Foreigner's Lou Gramm and Mick Jones Reuniting For New Music

Former Foreigner frontman Lou Gramm has confirmed that he is reuniting with guitarist Mick Jones to work on new music, but it will be for their solo albums and not the arena rock band's next album.

"Sometime in September, Mick and I are gonna get together and write some music," Gramm said to Rochester, N.Y.'s 95.1 the Brew, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. "I'm excited about it and very much looking forward to it.

"I'm actually helping him with a couple of songs on a solo album that he's gonna be releasing, and he's gonna help me with a couple of songs on an album that I'll be releasing next year."

Although Jones was recently quoted as saying that he and Gramm were considering working together on leftover music from the 1980s, Gramm says that the material is much newer.

"It's actually the songs we were writing, working on together when we split up in 2003," Gramm says. "So those were songs that were done at the end of the '90s and early '00s, and they're really good."

Motorhead Fan Suffers Brain Injury From Headbanging

(Classic Rock) Metal and rock fans are being warned about the dangers of headbanging after a 50-year-old man developed a blood clot on the brain during a Motorhead concert.

Doctors in Germany say the man complained of a persistent headache in the weeks following the gig and they discovered bleeding on the brain which developed into a clot, the BBC reports.

The man said he had no history of head trauma and said he hadn't been drinking excessively or taken any drugs. But he added he had been headbanging at the 2012 gig.

Surgeons at Hannover Medical School successfully removed the clot, but in their case report, the doctors warned: "Some fans might be endangered by indulging in excessive headbanging." more on this story

Johnny Depp Stars In Paul McCartney's New 'Early Days' Video

(Radio.com) Paul McCartney took a left-field approach when casting the video for "Early Days," a remembrance song for John Lennon off his 2013 album New. Rather than find lookalikes for himself and Lennon, the former Beatle went with unknown actors playing aspiring musicians in 1950s South - and instead of putting Johnny Depp front and center, which could have overshadowed the video's heartfelt story, McCartney relegated the actor to a peripheral role as one of his bandmates.

Macca's unexpected choices work in the video's favor. But the decision to briefly show Depp is also part of an inside joke between the pair, who've worked together before on Paul McCartney's videos for "My Valentine" (2012) and "Queenie Eye" (2013). "It's getting to be a running gag," McCartney told Rolling Stone. "He's like the Alfred Hitchcock of my videos. And he's good!"

It wasn't hard for Depp to get into character, especially considering he has a musical pastime - as a guitarist, he contributed to Oasis' 1997 song "Fade In-Out" and was a member of the supergroup P, alongside Butthole Surfers' singer Gibby Haynes, Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, and Sex Pistols' guitarist Steve Jones.

"He used to be a musician before he was an actor, you know," McCartney explained. "One of his old bandmates actually organized getting me that cigar-box guitar that I played with Dave Grohl on 'Cut Me Some Slack,' that we ended up getting a GRAMMY for. So I knew he could play."

But even if Depp didn't have prior experience in a band, McCartney likely still would have cast him; he thinks that actors are naturally suited to try their hand at music, and vice-versa. "They're similar gigs, really," he added. "Ringo [Starr] used to know Peter Sellers very well, and Peter wanted to be a drummer - that was his secret closet ambition. You run into a lot of guys who play who are actors. There a bunch you can think of. Bruce Willis does it. Then there are people who do both, like Jared Leto." More including the video.

Motley Crue Can't Use Tommy Lee's Cruecifly At Some Shows

Motley Crue just launched their Farewell tour but some fans that attended the band's July 4th stop at the Milwaukee Summerfest were disappointed that Tommy Lee didn't use his elaborate drum setup at the show.

Lee's rollercoaster like setup for the tour has been dubbed "The Cruecifly" and Lee took to Twitter this weekend to explain why he won't be using it at all stops on the trek.

Lee tweeted, "Hi guys. Want you to know certain venues cannot handle The Cruecifly. It's not our fault their roof cannot hang the rig. It's massive!" You can see video of Lee on The Cruecifly here.

Iron Maiden May Launch Their Own Museum

(hennemusic) Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson says that the band is considering opening their own interactive museum filled with stage props and equipment from their lengthy career.

