Billy Corgan Warns That Pitchforks Block Next Kurt Cobain |
He believes the underground scene that nurtured talent like Nirvana and his own band has now become part of the establishment, and as a result it's too easy to fall into creative stagnation in a community that once offered the opposite.
And he singles out online community Pitchfork as an example of his argument. "If you're 20 years old and you aspire to be like me or Kurt Cobain or Courtney Love.... you're not going to make it that way. You won't succeed," Corgan tells the Daily Beast. "Let's say you're the next Kurt Cobain. You will be appropriated on your first album by the Pitchfork community. Your record company will rally round that idea because that's your marketing platform.
"But the minute you're in that world you're frozen."

Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea Releasing Solo EP |
As for what to expect from the set, it's not going to be orthodox. Flea tweeted that the tracks on the EP are made up of "obscure, arty, mostly instrumental music," and that at least one of the songs will have Patti Smith on vocals. The songs on the EP, he explained, were recorded after the Peppers wrapped up their Stadium Arcadium tour back in 2007.
All the profit from the disc's sales will go to charity, and Flea says he'll take "any price you want to pay" to download to the songs. Those willing to pay $75, though, will get the hook-up with an autographed vinyl version packaged with "a piece of a bass string that I have played in concert." The EP's proceeds will benefit the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit music education organization co-founded by Flea.

Iha just posted the video for "To Who Knows Where," the debut single from his first solo release in 14 years, Look to the Sky. Iha says the idea for the video came from watching David Bowie's classic film The Man Who Fell to Earth.
"The general idea was to allude to weird story lines that were never explained," Iha said in a statement. "I come down from another planet, there are men following me, there's a mysterious woman, and I hope to find my way back to my home planet. It's like a lot of '70s movies."

Nominate Songs For The Library of Congress National Recording Registry |
For instance, back in May it was announced that songs like Prince and the Revolution's classic "Purple Rain" and Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" were added to the registry and were selected because there were "aesthetically, culturally or historically important and deserving of permanent housing within the nation's library."
Unlike the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you can have an input about which songs should be reserved in the registry. The Library informed us that "while the Librarian depends on the input of the National Recording Preservation Board for his ultimate selections, the list is also impacted by public nominations. Anyone can send in their suggestions. Those who want to submit via e-mail can send to: [email protected]."

KISS For Tots |
Rockabye Baby! was developed by Lisa Roth, sister to the singer of Van Halen. The series includes collections made from the songs of artists like AC/DC, Metallica, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, The Beatles, and many others.
Here's the KISS album description: "There will never be a better show opener than 'Detroit Rock City'. 'Beth' is the gold standard for power ballads. And 'Rock And Roll All Nite' is the quintessential rock 'n' roll national anthem. Given Rockabye's kid-tested, parent-approved lullaby treatment, these KISS Klassics are as alive as ever just as thrilling when xylophones and bells replace Ace Frehley's Gibson Les Paul and Gene Simmons' demonic snarl. Except come bedtime, junior won't be able to keep partying into the 'nite;' these lullabies will have him counting a veritable KISS Army of sheep."

The musician and movie producer, who's set for a tour with fellow shock-rock veteran Marilyn Manson, says he's seen too many beginners make the same error time and time again.
"I remember when White Zombie got signed to Geffen. That's when all the bands were getting signed to Geffen. There was this one mistake a lot of bands made, and they still make it," Zombie tells Spin. "You're still some unknown band nobody gives two sh*ts about you just happened to be signed to a label.
"Bands suddenly copped an attitude, and suddenly they were egotistical and annoying. They thought they were big shots but they were still nobody.

Motorhead Hit or Miss With Bomber |
The aluminum lighting rig first appeared in 1979 and was the first-ever rig capable of movement. Since then it's made regular appearances above the band, including on their current world tour. But while it's a fan favourite, Motorhead don't always feel the same way about the device.
Lemmy tells Zippo how a 'flight' in the bomber set him on a war footing with a roadie: "I once got in it on the encore at Nottingham Royal Theatre. He lifted it up. I had a curly lead that was stretched straight and it was pulling me out of the plane.
"I thought, 'You bastard if you get me down from here alive I'll f**king kill you.' He lowered my down, but he'd gone. He was out the building before I got on the floor."
