Fan's Brain Injury Not Motorhead's Problem

(Classic Rock) Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell has no sympathy for the fan who ended up with bleeding on the brain from allegedly headbanging at one of the band's concerts. The guitarist took a less compassionate view than his bandmate Mikkey Dee, who last week said he hoped the 50-year-old German fan was okay.

The man was treated at Hannover Medical School in Germany after complaining of a constant headache in the weeks after attending the gig. It was discovered he had developed a subdural haematoma on his brain which doctors linked to headbanging.

But Campbell insists that if fans overdo it in the moshpit, they have no one to blame but themselves. He tells TeamRock Radio: "I read it in the paper. That's just journalistic crap. It's nothing to do with Ace Of Spades or music. We don't have a problem with anyone. We just do our own thing.

"If people get into trouble while we're playing, that's their problem. It's a bad thing, but we don't try to get people to get into trouble or whatever."

New Tool Music Delayed By Lawsuit

(Radio.com) It's been eight years since Tool has released an album. With all the fan speculation as to why the great delay exists, it appears the culprit is a complicated lawsuit.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Adam Jones and drummer Danny Carey explained that the trouble began in 2007 when an artist and friend of Jones sued the band for artwork he said he'd provided.

The band thought they were protected because they'd purchased insurance for this type of thing. Unfortunately, the agency from which they'd purchase the insurance sued them as well over technicalities. So, the band counter-sued.

If all goes as well for the band, the case will be put to rest when it hits court in January. "The whole thing is really depressing," confessed Carey to Rolling Stone.

"The bad thing is it's really time-consuming. As we've gotten older and our priorities have changed, it's hard to get the band on a good, solid schedule as it is. People have kids now. And there's lots of other things that pop up. To throw this into the mix, it makes everything that much worse and stresses people out." more on this story

Thunder's Ben Matthews Diagnosed With Cancer

(Classic Rock) Thunder guitarist Ben Matthews is to receive medical attention for a malignant tumor that was found during a routine operation, the band have reported.

The 50-year-old was replaced by The Union's Pete Shoulder for their Calling festival appearance at the end of June while he recovered from tonsil surgery.

Frontman Danny Bowes says: "The surgeon found some 'extra' matter attached to one of them, and after some tests, it was found to be malignant. "In effect he has cancer and needs treatment, which will mean a course of both radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Whilst the treatment is not pleasant, we're told the percentage chances of a happy outcome are 'in the high 90s'." more on this story

The Winery Dogs Working On Next Album

(Gibson) Rock supergroup The Winery Dogs (Richie Kotzen, Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy) will hit the studio soon to begin work on album number two, guitarist/vocalist Kotzen has revealed.

In an interview with GetYourRockOut's Felicity Hall, Kotzen said he wasn't feeling any pressure about following up the band's successful 2013 debut, which entered the Billboard chart at number 27 with sales of around 10,200 copies a year ago.

"Once you start looking at music like a math equation and you start making choices that are outside the realm of creativity, you put yourself in a situation for a lot of emotional failure," Kotzen said. "And when you're there, then the music is meaningless and everything suffers and then things fall apart. So I think whatever we do, we'll do what feels natural and what the three of us can get behind." more on this story

Young the Giant Challenges Weezer to Frisbee Duel

(Radio.com) Usually when we have one band laying down a challenge to another band on social media, things are getting ugly. But in the case of Young the Giant vs. Weezer, things are just getting fun.

You may remember the clip of Weezer drummer Patrick Wilson catching a Frisbee at a Florida concert that went viral last month. Well, last weekend at Michigan's Mo Pop Festival, Young the Giant's frontman Sameer Gadhia made a bid to be the ultimate Frisbee champion of alternative rock when a fan launched a disc from the back of the amphitheater.

Sure, the big difference is that Weezer's came mid-song, Wilson catching the identified flying object in mid-hit. But that didn't stop Young the Giant from challenging Weezer on Twitter to see who has the best Frisbee-catching rocker. more on this story

Slash Prefers To Look Forward, Not Backward

(Classic Rock) Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash insists that he is more interested in "pushing forward" with his music rather than dwelling on his past achievements.

