Megadeth Song Used in Terror Threat
A classic song by Megadeth was used in a mass murder terror threat via an internet radio station. A Wisconsin man, who is currently in jail, is under investigation and facing possible charges of unlawful use of computerized communication and disorderly conduct, according the Vancouver Sun.

The paper reports that Appleton, Wisconsin police and the FBI investigated and arrested David J. Lefever, 44, after he visited the chatroom for The MeltDown Show on HardRockRadioLive and typed, "Watch_The_National_new_tomorrow_I_am_going_to_go_a_shooting_spree_in_Appleton_WI."

He then requested that Megadeth's "Killing is my business . . . and business is good," be played by the show's hosts because the song would be, "good music to go postal & kill a bunce of people to."

The hosts of the show, Trevor Fenton and Pat Ryan, played the request to keep the poster online while they contacted authorities. "We had to take that threat seriously, we couldn't ignore him. That was something we just couldn't ignore and not report," said Ryan according to the Vancouver Sun. "It could have been a prank. But if he was serious and something happened, I wouldn't have been able to live with myself."

Another Hard Rocker's Home Destroyed By Hurricane Irene
(Rock News Desk) Doro Pesch's New York house was severely damaged by Hurricane Irene, the singer has revealed. She was in Germany during the violent storm which rocked the US east coast last weekend, and returned home earlier this week to find the lower level of her building in ruins.

Pesch tells The Gauntlet: "I saw the pictures of Irene when I visited my mother in Germany. When a red rubber raft appeared canoeing through a road on Long Island I already assumed the worst.

"The damage is disastrous the whole ground floor was flooded. It stinks. Electricity failed and everything's wrecked inside the house, from the TV to the fridge to the furniture. Everything's grime-stained, defective, unusable." more on this story

Sevendust Star Retracts Farewell Tweet
Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose posted a message on Twitter last week that has fans worried that the band is planning to say farewell, but Rose is now trying to reassure fans that isn't the case.

It all started with this tweet on August 27th: "So guys, the whole farewell thing is being 'talked' about. We love each other; there's no issue with us. we just miss our families. no decision yet."

Yesterday he issued a new tweet to reassure fans that the band will have at lease one more album. He wrote: "We're not goin away. Not for years. Were 4 sure doin another record n 2 years of touring. We knew the rumors would go nuts."

Cliff Burton Would Approve of Metallica Teaming Up With Lou Reed
Rock biographer Mick Wall argues in his debut column at RockAAA that the late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton would approve of his band teaming up with Lou Reed. Wall writes:

Cliff Burton, who has now been dead longer than he lived, would not be turning in his grave at the thought of Metallica working with Lou Reed. Actually, it was Cliff who first introduced the rest of them to the music of Reed via his love of the Velvet Underground. This was in the days when Cliff was also introducing them to albums by Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, The Police and Stanley Clarke.

The Velvets were, and remain, one of the most out-there, truly subversive rock groups that ever existed. Check out their 17-minute death-trip Sister Ray and tell me they didn't take rock music beyond its boundaries. This at a time, it should be born in mind, when James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich were still in short-trousers. Read's Mick's full column here

Gene Simmons Sends Out Sarcastic Wedding Invitation
KISS founder Gene Simmons, the man who has spent his life saying he would never get married, will marry his longtime girlfriend and mother of his children, Shannon Tweed, next month.

We learned earlier this week from leading metal news outlet BW&BK that Simmons will marry Tweed on October 1st. Today TMZ has this about the invitations: They've already sent out invitations -- complete with a sarcastic wedding announcement from their kids.

"After 28 years of loose strings, our parents have finally decided to tie the knot," The announcement says. "Our mother will share our horrendous hyphenate of a last name and our father's life ... well, it doesn't change that much."

It continues on a heartfelt note -- saying, "But we will be united as a family in spirit and in title forever." Check out the invitation for the humorous dress code

Judas Priest Plan New Album Next Year
(RockAAA) Despite being on the road for the band's farewell world tour, Judas Priest will have a new album ready in 2012, according to lead throat Rob Halford.

In a new interview with Billboard.com, Halford says that he and guitarist Glenn Tipton "began writing new music early on this year, before we went out on the road. We have about 12 or 14 tracks completely mapped out, four of which have been recorded and mixed and are ready to go so the good news is that there will be a brand new Priest record next year."

Halford adds that the group is leaving some room for new guitarist Richie Faulkner, who replaced the retired K.K. Downing for the current Epitaph World Tour, "to join in and make contributions as well." But he's confident that won't change the overall tenor of the album. more on this story

A Happy Ending for Bowie's Major Tom?
(Rock News Desk) My mum and dad knew it was coming, and they were waiting. They sat in the front room with their parental concern while I lay in bed with the last pages of Charlotte's Web in front of me not suspecting what was about to happen to my young world.

