Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose Makes Rare TV Appearance |
The visit was scheduled to promote the upcoming Las Vegas residency by GNR, who will launch their "Appetite For Democracy" show at The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The running theme of Axl's visit was about punctuality, with jokes and comments riffing off the fact that the singer has built a reputation for setting his own schedule for starting concerts.
Kimmel went for the subject right out of the gate. "You're right on time. It's unbelievable," said the host. "You're very punctual."
"It's a miracle," laughed Rose.
The two chatted about the Vegas shows, Axl's jobs outside of music, last weekend's appearance at the 26th Annual Bridge School Benefit Concert with Neil Young, and the GNR frontman even answered some fan-submitted questions via twitter.

"Once that particular project kind of dies down and we complete what we need to do with that, then we're going to start writing songs. We're going to meet up and start throwing ideas together. That should be really, really interesting. I'm really looking forward to that."
Hammett added that the guys have tons of ideas for the new album rattling around in their heads. "What's not going to be so fun is going through all the musical ideas that we have," he said. "I'm not really good at editing myself because I think it's all good. To be more thorough on that, though, I foresee us starting to get together fairly soon, like in the next couple of months. When the band got a call to submit a song for the soundtrack to the upcoming action film G.I. Joe: Retaliation, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Willis, they submitted the instrumental version as Tyler had yet to complete lyrics and add his vocals.
The filmmakers liked what they heard but needed to hear Tyler's vocals before committing. It was just the push the singer needed.

Van Halen's David Lee Roth Explains The Language Of Video |
Entitled "The Language Of Video," Roth speaks about the processes of creating films and music videos, including Van Halen's "Jump" as well as his version of "California Girls."
"'Jump' triggered a whole lot of imitations," explains Roth. "There are two versions of imitation: they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I maintain that a defense attorney invented that in a court of law to convince a jury otherwise. I believe, as Dave Mamet quotes it, that 'imitation is the sincerest form of theivery.' And we got thieved!"

Soundgarden Preview New Song: Bones By Birds |
Now, the Seattle rockers are sharing a preview of the new track, "Bones By Birds." "[The song] is a little dark," says Chris Cornell.
"It was sort of lyrically kind of inspired by being a father and having children and having that stress. You know, that stress about you don't want to see them lose their innocence; in a way that when children lose their innocence and sort of learn about the real world it's never a good thing - it's always because of loss, something bad happens, something they weren't expecting."

Singled Out: Fischer's Flickers |
It often baffles me how some people can stab another behind the back and, at a quick glance, seem to be rewarded for their behavior. I felt like I was experiencing just that when I sat down to write "Souls". I felt as though someone I knew was sabotaging a musical relationship just to reap the benefits of all of the hard work I had put into the project. Rather than pulling myself down to their level and resorting to their antics, I poured the experience into songwriting. Most of the songs I write are the culmination of many different sittings with chords, riffs, lyrics and ideas twisted and turned into different shapes until they come together into a fine-tuned object. Other times, they pour out faster than you can put them on paper. "Souls" is one of those cases. Fueled by the emotions I was experiencing, I picked up my acoustic and in a stream-of-consciousness fashion, the song leapt into life! I took great satisfaction as a self-appointed karma gestapo singing almost directly to the culprit and calling them out on their ill intentions.
In the process of writing these verses, it dawned on me that we all have demons we must wrestle. No one is perfect and I began to think about faults of my own that made me feel the hypocrite as this song came to be. It was the coming to terms with this philosophy that brought on the chorus: "Never tell a soul what you become... truth hurts those we love" I really like the balance in the song between finger-pointing and the questioning of one's self. The bridge was another fun bit as well, as I was envisioning a large, crescendoing buildup and wanted to come up with a run-on sentence that would carry through the entire bridge in one l-o-o-o-n-g line: "Wading through the lies you feed the mouths of babes who nest in wombs of fabricated tales of souls who led the lives we could not lead ourselves." Ha - that's a true mouth full of venom!
It's interesting how time plays tricks on your songwriting though. It happens to me all of the time and this song is certainly no exception! It was written very specifically with someone in mind and served its purpose well at the time. Moving forward, you wind up in completely new situations in life and, all of the sudden, your own lyrics are haunting you as they mysteriously point directly to an entirely new situation and you wonder what dark alleyway you picked up the skill of clairvoyance from along the way!
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the music video and learn more about the album