Slash says he is continually asked about his time in Guns N' Roses, despite the fact he hasn't spoken to Axl Rose since he left the band in 1996. He tells the Ottawa Citizen: "Really, the only people that obsess about Guns N' Roses is the media. I'm an in-the-moment person. I don't look too far in the future and I definitely don't draw on past stuff. Whatever it is you're doing right this second, just do that and do the best you can at it just keep pushing forward."

Slash, who is currently on tour, releases his third solo album, World on Fire, on September 15 and says playing live at the moment is very different from his previous experiences. more on this story

Rise Against Challenged Themselves On New Album

(Radio.com) Rise Against released their seventh studio album The Black Market yesterday (July 15) and frontman Tim McIlrath spoke with Kevin & Bean on KROQ Los Angeles (a Radio.com station) to talk about the new release.

"I felt like we demanded more out of ourselves on this record," confessed McIlrath. "It wasn't just like 'Let's do another record.' It was more like 'Let's create something. Let's go into this and prove that we still have what it takes to challenge ourselves, challenge our listeners. Let's take our fans and our community down this road with us. Let's build something, but do it in a way that's not just rehashing anything old.'"

When Kevin and Bean asked how it felt to be in seven albums in to their career, McIlrath paused and reflected. "I don't know what that was, I don't know if that was sort of like mortality, like a midlife band kind of thing, but it was something about going into this record it was the first time I had really counted our records. I think that before this record it took a journalist to tell me what record we were on. I wasn't keeping track of them" more on this story

Wolfsbane Still Have Future Despite Facebook Drama

(Classic Rock) Wolfsbane have agreed to work their way through a series of online outbursts that led fans to fear the band were about to split. Guitarist Jase Edwards has vowed the band have a future after several members voiced their frustration with their current lack of activity on their official Facebook page.

The Tamworth outfit went on hiatus in 1994 after frontman Blaze Bayley replaced Bruce Dickinson, but regrouped in 2007 and made the association permanent three years later. They launched fourth album Wolfsbane Save The World in 2012 - but had fallen quiet since then.

Drummer Steve Danger and bassist Jeff Hateley both shared their frustration online. Fans followed their messages with desperate requests for more information. Now Edwards has said: "Sometimes being in a band can be frustrating - maybe a lot of the time. But despite recent understandably honest comments, we've agreed that we're gonna get together and work it out. We have an amazing pool of creativity to work with. It's just a case of a getting our heads in the same place."

Singled Out: Jacko Hooper's Egg Shells

Today Jacko Hooper tells us about the song "Egg Shells", the new single from his brand new KickStarter funded debut EP "For You," which was released this week. Here is the story:

I wrote Egg Shells at a time when I was feeling quite under pressure from different parts of my life, from music to relationships to friendships changing. I always seem to have this feeling that I'm on the cusp of something bad happening and that I always have to be careful not to slip up, the feeling that I'm always on treading on 'Egg Shells'.

The chorus relates to a relationship I was in where I always felt like I was going to ruin things by virtue of past experiences, not fully giving all of myself away in the fear of losing it and it back firing even more. It's the wanting of someone to stay around, despite your faults and that you're trying you're best to be able to give everything which sometimes can be tricky. 'Will you my lover, stay if I can gather, all the reasons why I believe that we're together?'

It also touches on anxiety and the walls that it can build up against your own development, again in the fear of damaging what you have already achieved by giving away too much of yourself or not biting the bullet in particular scenarios. It's about wanting to have the guts to just go for things but sometimes feeling that purely the desire to want to change isn't enough to actually do so. 'There's no fire in my hand, just a fear to understand'.

I wrote the song very quickly, as I do with most of my material that is worthy of existing beyond the point of it being written. I don't remember vividly the experience of writing the song, it happened so quickly. I seem to find myself writing songs a lot of my time but out of every 30 written, one will stay. This song was one of the quickest and natural to write, totally unforced and exactly what my mind was thinking at that time.
I sometimes find it strange to explain the meanings of my songs, as I don't like the thought of changing what it means to someone else when they hear the 'truth' behind the words. It reminds me of when you read a book and then it becomes a film, the characters don't look like they should, the buildings aren't the same and the ambience is different. I think this can apply with songs as well. However, maybe it can work the other way too and people can seek more comfort from it knowing what it means to me.

See, I'm doing it again. Always treading on Egg Shells.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here and learn more about the EP right here!
