Bret Michaels Cruise Sinks
Fans of Bret Michaels will no longer be able to worship their rock god on the high seas in November ... because the singer's "Super Cruise" has officially been CANCELED!

The cruise was billed as a 4-day round-trip voyage out of Miami -- and Michaels promised to be "out and about" with the fans ... signing autographs, mingling and even guest bartending. But Tuesday, fans received an official cancellation notice from the cruise company citing "lack of participation."

Bret blames the whole thing on a "less-than-reputable promoter" -- who "feels he can take advantage of both artists and fans." Michaels -- who is currently touring with Poison and Motley Crue -- explains, "I want to reassure everyone that I have went out of my way to try and make this the best fan cruise on the high seas ... Know that I am working hard to right this wrong." more on this story

Jimmy Page Launches His New Website With Special Features
(Gibson) Jimmy Page's first official website, JimmyPage.com launched yesterday. "I think this is the ideal vehicle to present my past, present and future work," the Led Zeppelin legend said in a press release.

The guitar god was responsible for the website's conception which includes the daily "On This Day" feature. Each day, an event from Page's career will be highlighted through a multimedia presentation of video, audio, rare images, unreleased material and more. Each entry will be accompanied by a "personal anecdote" from Page, too. Yet, each entry will be available for only 24 hours. A press statement guarantees that there will be no archive and once an item is gone, it's gone from the site for good.

Eventually the website also will include an overview of Page's recorded work (with notes from the man himself) and an online store selling rare and exclusive pieces. "I've had the domain name for a number of years," Page said. "I've just been sitting on it and a number of people had made approaches about setting something up and it got to a point that it felt it was the right time to put the website together."

The Black Keys Channel The Clash and The Cramps On New Album
(Gibson) Dan Auerbach, singer/guitarist for The Black Keys, says that fans should expect a significant change on the band's forthcoming follow-up to 2010's Brothers.

So what's the between last year's Grammy-winning LP and the as-yet-untitled new album? Speed. "It's the fastest we've ever played," Auerbach told Spin magazine. "The new album doesn't sound like Brothers. It doesn't have that open soul feel to it. It's way more driving and the tempos are really fast."

The guitarist said the Keys (who also include drummer Patrick Carney) were inspired by The Clash, The Cramps and old-time rockabilly on the new album. They've been working on the material at Auerbach's Nashville studio with producer Danger Mouse (a.k.a. Brian Burton), who has worked on the last two Black Keys records. "He understands all the different kinds of music we're into," Auerbach said about Burton. "He's got really great ideas about melody and song structure. For him it's all about the song." more on this story

Martin Scorsese's George Harrison Documentary Coming This Fall
(Gibson) The new George Harrison documentary, Living in the Material World, will premiere on HBO this fall, according to a post on the late Beatle's official website. The Martin Scorsese-directed film will air in two parts on October 5 and 6. Living in the Material World will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the U.K. on October 10. There's no word yet on an American DVD/Blu-ray release date.

The film, which the Oscar-winning filmmaker worked on with George's widow, Olivia, features rare and unreleased footage, along with interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Phil Spector, Yoko Ono, George Martin and Tom Petty.

Scorsese talked about Harrison's effect on him in a statement: "I will never forget the first time I heard All Things Must Pass, the overwhelming feeling of taking in all that glorious music for the first time. It was like walking into a cathedral. George was making spiritually awake music we all heard and felt it and I think that was the reason that he came to occupy a very special place in our lives.

"So when I was offered the chance to make this picture, I jumped at it. Spending time with Olivia, interviewing so many of George's closest friends, reviewing all that footage, some of it never seen before, and listening to all of that magnificent music it was a joy, and an experience I'll always treasure." more on this story

Shinedown Hitting The Studio, Not The Road
(RockAAA) Shinedown frontman Brent Smith has relayed information on the bands new album via a series of tweets. Due to the limited amount of text available in each tweet, Smith's comment spanned seven separate updates and read:

"When is Shinedown going to be touring again, and also when is the new album going to be released, so I am hear (sic) to tell you we are entering the studio on August 15 to start recording the new album

"We never put time limits on the writing of songs nor the recording of them because we are quite frankly perfectionist and it takes time. With that being said, we have decided to not book any shows for the remainder of the year to concentrate all our attention on the making of the new record.

"Our goal is to be touring again by late February of next year 2012. We will most likely start in the U.K. and Europe and work our way back to the States, and other wonderful countries will follow

"Again, none of this aside from the start date for recording is set in stone, but I hope this sheds some light on the situation no pun intended." more on this story

The Day Why Do Fools Fall in Love Went To The Top
(Gibson) On this day in 1956, Frankie Lymon became the youngest artist to score a no. 1 hit in Britain. Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers topped the charts with "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" although that wasn't the original name of the song. In fact, less than a year earlier, the vocal group wasn't called The Teenagers and Frankie wasn't even the lead singer.

Lymon grew up in a poor family in Harlem, New York. He began singing at an early age likely inspired by his truck driver father, who spent his free time singing with the gospel group the Harlemaires. Frankie and his brothers were members of the Harlemaire Juniors. In order to help support his family, he began working as a grocery boy at age 10, although he soon got into less legitimate forms of work including hustling prostitutes. Reportedly, by age 12, he was having relationships with women twice his age.

Around that same time, Frankie saw a doo-wop group named the Coupe De Villes at a talent show. He became friends with the lead singer, Herman Santiago, and quickly worked his way into the group which was then going by both The Ermines and The Premieres. more on this story

Singled Out: Carolina Liar's Drown
Today Carolina Liar vocalist/guitarist Chad Wolf tells us about their new single "Drown," which is current out and comes from their forthcoming new album "Wild Blessed Freedom". Here is the story:

"'Drown' is a song about coming to terms with the decision to start a new life -- just jump in headfirst and be set free. In a lot of ways, it's about where the band is now. We've parted ways with our label and are putting this new record out on our own. Like any new adventure, it's something that's both daunting and exciting, but luckily we live in an age when artists no longer need the major label machine to heard. So we're looking forward to this new journey. The album title 'Wild Blessed Freedom' also ties in to that theme.

This is our second album with producer Max Martin and once again, it was an amazing experience. He has an incredible ear and an uncanny ability to bring out stuff that you don't realize you have inside. We ended up with a bigger-sounding album and music that really lends itself to a live experience. We wanted to write songs that can get the audience up and moving and excited. And we had a great time making it.

It's funny, we spent 6 months recording in Sweden and then 6 months in LA. But there was a record snowfall while we were working in Sweden. It was just unbelievably cold and I was staying in a basement apartment and the snow was stacked so high, I couldn't see outside the window. And yet we wound up recording the poppiest moments of the record there. I think subconsciously we were just trying to create our own joy to escape from that miserable weather.

There was a bar across the street from the studio and every night we'd go there for a break. The first time we went, we noticed shelves of bottles with stuff we'd never heard of before, so we agreed that with each visit, we'd all have to take a shot of something none of us had ever tried before. It was fun, but I must admit, there were a few times when we returned to the studio and were too hammered to keep working."

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
