Chickenfoot Vs Van Halen? |
"Yeah, I'm curious to see what they come out with, but there's no type of competitive type thing," the bassist tells Ultimate Classic Rock. "It's funny, I go online, and see what the fans are saying, you know, 'Oh my God, it's gonna be Van Halen against Chickenfoot this year, both things coming out, and what's going to be better?' and blah blah blah. If they out put out a great album, that's great. I just know that ours is great, and I'm really proud of it."
Anthony was unceremoniously dumped as VH bassist for reasons, he believes, have nothing to do with music. "Some Van Halen fans say I left the band to hook up with Sammy, but I never said, 'I quit'," Michael told Mojo last year. "There was nothing going on in the Van Halen camp, but Eddie kinda backed me up against a wall. . . Eddie felt that I was a traitor. I helped hook Sammy back up with them for the 2004 reunion tour, but Eddie didn't want me to be a part of that originally, so I took a big pay cut. I'm not crying, I didn't need the money. I did that because I wanted to play for the fans. I signed away any legal rights I had with the name, the trademark or whatever. I did it because if that was the last time Van Halen would ever be on stage, I wanted to be part of it."

K.K. Downing Chose Golf Over Judas Priest? |
Wolverhampton's Express and Star caught up with bassist and founding member Ian Hill to discuss the state of the metal mega-group, including the is-this-or-isn't-this-a-farewell status of the Epitaph tour. Regarding Downing's departure from the band, Hill admitted he was shocked when it happened. Part of the reasoning behind the decision, he reckoned, was due to the guitarist's newly built golf course in Shropshire, England.
"It came as bombshell to all of us," he said. "I think Ken had just had enough. He'd got a lot on his plate with his golf course and I think he couldn't spend the time away. This tour's going to beby the time it's wrapped upthe best part of two years. It's a long, long time to be away from things and I just think Ken couldn't handle the time away.
"I'll always be a friend of Ken's and I'm sure he'll always be a friend of mine. Still waters run deep and we've been together as colleagues and friends since we were about five years old. We went through school and everything together."

Danzig To Reunite With Samhain and Misfits' Doyle at Riot Fest |
"Everyone in music has a band or a musician that changed them. For me, it is Glenn Danzig. I am in music because of Danzig, Samhain and The Misfits. I remember being a 10-year-old when my friend handed me Danzig, and it blew me away. It was differentit was the first album for me, now looking back, where form matched content. Soon after, I found this entire wealth of music he wrote before 1988 and I became an even bigger fan. Musically, it opened my world to punk, metal and hardcore," said Michael Petryshyn, founder of Riot Fest.
"To have Glenn perform his solo works, to go on stage with Samhain for a set and, lastly, to play Misfits songs with Doyle will always be the one show I remember."

Ellefson Says Time Was Perfect For Megadeth Reunion |
Ellefson recently talked with Lithium Magazine about the reunion. "Yeah, it was a good time to come back," the bassist said. "There were discussions we'd been having for a while on our side, and it all just lined right up for us 2010 really was a monumental year, not just for Megadeth, but for the entire genre. For us to be able to do the Rust in Peace tour was amazing. We'd never done a themed album tour like that before, so to do one of those and be able to film that for the Rust in Peace live DVD, and, of course, then rolling right into the Big Four shows and live DVD with that, as well. It was really just a real true homecoming on all fronts for all of us."
For the reunion to work, Ellefson said that he had to leave the past behind. "I think on my side of it, I mentally tried to not go back to where the baggage was," Ellefson admitted. "I mean, you can't change anything from the past. All you can do is hopefully learn from it and you move forward. I think that to not have learned from your past is probably the worst mistake you could ever make in your life, because none of us are perfect. And certainly in rock and roll bands, you are all very close to each other because of the creative aspect of making music. Then there is the business side of it. The time you spend in the yellow submarine and the iron lungthe airplanes and tour buses and backstagesit's those close confines where you seem to sacrifice a little bit of your personal space for the betterment of the group.

New Soundgarden Album 80 Percent Done |
"We're going to record a couple of more songs in August when we get back from tour and then hopefully we can mix it up and put it out," he said, according to UltimateClassicRock.com.
Cameron is currently bouncing between Soundgarden, who reunited last year, and Pearl Jam, who he's been with since 1998. When it was suggested that the two grunge bands could team up for a future tour, with a possible Temple of the Dog encore, Cameron didn't seem so sure. "I might die if we do that," he said. "If I was 25, I'd say, 'Yeah, let's do this.' But the energy it takes to play a Soundgarden show and a Pearl Jam show on the same night, I think I need to keep those separate for now."

