing their kids to their first concert at 5, 6, 7 years old. Also, the different types of people that are our fans you have attorneys standing next to bikers, and everything in between."
Given Crue's status as the elder statesmen of hard rock, what are Vince's thoughts on the next generation of up and coming rockers? "I'm the wrong guy to ask that," he says. "I don't really listen, I don't know anything about new music or new bands that are out there. When I listen to music, I listen to stuff I grew up with. Hopefully, there will be a band that breaks through with the rock 'n' roll thing, but there just doesn't seem to be one. Most bands forget that this is entertainment, and you've got to put a show on. Most of these bands are content to wear jeans and a t-shirt, and just stand there and play their music. Which, is kind of missing the point."
"That's why all those '90s bands disappeared," adds Neil. "They were f***ing depressing people."

The Day Bryan Adams Was On Top |
But there's more to the story than meets the eye. This barnstorming Adams hit almost didn't happen because the movie bosses neither liked the song nor wanted it in the film. Early in 1991, Bryan Adams was working on songs for a new album and co-writing with producer and hit-writer Mutt Lange. Composer Michael Kamen needed a song for the Robin Hood movie and gave Adams a melody. The next part, according to Adams, was easy.
"Writing 'Everything I Do' with Mutt took about 45 minutes and it was a moment that I've only felt a few times it's the moment when you know it's a good song, you don't know if it's a hit, you just know it's good," he told SongwriterUniverse.com. "The track originally started from a long piece of orchestration written by film composer Michael Kamen (who I went on to write many more songs with) and we narrowed the theme down to the little piano intro at the beginning, and then we started writing a top line to it."

Singled Out: Annie Automatic's Burn This Prison |
"Burn This Prison" started as a fun little groove we put together, and it just hit. We recorded most of it at Conway Studios here in Hollywood, and all the vocals I did in our private space in Downtown, Ladybug Sound.
I wrote about a fictional, figurative story - an innocent man is doing 10 years of time, for a crime he didn't commit. He tells the listener what it's like to spend "Day In and Day Out" in a cell block, and goes on to tell us that he's had it - he's planning his escape.
In his last torturous attempt for his own Justice, he's going to set fire to the prison and break free, so he can get back home to the girl he loves.
While it's a fictional story, I think we all can relate to being locked into a prison, whether it's a prison of society and it's ideals, or one of our own fear an insecurities, and I'd say it's time we Break Free.
"Burn This Prison" is now available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon and Napster. The album, Don't Look Down, will be released on August 23, 2011.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album