Charlotte died. I howled. Mum and dad were there for me. And I've never forgotten that moment. If there's any justice in this older world, a generation of kids will read Andrew Kolb's picture book based on David Bowie's classic track Space Oddity and never forget the moment they see Major Tom sitting in his dying spacecraft realising he'll never see his wife again.

Visual communicator Kolb accepts it's "not the cheeriest of narratives" for a children's book, although he loves the comparison with Charlotte's Web. "While it's always said that kids grow up fast, I also think we try not to let them grow up," says Kolb, who released Space Oddity as a free download on his website, although sadly he's withdrawn it over copyright doubts. more on this story

Gary Moore's Final Performance Being Released on CD and DVD/Blu-Ray
(Kayos) Gary Moore last performance has been captured for Live At Montreux 2010 which will be release on September 20th by Eagle Rock.

Live At Montreux 2010 strikingly shows a major return-to-rock for the musician who spent years exploring the blues. In fact, in the last days of his life, Moore, who died on February 6 of this year, was working on a new rock album.

What makes this release so compelling is the inclusion of three never-before-released gems, "Days Of Heroes," "Where Are You Now" and "Oh Wild One," that he previewed for the Montreux audience and had fully intended to put on the album he was writing and recording at the time. The rest of the set is heavy on the 1980s rock he pioneered solo, as well as his late 60s/70s work with Phil Lynott in Thin Lizzy and Skid Row. And, of course, some blues.

No Pressure For Mastodon
(RockAAA) Mastodon's Troy Sanders says there was no pressure to 'outdo' themselves in making new album, 'The Hunter' after the critical acclaim and commercial success of 'Crack the Skye'

Speaking to Metal Radio, the bassist said that the band retains 100% creative control over their work and that their song writing process ensures positive and fresh ideas to emerge.

"We've always tried to be very passionate about what we create. We write music from the heart, and it comes out very authentically from the four of us," He said. "So when we create music and the four of us are ultimately very happy with it, we kind of just go for it. And after months of work, it turned out to be a collection of songs that we all loved within the band. So we didn't really feel any pressure, like: "We've got to outdo ourselves, it's got to be better than Crack The Skye", or anything along those lines. more on this story

Night In Gales Streaming New Song Online
Fans can now get their first taste of Night In Gales first new album in a decade, 'Five Scars,' as the band are streaming the first track from the effort on Lifeforce Records' Facebook page and only ask that you "like" it to listen.

"We're pretty much looking forward to the release of 'Five Scars' and whatever may come with that for Night In Gales - but for the moment, listen to 'This Neon Grave' and enjoy a fresh breeze of classic melodic death metal!" - comments singer Bjoern Goosses

'This Neon Grave' is a little story about a bunch of sociopathic misfits, who rush through this brave new world of sensory overload. All in the name of success, fame, money and other modern day icons, this bunch of poor outcasts is doomed to lose their way within this world. So all these neon, bleeping and blinking temptations and fake promises and are finally nothing but a neon grave to them. Apart from that - 'This Neon Grave' is simply a great song that captures what Night In Gales 2011 is all about!

God Seed's Wacken Black Mass Coming to CD and DVD

The Wacken performance was a reconstruction of the controversial Black Mass show from Krakow in 2004 filmed in a TV studio in Krakw, Poland.

The concert featured sheep heads on stakes, "crucified" nude models, satanic symbols, and eighty liters of sheep's blood. The band came under fire for violating Polish anti-blasphemy laws as well as Polish animal rights laws, resulting in a police investigation with allegations of religious offence and cruelty to animals. The band went free of all charges and at Wacken 2008 they recreated this show in all its glory. more on this story

Theory of a Deadman Singled Out Week: Hate My Life
Theory of a Deadman kicked off the Carnival of Madness Tour earlier this month. To celebrate Tyler tells us a little bit about some of his favorite Theory of a Deadman songs. Today he tells us about "Hate My Life" from their last album, "Scars & Souvenirs":

I had a conversation with someone from my record label about new songs for our Scars and Souvenirs record and I was in a bit of a slump and not having a great day. I hung up the phone and yelled "I f**king hate my life!" and so it began. Me and my wife at the time went for a walk to cool me down and we came up with the whole concept and lyrics by the time we returned back to the hotel. I sat down and tracked a rough demo of "hate my life" with an extra verse to boot. "I hate how everyone stares when I walk into town, don't they know I've f**king had enough and I'm ready to throw down." It was trimmed down in the final version and lost forever. This is the first time anyone has heard the extra verse. Sad to cut lyrics but you always do what's right for the song. We wanted to write a song that everyone could relate to: the working class, underpaid, overworked and the daily grind. Pretty much how a song can change your day from bad to good like a stiff cup of coffee.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