Cheap Trick and Frank Zappa Among Top 50 American Rock Bands of All Time |
49. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention: Frank Zappa was undeniably a creative genius, and part of this genius was expressed in his ability to surround himself with unique musicians. The original Mothers of Invention encapsulated the dirtier side of the '60s, yet were equally capable of off-key darkness ("Who are the Brain Police") and note-perfect pop ("You Didn't Try to Call Me"). Frank eventually found more musically able Mothers, but the original lineup had an almost naive charm that couldn't be replaced. Peter Hodgson
42. Cheap Trick: Although they first made it big in Japan, these preeminent purveyors of power pop are a uniquely American force. Fans have been surrendering to Cheap Trick's sizzling brand of super-melodic rock for more than 30 years. Why? Because few songwriters exist that are as strange, clever and enthralling as Rick Nielsen, few groups can claim a "Man of 1,000 Voices" like Robin Zander and no band ever! has worked as hard on stage to be so consistently entertaining. Bryan Wawzenek

The World According to Pete Townshend |
On writing for The Who, as told to Performing Songwriter in 2002: "I always wrote toward the strengths of the band. On 'My Generation,' I made the demo with a six-string bass and played a solo because I knew that would suit John. I put in a stutter because Roger and I were both huge fans of John Lee Hooker and Johnny Cash, and both of them occasionally stuttered. When I started to employ drums on my demos, I tried not to overplay, but I certainly would have played like Keith sometimes if I could."
On his initial impression of Hendrix, as told in the documentary, The History of Rock and Roll, in 1995: "He did things which were magical. I don't think he knew he was doing them or that he could do them, but he'd do things with his body that were very, very beautiful to look at, yet accompanied by these incredibly wild noises. It was some kind of strange alchemy. He demonstrated that there was actually such a thing as physical poetry in rock, something that was very close to ballet."

Singled Out: Army of the Universe's LoveDead |
Last year I was strumming my guitar, with the desire to write some lyrics about something new in my perspective. In fact many of my songs are really introspective, still personal, most of the times. It's like I'm used to put myself as the center of my dreams during the creative process.
Egoticism? Maybe so. But I never totally escape from my reality.
This time I wanted a different approach. I wanted to create a weird character. I needed to talk about something disturbing, still with some ironic reference with my perspective.
That's the genesis of LoveDead, our first single from the self named LoveDead EP. Of course I didn't sit and thought about "Ok-this-will-be-the-single". At least at first time. It was some kind of alchemy between me and Trebla, The first of many we usually have.
I remember He was in Japan, so I called him not caring about the time zone. I'm sorry I was in "fury-mode" so I really don't cared.
So it's like "Trebla please give me some stuff, I'm putting down a thing about a monster, please NOW!"
And he was like "Ok Lord give me five minutes, I'll do something for you."
"Ok thanks..." He had already turned off the phone.
Next things I've done in the next five minutes:
Took a coffee.
Watched some porno.
Eat my fingers.
Push ups.
Ok, incoming mail signal. Lets see!
It was a single loop. The one you can hear in the beginning of the song.
It was a blast to me. I was totally amazed. I had this twisted vision of a serial killer perspective speaking in first person.
Kinda fifteen minutes after the lyrics and the melody of LoveDead were born.
The verses are mainly about the imagery of the man-monster while the chorus is a come back to my personal experience and a more ironic point of view.
I can't be completely serious about myself, imagine if talking about a serial killer!
Then Chris Vrenna (former NIN, and keyboards player / drummer for Manson) was involved into Army of the Universe and one of the first things he said when he first listened to this song was that he immediately felt in love with it and he didn't heard anything like this since Nine Inch Nails. Which made us really proud!
That's why Chris wanted to join us not only co-producing the whole album, but also playing drums at live shows, starting with the last European performances.
We'll always be thankful to his brilliant cleverness and friendship.
Many asked me what's in my mind when I say "I drink too much to cover my RED". I think there are different ways to interpret this. It can be in a Baudelairian point of view, or in a more sarcastic and less poetic, but still dramatic and "Futuristic" intent.
I think the most ironic thing of it all it's that I wanted to talk about someone else from me, but I finished to put a little bit of me as always. I'm reckless!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album
