Former Iron Maiden Singer Paul Di'Anno Jailed |
He'll spend at least four and a half months behind bars before being eligible for conditional bail.
Di'Anno, 52, real name Paul Andrews, was last month found guilty of claiming money in a total of eight offences committed between 2002 and 2008, and told at the time to expect a custodial sentence. He was found out when investigators saw video clips of him leaping around during stage shows, at a time when he'd said nerve damage meant he couldn't work.

Slipknot Reunite With Original Member |
"For their upcoming shows in 2011, Slipknot has asked Donnie Steele to fill in for Paul Gray on bass. Donnie, as some may recall, was the original guitar player in Slipknot and had actually reconnected with Paul in recent years. Said the band on their decision,
"Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can't think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning.

There Is No Velvet Revolver Singer |
On Velvet Revolver and the search for a new singer: "There is no status. I was just in the U.K., so I'm painfully aware of Corey Taylor I was asked about one thousand times about it [Slipknot's singer was recently rumored to have tried out]. There is no status Slash has been on tour, I'm starting a tour. We played with some really good guys, and I do think Corey Taylor is probably the brightest dude that has been in front of a mic for a long time. But saying all that, no, there is no Velvet Revolver singer."
On what it would take for the original Guns N' Roses lineup to play together again: "We'd need seven gilded doves. I have no answer for that. I've got to come up with a good one though. We'd need a secret clubhouse...on an island."

Singled Out: Still Rain (Danzig, Sevendust, Seether) |
The Still Rain song, "Pain" was a concept we all had a hand in. Remember, we basically lived in a van while touring nonstop, so we talked a lot. Usually the conversations were about new song ideas. We were young and the notion of different people's fetishes was still pretty shocking to us. We actually marveled at the idea that some folks actually enjoy a little pain with their pleasure.
We envisioned someone in a confession booth confessing he has a few guilty pleasures to a priest and wondering if this made him a horrible person. We all participated in the concept, but the lyrics are Donnie's. I believe in the second verse our character is imposing his will onto other uninitiated partners.
We were originally going to base the album cover concept on this song and the character. We thought about photographing a guy looking at himself in a broken mirror and subliminally placing whips, chains, handcuffs etc. in the reflection, as if he was in his personal little dungeon, but we decided it was probably too difficult to execute. We officially canned the idea when we took a look at the Black Flag cover for Damaged. It was nearly exactly what we had in mind.
Musically, the song is intentionally very simple. We were beginning to discover the power of repetition in music and its ability to induce a trance-like sensation to a listener. Simple drums and simple riff, over and over. I remember at the time we were listening to a lot of Misfits and Danzig. All the ?whoa-oh-oh? was clearly inspired by Glenn's vocal style. I think we accomplished what we had in mind for that tune, and it works great as the opener for the album. It worked great live, too. The beat is memorable enough that the crowds would always pipe up when I kicked it off. It's still one of my favorites.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

"I know Mtley Cre made some derogatory statements early on when I mentioned us doing this [tour] together. But I've spoken with Nikki [Sixx] several times on the phone now, and really, the truth of the matter is that rock fans spoke up and said what a great tour this will be, to see those bands with that kind of energy and stage shows. So I want to go out this summer, regardless of what's been said and what's been done... Really, it means nothing to me. What matters is I go out and have fun with my band on our 25th anniversary. Porcupine Tree and Zappa Stars Guest on Todd Grubbs' New Album |
"I am thrilled to have some great guest artists on this CD," Grubb's exclaims excitedly. "I was very happy to get Mike Keneally to do a solo, he is a huge inspiration to me on a number of levels, number one his talent is huge, but even more important, his true passion for creating pure music for art's sake has moved me to do the same. Blues Saraceno also contributes an excellent solo, he has always been one of my favorite players because he has such a cool feel. Last but not least, my friend John Wesley from Porcupine Tree was nice enough to add a great solo and help me finish my CD with a dual jam as it fades out."
.
Todd Grubb's previous CD 'Space, Time and the Electric' garnered rave reviews throughout the wworld, elevating the guitarist to cult status amongst seasoned musicians. Now Todd is back with an album that is sure to thrill and inspire those who listen. "My new CD is a little different than my previous few releases," explains Todd, "although it really may be more of a progression in being truer to myself. I really have gotten to the point where I am creating my music without any consideration of what others might think, or what I think others might think. Don't get me wrong, this is still a crazy guitar CD with tons of varied guitars flying around, but I had a lot of fun with the addition of 'field recordings'; a group of interesting recordings that I have made over the years and then I have built compositions around them or interjected them into preexisting songs. That was definitely the best time I have ever had making a CD and I am excited about continuing in this direction."
Lillian Axe Name Their New Singer |
Steve Blaze, lead guitarist and band founder says "We have spent the last six months searching for and reviewing candidates to the point of driving us crazy." Blaze continues, "Choosing your front man is the most vital task in a band's existence, so we really took our time to make sure that the person we chose fit every category to the best of their abilities. Brian is a complete breath of fresh air. He is an amazing talent, as well as a fireball of enthusiasm, which has really sparked the attitudes of the rest of us."
Jones, vocalist for the bands Guns of Addiction and Full Moon Circus, as well as guitarist for Wind-up Artist, Papercut Massacre, approached Blaze for the job in September. He states, "When I initially approached Steve about the possibility of becoming the new vocalist for Lillian Axe, I honestly didn't know what to think and had a plethora of thoughts running amuck in my head. Having been a lifelong fan of the band and looking to Steve as a mentor for so many years, coupled with the fact that I was being asked to audition for one of my favorite bands, was a bit much to take in. I knew this was what I wanted to do and have been playing now for over 20 years, but I never would have imagined I'd be playing with Lillian Axe. The guys have been amazing and have taken me in quite nicely. I look forward to the many years to come and to the new music that we will be sharing with the fans."

Eric Clapton's Greatest Blues |
But Clapton's greatest performances of blues tunes are a considerably more controversial topic. Gibson takes a look at Clapton's Top Ten blues Recordings. Here is the song that came out on top:
1. "When My Heart Beats Like a Hammer": Clapton's always made it a point to credit his blues heroes, but this song is part of a disc of pure payback 2000's multi-platinum team-up with B.B. King, Riding With the King. And the tune, a King classic, packs the most punch on the album, with both kingpins trading lines and licks with the kind of focus that made them giants. For Clapton, the joy of working with King practically comes searing through the tracks.

The Loog, with its three strings, makes it easy for them to tune, play and listen to what they're playing." Atijas says. "You can play any song on a three-string. A regular chord on a standard six-string is usually comprised of no more than three notes so the Loog allows you to play real chords and virtually any song.