"We've got loads of gear kicking around," singer Bruce Dickinson tells the Daily Star. "I don't want it to end up in some po-faced museum, with people in white suits saying 'Don't touch this'."

"I donated a jacket to the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame," he continued, "and it was locked away in a glass cabinet miles away from your eyes." "Eddie's not that sensitive," he laughed, referring to their legendary mascot. more on this story

Dave Grohl Thinks Crowdfunded Tours Could Be Game Changer

(Classic Rock) Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl thinks that crowdfunded tours could become the norm for bands in years to come. Foo Fighters have agreed to play a gig in Richmond, Virginia USA after fan Andrew Goldin launched a crowdfunding appeal to get the band to perform there for the first time since 1998.

Goldin set a goal of selling 1400 tickets for $50 each, with donors only being charged if the band agreed to play. When the Foos heard about the successful campaign they said they would play - although a date and venue have not yet been confirmed.

Grohl tells a South African radio station: "It could become the way that bands decide where they want to play. It's a fun thing - it sort of changes the game." more on this story

Behemoth's Darski Unmasks Ghost Singer?

(TeamRock Radio) Behemoth's Nergal Darski has apparently revealed the true identity of Ghost singer Papa Emeritus II. The members of Ghost go to great lengths to keep their real identities private. But many fans have described Papa Emeritus II's identity as the worst-kept secret in rock - with rumours strongly suggesting for years that he is Swede Tobias Forge of Magna Carta Cartel.

Nergal has posted an Instagram picture of himself backstage with Tobias at Fortarock festival in the Netherlands, where Ghost and Behemoth played on the same stage, one after the other.

The photo is accompanied by the caption:"If you have ghosts...U have everything ;-)" The line is a lyric from Roky Erickson song If You Have Ghosts, which Ghost covered last year.

Syd Barrett Inspired Album Released On Anniversary Of His Death

(Prog) A concept album which pays tribute to late Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett has been released on the eighth anniversary of his death. The debut album by Garden Music Project is called Inspired By Syd Barrett's Artwork - and it does exactly what is says on the tin. Its 12 songs reflect Barrett's artistic concepts and his musical legacy.

Available now via Cherry Red Records, the project was created by Adriana Rubio, who co-wrote the tracks with guitarist and singer Alexander Ditzend. Other musicians who appear on the album are Stefan Ditzend, Nicolas Saganias and Fabrizio Gamba.

Trivium Guitarist Says Member Change Needed To Happen

(TeamRock Radio) Trivium guitarist Corey Beaulieu says the band's split with drummer Nick Augusto "needed to happen." The metal outfit sacked Augusto in May, replacing him with road crew member Mat Madiro.

Guitarist Beaulieu tells Impact: "It just wasn't working out. At that time, it was best to go our separate ways instead of trying to keep going on and then something happening and having an effect on shows or anything like that.

"It was very calm and chill, but it just needed to happen. Sometimes, after a while, things just aren't going the way you kind of hope for and you've got to make a switch. It's a pain in the ass to switch members and get someone up to speed. But Mat's been doing great. He came into the role and he's been doing a great job playing the songs and playing the shows." Frank Turner Wants To Make Punk Album With Gaslight Anthem Star

(TeamRock Radio) Frank Turner has let slip his future plans - including a duet on his upcoming sixth album and a punk record in the vein of Rancid. Turner tells TeamRock Radio that he may even call Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem to help with his planned punk record.

He says: "I wanna make a punk album like Rancid or the Gaslight Anthem maybe, Tom Petty floating around my head. That kind of short and sharp sound. I could call Brian Fallon if I wanted to.

"I spent an entire year on tour with The Gaslight Anthem and they are awesome people and I miss them, so maybe I should call them. We'll see. There's a song on the record which is written to be a duet, as it's a conversation between a man and a woman, and some really exciting people are on the table and old friends I'd love to play with. I've definitely said too much." More from Turner

Axemaster Recruit Reign's Denny Archer

Axemaster have announced that Joe Sims former bandmate from the band Reign, Denny Archer, has been recruited as the new permanent drummer of Axemaster. The band sent over these details:

"After a successful show and great weekend overall at the Ragnarokkr Metal Apocalypse festival in Chicago last April, the band decided that a change was needed in order for Axemaster to best move forward. We are now proud to announce that Denny Archer (who played with the band at the festival) is now the permanent drummer of Axemaster.

