Slipknot To Surprise Fans With Next Song

(TeamRock Radio) Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor says new track The Negative One was a "gift" to fans - with an official single due out in a few weeks. The band released a video for The Negative One this week and Taylor says he loves that fans didn't know what to expect. But he has revealed a new song is on the way.

He tells BBC Radio 1: "People don't know what to expect from us, and that's kind of the way we like it. The Negative One isn't our single. That was just a gift for the fans. Like, we wanted them to hear a piece of the album.

"The single comes out in a few weeks, and it's completely different. It's more melodic, but it's dark, it's powerful, man. It's something different. People are gonna lose their minds when they hear that.

"The thing I love is that everyone's reactions are very, very similar. They love the fact that there's new Slipknot out. They also love the fact that it feels like old school meets new school."

Arrest Made For Limp Bizkit Phone Thefts

(TeamRock Radio) A man who was in possession of 27 smartphones which were stolen during a Limp Bizkit gig has been jailed for 14 months. Romanian Stefu Costel initially said he was looking after the bag containing the handsets for his brother's friend, but pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods when the phones were found at his home just two days after the concert.

The phones, worth 9000, were taken from the crowd during Limp Bizkit's February 2014 show at Manchester's Academy and was the second time Costel had targeted music fans - he spent time in jail last year for stealing phones at the Reading festival.

Prosecuter Tim Greenald says: "They were not aware of the thefts when they took place but realised they had become victims during the night. It was an organised and planned theft, most likely committed by more than one person, with a degree of skill used." more on this story

Making Of David Bowie's Hunky Dory Book Released

New York Times Best-selling author Ken Sharp has released a new David Bowie book entitled, "Kooks, Queen Bitches And Andy Warhol: The Making Of David Bowie's Hunky Dory."

The book is in paperback format, runs for 112-pages and it chronicles the back story behind David Bowie's 1971 album, 'Hunky Dory.' To write the book Sharp spoke to members of Bowie's band, producer Ken Scott, RCA Records personnel and also used archival commentary from David Bowie and the late Mick Ronson, according to the synopsis.

Trevor Bolder, bassist on 'Hunky Dory' had this to say, "Hunky Dory is still one of my all time favorite albums - it's my favorite of all the records I did with David Bowie. I have many fond memories of the making of it as this was the first recording I ever played on. Hunky Dory is unique, has wonderful songs of great warmth and feel and is beautifully recorded. Ken has really captured much of this sentiment and detail in his book, which I greatly enjoyed and highly recommend."

'Hunky Dory' drummer Woody Woodmansey adds, "I'm impressed with Ken's approach to this project. It was a nice change to have intelligent questions and to be able to recount the making of this album. It will make a good read for any fan."

Check out the video trailer for the book here and Sharp is selling the new book exclusively on his website here.

The 65-year-old underwent surgery to have a stent inserted which corrected the problem.

Simon Porter, Quo's manager was delighted to hear Parfitt was on the mend and revealed the band would be announcing a new project soon: "We are all obviously delighted Rick has made such rapid progress," he said, "especially as the band is shortly to unveil another exciting and innovative new project - details of which will be announced in the next couple of weeks." more on this story

Trouble Working On New Album and Reveal Tour Plans

(TeamRock Radio) Metal veterans Trouble are working on fresh material - and the band's guitarist Rick Wartell reveals that the band will undertake a European tour in November.

Speaking to Metal Kaoz, Wartell says work on the follow up to 2013's The Distortion Field was in "full swing" and the band hope to release the album in late 2015.

"The Distortion Field took a long time for a lot of reasons other than the writing process - we went through two vocalists and we lost tracks during the recordings," he says. "For the new release, we began writing right after we finished the last album, so we're kinda ahead of the game.

"We have 8 or 10 songs written at this point. A lot of them are completed and just need a little tweaking here and there but the writing process is in full swing and we're getting close. I'd like to have the album recorded by the end of summer 2015 and release it in Autumn." more on this story

Anthrax's Scott Ian Announces Swearing Words In Glasgow DVD

(hennemusic) Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian will release a new DVD, "Swearing Words In Glasgow", on November 13. The package features Ian recorded live during his "Speaking Words" tour, where the rocker shared stories from his 30-plus year career with the thrash metal band.

