Sammy Hagar Vs Eddie Van Halen
(Rock News Desk) Sammy Hagar's career with Van Halen started out so well the band nearly changed their name to "Van Hagar" but by the end of his time with them he was desperately trying to wriggle out of his contract.
The singer reveals he tried to quit after 40 shows of their disastrous 2004 reunion tour, during which guitarist Eddie Van Halen regularly turned in substandard performances. And he says the reason he's telling all in his book Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock is to explain to the band's fans why he did what he did.

"Eddie's always made me out to be the bad guy. He's always had the upper hand when it comes to the press, and he could tell the story and frame it the way he wanted," Hagar tells MusicRadar. "I thought the story needs to be told so the fans know why everything's happened the way it has. I didn't like what was going on at the time. I didn't like the way Michael Anthony was treated and the way they tried to treat me. Eddie and Alex Van Halen really made the experience unpleasant.

"After 40 shows I tried to quit that's how bad it was. But they and their management had me sewn in and I was stuck. It was hell." He's not done.

Slipknot's Future Uncertain
(Rock AAA) In an extensive interview on Undercover, Corey Taylor gave some indications that he was uncertain about his future with Slipknot. Acknowledging the commitment to the European Sonisphere shows scheduled for the band he was candid about how he feels about resuming without bassist Paul Gray who passed away last year.

"With Slipknot, there is definitely a huge piece missing now. Paul was almost the lynchpin that held everything together. There are other things in the band affecting things right now. It's individual issues and that's all I'll say about it right now"

"Obviously we'll do these shows in the summer at Sonisphere. Dipping our toes in the water to see what happens. I lost my brother last year. People need to understand that and respect it. If I'm cautious it's because I respect him and his memory. I'm tentative, I'm hoping it goes well, but I'm pragmatic." more on this story

The Darkness To Reunite?
(Gibson) It appears that the long-rumored reunion of The Darkness is getting into swing with the launch of a website, a Facebook page and a rapidly-circulating fan-made trailer video on YouTube.

The website, TheActualDarkness.com, launched recently with the semi-cryptic message "The Darkness >> As Promised" across the top of the site, along with a link to the band's Facebook page, an e-mail subscription field and a button to post about the site on Twitter.

The site's meta data lists the names of band members Justin Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, Ed Graham and Frankie Poullain (as opposed to his 2005 replacement Richie Edwards) as keywords. Meanwhile a fan-made trailer for the reunion is being passed around online by excited fans (and mistaken for an official video by more than a few online forumites). more on this story

Singled Out: Dinosaur Bones' Royalty
Today Ben Fox from Dinosaur Bones tells us about "Royalty" from their brand new full length album "My Divider," which hit stores today. Here is the story:

"Royalty" was one of the first songs I wrote for Dinosaur Bones. My previous band had broken up, I was living in a new city where I didn't know a lot of people, and I was sort of in limbo writing songs for a band that didn't exist yet. At the same time it was liberating, knowing that I could start from scratch stylistically and really go in any direction.

"Royalty" was a part of that initial crop of songs, and one of the only ones that made it into our setlist once the band was formed. Musically, it's essentially built around the pulsing bass line that sort of propels the song. The structure of the song is pretty conventional, but I like that its the bass that serves as the hook, particularly in the verses where the guitars really just serve as a percussive element.

When I wrote this song I was between bands, but had made up my mind to rebuild and have a proper go of it. The lyrics circle around some of the trappings of playing in a band, having to appease or impress industry people you'd rather ignore, being away from your friends and loved ones for long stretches of time. Because of that, "Royalty" definitely has a pretty cynical tone to it. I think when I was writing this song I was probably subconsciously warning myself about what I was getting myself back into. I guess I'm a bad listener.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
