Motorhead Bandmate Warns Lemmy
(Classic Rock) Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee has issued a warning to frontman Lemmy Kilmister, saying it's time the rock icon started to look after himself following his recent health issues.

The band were sent into turmoil earlier this year when Lemmy spent several weeks in hospital, then fell ill again after going back on the road. They were forced to cancel a tour and even endured rumours that the bassist and vocalist had died following the band's cut-short performance at Germany's Wacken festival.

In the cover feature of the latest edition of Classic Rock, the drummer says: "I think after all he's been through, I'd say this: 'Lem, when are you going to get sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? it's time you started to take care of yourself.'"

But Lemmy is unrepentant. He says of his hospital stint: "It was nothing; I'm over it." more on this story

Monster Magnet Streaming Entire New Album Online
(hennemusic) Monster Magnet are streaming their new album, "Last Patrol", in advance of its release this coming Tuesday, October 15. The band 's first album since 2010's "Mastermind" is produced by Phil Caivano and frontman Dave Wyndorf.

"Last Patrol is a return to our roots in terms of vibe and recording style," explains Wyndorf. "It's full-on psychedelic space-rock with a 60's garage feel, recorded almost exclusively with vintage guitars, amps and effects in our hometown of Red Bank, NJ."

"The songs are a kind of Space-Noir, tales of cosmic revenge, peaking libidos, alienation and epic strangeness," he continues. "It's a weird trip through the back alleys of a dark, retro-future, which not by coincidence very much resembles my own life. (laughs)

"The lyrics aren't fantasy really, rather a recounting of my musings on, observations of and general emotional reaction to my life and environment during a 1 week writing period in February of 2013. But I tend to use the vernacular and imagery of science fiction and surrealism to express myself and that's where these lyrics get trippy. There's also our cover version of Donovan's "Three Kingfishers" which I thought fit the mood of the album." Check out the album stream here.

The band sent out these comments "Ms. Floor Jansen is a keeper. Also, we will be a six-piece band from now on, as Mr. Troy Donockley (uilleann pipes, low whistles, vocals) will become a full-time member of Nightwish.

"Originally we were going to wait until 2014 to make a decision about the future line-up of the band, but the past year has clearly shown us that Floor and Troy are perfect matching pieces to our puzzle, and we are really grateful of the bond that has grown between all of us. We love you guys."

Floor Jansen had this to say, "Words cannot describe what I feel! This union is beyond everything and I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to continue this amazing journey with my new brothers! Once I had a dreamand this is it!!!"

A beautiful process. Wondrous scenes Ahoy!"

Metallica Frontman Has More Than Enough Riffs For New Album
(Gibson) Metallica's James Hetfield has spoken to the Oakland Press about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's follow-up to 2008's Death Magnetic.

"Hopefully [we will return to the studio] soon," Hetfield said. "I'm itchin'. We have tons of material to sift through. That takes a lot of time, because there's a lot of great stuff.

"I know we only need a few songs, but there's 800 riffs we're going through. It's kind of insane. We have sifted through a lot of the stuff and pulled the cream of the crop it's just sitting there waiting for us to take it to the next level."

Hetfield hopes to record in Spring 2014, but drummer Lars Ulrich reckons it will be 2015 before a new album is finally done. Ulrich tells Kerrang! magazine, "Obviously, there are a lot of people asking where the next record is. We're going to make another record, but like I said before, we don't really feel this kind of what's the word? I guess 'responsibility' is probably the right word.

"We don't feel this inherent responsibility to just churn out records whenever people want them If I was betting on this, I would say 2015 that's where my money is." more on this story

Tommy Farese Explains Dismissal From Trans-Siberian Orchestra
In a new interview, Tommy Farese discusses his entire career including going into details about the circumstances around his dismissal from Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

When he was asked by Dan Roth of Music and Art Interviews about his final TSO tour in 2010 and if he saw the end coming, Tommy responded, "I heard the train coming down the tracks. After Tony went, I was the last one out. I kind of knew it was coming."

In a follow up answer he went into details about what happened. He said, "I got a phone call from [TSO manager] Adam [Lind] in June of 2011. He basically said that they had heard that I was writing songs for this band that had some former TSO members in it they were calling it 'TxO' at that point. I said, 'Yeah, I had some songs that I wrote for myself that I am giving to these guys because they are starting their own venture. What's the problem?' Adam says, 'It's a conflict of interest and Paul is very hurt'.

"I said, 'Why? I broke bread with these guys. We all banded together. We were family. Remember family? That's what this was supposed to be? Am I supposed to turn my back on them? These guys are like family to me. We spent a lot of time onstage together, we spent our holidays together. I didn't spend my holidays with my family I spent them with these guys.'

"I guess they were looking for a reason and could not come up with anything, so this is what they came up with."

He covers a lot more ground in the interview. Read it in full here.