"I've always loved musicians like Jello Biafra and Henry Rollins, who have the balls to do spoken word performances," explains Ian. "It's just them and the mike. There's no band to make them look good or cover up their mistakes. They're alone, naked. It's seemed like a really cool thing to do, but I'm not especially political and while I'm interested in a lot of different subjects from good food to great comic books, I'm not enough of an expert in any one area to get onstage and talk about it like I know any more than anyone else."

"Once I got over my jitters and latched into a groove I felt like I was performing at Madison Square Garden," he continued. "The euphoria of being onstage telling stories about my life and getting an immediate reaction from the crowd was better than crystal meth not that I've ever tried crystal meth, but I've watched enough episodes of 'Breaking Bad' to know it gets you really f***ing high. I was making contact, they were intently listening, empathizing and laughing, not at me, but with me. Some stories were better than others, but overall the pace, the flow, the interaction felt amazing. And while I know I'm a long way from guys like Rollins and Biafra, I felt like I had been doing this for years." more on this story

Court documents state that the man suffered from fractures to his nasal area and face, brain bleeding, swelling around his eyes, 11 broken ribs and a liver laceration.

It was also reported that the two men tried to unsuccessfully carve a tattoo from the victim's arm before dousing his arm with a flammable liquid and setting fire to it. The victim's arm had to be amputated below the elbow. He is now in critical condition at a Baltimore burn center. The two assailants say the attack stemmed from the victim's treatment of his girlfriend. But as Delaware Online reports, the cops are also looking into the "strong possibility" of the two mens' affiliation with the Juggalos, who are classified as a "gang," by the FBI. Talking Heads Put Life Savings Into Stop Making Sense

(Classic Rock) Thirty years after their influential concert film Stop Making Sense, Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz reveals the band had to plunder their life savings in order to pay for the film.

Directed by Jonathan Demme, who later won an Oscar for The Silence Of The Lambs, the film concentrated on using dramatic lighting, lingering close-ups and very little in the way of audience footage. But that innovation came at a cost, as Frantz explains to Rolling Stone.

"One thing nobody every mentions is the fact the band paid for the movie," he says. "Yes, we got a loan from Warner Bros, but it was against our royalties so the four of us coughed up the money.

"We didn't have a whole lot of savings, so we were basically putting our life savings into the movie. I'm glad we did, because not only did we get it back, but we have a great film." A lot more.

Singled Out: Message To Venus' Universal You

Today Message To Venus singer and guitarist Jandre Nadal tells us about the song "Universal You" from their "The Envelope" EP. The band are right now planning the release of a new fanfunded album "Victims & Villains." Here is the story:

'Universal You' was a fun song in the writing process. I've always been a huge fan of reggae and the reggae bass. Besides air drums, I'm always pretending to do air reggae bass. (Laughs). We are not a reggae roots band, and of course many bands like 311 have mixed roots and rock, but we wanted to do this with our sounds on this track, maybe it's because we are from a tropical island?

We decided to have a heavy bass driving the song with this constant groove. You can really hear this in the verse where we used a Gibson Les Paul bass with Bartolini active pickups to get that heavy mahogany low end. Then we added trippy guitar delays. Mixing the right amount of reverb with the right delay can be a challenge. To have that reggae delay we set the time to 1/8 notes. Then we added some chorus. Mixing palm muting picking with tremolo picking with a whole note at the end helped accent the effect of the delay. This was so much fun to record, it never got old. JuanMa [JuanMa Font, drums] puts the icing on top with the ghost notes and rim shots. We also use a lot of open power chords on this track, it gives the song that big wall of sound in it. We tried to keep the song simple except we had to put that little breakdown at the end, it's just so much fun to do live!

The vocals of 'Universal You' are very melodic and have a hurtful sound because of the lyrics. This is probably the 4th track M2V ever recorded. The song is about having a deep regret losing someone close, and not being able to carry that weight on your shoulders. Feeling guilt and blame for this loss inspired this song, lyrically. That's what "this is my execution" means. It's all pretty clear in the verses.

Besides the sadness of the theme, this is a great song to rock out and sounds great on your local jukebox. So crank it loud!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here and if you like what you hear, you can help the band release their new album "Victims & Villains" right here!
