Iron Maiden To The Rescue
(hennemusic) Iron Maiden cancelled two shows in Tokyo back in March due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami damage, and the chaos that followed.

The band were flying into Tokyo from Seoul, South Korea following a show there; on approaching Narita Airport in Tokyo, Ed Force One was advised to reroute to Nagoya, as the earthquake/tsunami had just become apparent. The band stayed the night in Nagoya and left the following day.

In an effort to help the battered country at the time, Maiden announced that they would donate the proceeds from sales of the Japanese event shirt available from the band's official shop (i.e. the shirt without tour dates on) to a charity assisting victims of the earthquake. The band did the same with the stock of event shirts in Tokyo, which were due to be sold onsite at the Tokyo venue (i.e. the shirt with tour dates on). Now, the band has announced the results of their campaign. "The terrific support from our fans has resulted in over 36,000 [approximately $57,000 US] being raised in proceeds from the sales of the Japanese event shirt through the Iron Maiden shop and a retail version of the shirt which was sold in the USA," Maiden announced in a statement. "The band have channeled all their profits and royalties into the fund, which has been donated to the Japanese Red Cross charity."

(Audio Ink Radio) Jack White's Raconteurs have taken nearly three years off from playing shows and penning music, and now the alternative rockers have a few dates lined up for September, including one at MI Fest in Michigan this weekend.

But fans who think this is a sign White and the gentlemen are permanently back together should think again.

Raconteurs drummer Patrick Keeler says that while he's stoked for the rekindling, he don't think this means the guys are back together, and he doesn't expect to book more shows at the moment. See what he has to say here

A New Chapter for Sammy Hagar
(hennemusic) There's some new Sammy Hagar material coming your way. Hagar has completed another chapter for "Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock," which will be included in the paperback edition of the Red Rocker's New York Times best seller.

"I just finished another chapter for it, because it's coming out in paperback and I didn't wanna just release the same book again," Hagar told the American Rock Scene. "And since that book came out and it went No. 1, it did a lot it really changed things within me and with people around me. And some of my closer friends kind of had a weird response to the book and some people that I really didn't know people that were almost, like I don't wanna say 'enemies,' but people in the industry that maybe didn't respect me or give me any love or the time of day over the years came in and said, 'Wow, I had no idea. Man, I have a whole different opinion of you.' So I wrote a new chapter about that; I just did it yesterday and it will be in the paperback [version of the book]."

"[It's] just about how being a rock star my whole life and then having a No. 1-selling book had a profound influence on my stature, as a human on this planet," continues Sammy. more on this story

Beatles Refused To Play Segregated Concert
(Gibson) A U.S. Beatles contract, up for auction this month, shows that the band were very aware of civil rights issues in '60s America.

According to the Guardian newspaper, in documents regarding a concert at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California, in 1965, The Beatles stated that they will not play in front of a "segregated audience." They also demanded "no less than 150 uniformed police officers for protection" and a "special drumming platform for Ringo [Starr]."

The band's rider also demands that their trailer has "electricity and water" and that "all dressing rooms for The Beatles, the purchaser must provide four cots, mirrors, an ice cooler, portable TV set and clean towels." more on this story

Former AC/DC Bandmate Remembers Bon Scott
Bazillion Points sent over another excerpt from former AC/DC bassist Mark Evan's upcoming book "Dirty Deeds: My Life Inside/Outside AC/DC," which is set to be released in November. Today's except deals the late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott.

In the book, Evans carefully illuminates at length the little-known real-life character of legendary frontman Bon Scott, with whom he shared buses, hotels, and stages for years. "Bon was used to calamity," Evans writes about one of the singer's many scrapes. "Before joining AC/DC he endured a long stay in an Adelaide hospital after a near-fatal motorcycle crash. Bon was always willing to show me the bloodstains on the inside of his black leather bike jacket, courtesy of that smash. It was a favorite jacket of his and showed up in quite a few photos over the early years. It was a funky black leather number; Bon had sewn fake leopard-skin patches on the shoulders. He was handy with a sewing needle, that boy."

"Bon was very big on comics. That's one memory of Bon that comes to me quite regularly: his head buried in a comic book, reading with intent if it was Conan or having a good giggle if he was reading BC. Bon was also an avid letter writer; he was always knocking out postcards or letters to family and friends, keeping them up with news from the front-or should I say, his front. My other strongest memories of Bon are his laugh and his cheeky grin. You know the grin, where you can't help but think he was either up to mischief or had just gotten away with something. That was a hell of a grin." More info on the book here

Mike Portnoy's Stone Sour Gig A One-Off
A follow-up to yesterday's story. Roadrunner sent over word that Mike Portnoy will be joining Stone Sour for a one-off appearance at the 'Rock In Rio' Festival on September 24. Here is what the label had to say:

The band's regular drummer, Roy Mayorga, is currently home and anxiously awaiting the birth of his first daughter -- due the very same day as Stone Sour's Rio show. Roy personally asked his friend Mike Portnoy to fill in for what is sure to be a special 'once in a lifetime' event for the fans in attendance. Said Portnoy: "It's my honor and pleasure to be able to help out my good friends in Stone Sour and my brother Roy in their time of need. It's also an unexpected treat for me to get another visit with some of the greatest fans in the world down in Brazil."

Frontman Corey Taylor added: "We've been waiting a long time for the opportunity to come to South America. This year's Rock in Rio should be fantastic. With Roy expecting his first child, we'll charge on without him, but having Mike fill in for this one show will be great. We can't wait to take the stage and lay it down the only way Stone Sour knows how: full on and in your face!"

Plans are afoot for a special EP/DVD release from Stone Sour this Winter, along with a special MP3 giveaway via Stone Sour's Facebook page.

Singled Out: Girl On Fire's Revenge
Today Austin Held from Girl On Fire tells us about the title track from their brand new five track EP, Revenge, which was produced by Aiden/William Control's WiL Francis. Here is the story:

The birth place of our song, "Revenge" was at 5 in the morning, sitting in the lobby of William Control's, Sleepy Hollow Studios with a beer in my left hand, a pen in my right and a cigarette in my mouth, intimidated by a blank page in front of me. I was staring straight at a classic picture of Johnny Cash, angrily flipping off the photographer.

We had already laid down the drums and bass for the song, and just finished prepping the guitar, amps and mics for the next day of recording. I sat and thought and stared into space, sipping my beer while I think Nick and Harry we're playing a video game. I wasn't too thrilled about the lyrics I had come into the studio with so I decided to scrap the whole thing. I was so frustrated thinking, 'we've got an awesome song with a great groove to it and I can't think of a damn thing to say!'

I was then reminded that I always get this feeling of absolute frustration when I can't think of what to say. This one was going to be tricky. I wanted to pull my brain out and wash it in the dirty dish filled sink to clear my mind. This was a song I was excited for, but angry with at the same time. After sitting and feeling like I wasn't getting anything done, I ended up writing down every thought that came to mind, just as an exorcize. All of the sudden I wrote a line that said, Am I gonna sit and watch, and let you take control? 'A reference to my own anger?' I thought. I then knew what I wanted this song to be about: persevering through every frustrating or upsetting time in my life.

Every time I am in a certain mood or have a lot on my mind, I end up writing everything down. "Revenge" became a song about every song I've ever written. It's about why I write and play music; because it's my outlet and my therapy. My revenge isn't towards anyone or anything. My revenge is my perseverance through all of the hard times I've been through. No matter how big or small they seem in the end, my revenge is my ability to not let those situations defeat me.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