Gibson Release New Slash Les Paul
(Gibson) Gibson USA has launched a new Slash Signature Gibson Les Paul in a stunning color: Vermillion red. The rich, deep-red transparent finish is hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer to exhibit the guitar's Grade-AAA flamed maple top, while also letting the tonewood breathe to enhance an equally rich, deep, resonant tone.

Commemorative details include a Slash graphic on the headstock, echoed in a silkscreen on the included black Gibson USA hardshell case. Add a pair of Seymour Duncan Slash Signature humbucking pickups, a TonePros Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, and top it all off with unparalleled Gibson build quality, and the Slash Signature Vermillion Les Paul is a stunner that plays and sounds as good as it looks.

You get a select mahogany backtreated with Gibson's traditional weight relief to increase playing comfort and enhance resonanceplus a solid, glued-in, quarter-sawn mahogany neck. The neck is carved in the fast '60s SlimTaper profile that Slash prefers, and topped with a Grade-A rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional trapezoid inlays.

The Slash Signature humbuckers are made in the image of the hallowed Gibson PAF humbuckers of the late 1950s, with genuine Alnico II magnets, but with Slash's preference of a few extra turns of wire for a richer, throatier tone in the neck position and plenty of crunch and wail in the bridge. They are wired in the traditional four-knob control complement with three-way selector switch, and use vintage-style "orange drop" tone capacitors on the tone pots. See a photo here.

Slipknot's Corey Taylor Talks Religion, New Book, Pro Tools
(Radio.com) He's the closest thing metal has to a renaissance man: Corey Taylor fronts no less than two major bands, Slipknot and Stone Sour. He's written a comic book series based on Stone Sour's House Of Gold & Bones albums and now has two books to his name: 2012′s Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good and his more recent A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven: Or, How I Made Peace With The Paranormal And Stigmatized Zealots And Cynics In The Process.

It's the latter book that's been on his mind lately. He is rankled by the idea that it will be filed under "music" in book stores, as it's a serious look at the supernatural, which neither flatly denies paranormal occurrences, nor buys into all of the explanations for them. Much of the book was inspired by Taylor's own experiences.

As he told Radio.com, "It came down to, well, I've had all of these experiences. And yet, every explanation that has been offered to me has not been satisfactory, whether it's religious, or complete dismissal by the skeptics, or the purported 'ghost hunters,' who get more and more reactionary with every series. I'm more interested in the proof of it. I wanna know what this is, instead of just going 'Aaaah!' I'd rather go, 'Oh, that's what this could be.' Once I figured out that that's where I wanted to write it from, the rest of it just kind of fell together."

An avowed atheist, the book may not gel with Taylor's more religious friends, but he's careful how he treads on that ground: "I don't knock how people feel, I knock the religion itself. That's because so much of man's fingerprints are on religion. If there was more proof in God, I'd probably believe more in it. It's always been way more divisive than inclusive, so that's one the reasons I've never subscribed to that side of things."

His next book could well be a tutorial on how to budget your time. Besides all the aforementioned projects, in recent years, he's also guested on a number of albums, including Dave Grohl's Sound City, Travis Barker's Give The Drummer Some along with a solo holiday single, "X-M@$." He says he actually gets most of his work done while on the road. He's a lot more laid back when he's not on tour: "When I'm at home, I like to just be with my family. Be a dad, be the guy making lunch, dinner, breakfast. And then I lay on the couch for an hour, drink coffee and scratch myself."

A few months back, he did a couple of shows with Dave Grohl's Sound City Players, performing a set of Cheap Trick covers, backed by Grohl and Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen. He says he loved Grohl's Sound City film, and would love to return to the analog world. "I could totally make an album on two-inch tape, it would be amazing to go back to that. You use Pro Tools as a tool, you don't use it to paint over the fact that you have zero talent. Nothing's more offensive to me, to be honest." Read more and stream the video interview here.

Singled Out: Bardot's Sylvia, My Love
Today Ariel Aparicio from Bardot tells us about the song "Sylvia, My Love" from the group's debut EP, which they just released as a free download on their official website. Here is the story:

"Sylvia, My Love" was one of the first tunes we did. Man, did it come together quickly! Berger hit that drum groove almost instantly when I started playing the song, everything else just fell right into place.

Pemberton's killer part is just bad ass , but when he went to that high octave trotting bass line for the chorus, we all almost lost it. And of course, as always, Dawson came up with his riff on the first try but on every replay it just got better and better.

I sometimes write lyrics very stream of conscious, and this was one of those songs. I really didn't know who "Sylvia" was as I was writing it... The name just kept popping in my head. At the end of our first rehearsal session with this song Berger asks me, "Is this about Sylvia Rivera?" I said, "Who?" He said, "You know, Sylvia Rivera... Stonewall, GLBT activist." I went home and Googled "Sylvia Rivera." Immediately I started rewriting some of the lyrics... "Sylvia - good as gold, She rocks my soul."

This song is dedicated to an American hero, Sylvia Rivera.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album and grab the free download right here!