"As mentioned in our previous press release, Denny and Joe Sims played together for a number of years in the late 90's with a very successful band called Reign, so they already have chemistry in both playing and writing together which has already proven to be very beneficial. Denny is highly experienced, an absolute professional, and a greatly respected world-class drummer who has played and/or recorded with a number of higher level projects. It's an honor to include him in the Axemaster family, his addition has already done and will continue to do a lot for the project in every way.

"Joe Sims said 'I can't totally express how happy and excited I am that Denny decided to come on board for the long run. I have known him since we were little kids, we're like family! Actually, all the way around, this band has an AMAZING lineup. It's beyond great to be able to work with a group of guys who are not only outstanding musicians, but also professionals in every sense of the word and the best of friends. No egos, no drama, no problems; unless you have been in or worked closely with bands you have no idea how rare that is!!!!'"

"Although a lot of work still needs to be done to finish the new Axemaster album 'Overture to Madness', enough has been completed to allow us to submit material and begin talking to labels about its release. Quite a few have expressed interest, and the band is currently in negotiations with one in particular. We will go into more detail once there is more definite information. Although mixing and mastering each song takes quite a length of time to compete (due to several different factors), all the work is proving to be VERY worthwhile as we believe the most recently completed masters definitely have the sound quality necessary to be considered entirely professional.

"Lastly, as fate would have it, the album that Joe and Denny recorded with Reign (originally released independently in 1997) titled "Now and Forever" was recently re-released on CD by Divebomb/Tribunal Records. It's been re-mastered (much improved sound) and includes new killer artwork, vintage photos, song lyrics, and an interview with Joe."

You can find more information about the disc here.

Fred Durst Reveals Limp Bizkit's Stealth Release Plans

(Classic Rock) Fred Durst says Limp Bizkit have a stealthy plan for future releases and that they will focus on EPs rather than albums. Durst says there is no firm release date for upcoming album Stampede Of Disco Elephants, but insists it may be their last full album for some time as they plan to put out EPs with no marketing so fans can discover them for themselves.

Ahead of Limp Bizkit's Apollo Stage appearance at Sonisphere earlier this week, Durst told TeamRock Radio: "We are going to work on getting Stampede out first but EPs are fun and something we are going to get more and more into. I grew up loving EPs and we can put one out whenever we want and that's probably what we will do.

"We probably won't let anyone know when they are coming out. You want to discover those things form the bands you love, like 'Sh*t, I'm a core fan and I know this is out.' So it isn't something we will market."

Singled Out: Rikity's Black Limousine

Today Randy Pratt of Rikity, The Lizards, Cactus tells us about the song "Black Limousine" which comes from the new Rikity album release "Greatest Hits Volume 1." Here is the story:

I wrote a song for my comedy/dance band "The Funky Knights" in the 90s called "Black Limousine". It was, like lots of our songs, raunchy, sexy and funny. The chorus always sounded like a hit to me, so after that band went on sabbatical, I considered if for Rickity. Rickity has a lot of sexy songs, but the silly quality wouldn't fit with us. I jammed on the idea with Rickity and all of a sudden it took on a dark, urban sultriness. I went a little overboard with the poetic eroticism of the lyrics, which seemed to fit the slow funk crawl of the main riff.

Our first jam seemed magical and I was grateful that we had recorded it on multi-track. Neil's uncharacteristically restrained drum part was almost flawless, so we started testing overdubs as our first cd progressed. Many months went by and we tinkered with "Black Limousine" as we completed 2 cds worth of songs in the studio. I don't think anyone thought the song was a contender for our cd. Even though we rehearsed two hours of music, we never even bothered to learn the song.

When Paul and Perrita finally nailed their vocals, all of a sudden there it was! Everyone acknowledged we had a one of a kind little gem.I think we were a little intimidated to attempt to play it live, but it fell into place easily. It doesn't sound like anything like any of our other songs. The version on the cd was completed before we had even attempted to play it live.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
