No cause of death has been given, but he'd been unwell since suffering a stroke after the band played at Hellfest in France in 2011. He'd been replaced by Toby Dammit on the road since then. His last studio appearance was on last year's album Ready To Die.
Confirming Asheton had passed on Saturday, Pop said in a statement: "Scott was a great artist. I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world."

The song has been remastered and is included on an upcoming re-release of the album, which will be reissued with a companion disc along with Led Zeppelin's other records. Jimmy Page admits wading through vaults of unreleased material was a major challenge.
Page says, "The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording... It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time."
Even if you thought you'd heard enough of Led Zeppelin, you can choose to soon hear more. The reissue sets are massive. The reissue of their 1969 self-titled debut features a previously unreleased performance recorded on October 10, 1969 at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. The nine-song set features seven tracks from the album, including an epic 15-minute version of "Dazed And Confused," as well as "Heartbreaker" and "Moby Dick," which would debut on Led Zeppelin II later that month.
Led Zeppelin II , which includes "Whole Lotta Love," features alternate mixes of five songs from the album, including backing tracks to "Thank You" and "Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)," as well as the "new" "La La."

Wylde was performing in Chicago on Friday (March 15th) as part of the all-star lineup of this year's Experience Hendrix Tour and he had his vest and his $10,000 Pelham Blue Bullseye Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar stolen from his tour bus at around 10 PM.
Wylde spoke with The Chicago Tribute about the theft, "I thought somebody might have picked it up and put it in the back lounge (inside the venue) Nothing gets stolen off tour buses unless you don't lock them. Rule number one: when you get off this (expletive deleted) bus, you lock the (expletive deleted) door and you check the handle." He adds, "Hopefully, these morons are going to go down to the flea market, or the pawn shop."
Wylde has asked fans that may have information about the guitar and vest to send a message to his Twitter account at @ZakkWyldeBLS. See a photo of the guitar and read a description of the suspects that stole the guitar

In a statement issued to NME, Marr said: "I was running pretty fast and just went straight over. I banged my shoulder and then realised my hand was in a bad way. Obviously we're hoping there's no long term damage."
Marr, who is currently touring his 2013 debut solo album The Messenger, said he is still hoping to play his planned future live shows, but these all depend on how well his hand heals.
"The plan is to do the Leeds Brudenell (U.K.) shows on March 24 and 25 and then the dates I have in South America as long as I can play the guitar when the plaster comes off. Usually that would be after six weeks but I'm hoping it will be OK, it's a bit up in the air at this point. I may have to start drinking heavily." As Marr is now a vegan non-drinker, the last sentence is a joke. Marr is also a keen runner, but he may be rethinking hitting London streets any time soon.
Marr still plans to release a new solo album in September 2014. "I've got a new record coming out in the end of September. I wanted to do the second one really quick. For me, it was just about being on tour and wanting to capture the spirit of the band and the audience before it wears off. I'd been touring for 11 months so I wanted to keep that same energy. I didn't want to overthink it."

Cohen has already been replaced with James Bond star Ben Whishaw and Queen's Brian May recently told VH1 Radio Networks that filming would begin in May, but Variety reported on Thursday that director Dexter Fletcher has quit the production.
Fletcher reportedly left the film over creative differences with producer Graham King of GK Films. Variety reports that sources told them that there "were some back and forth not just with King and Fletcher but Whishaw who also wanted changes made to the script and that these changes were taking to[o] long to fix and eventually led to King letting Fletcher go."

Bell (Fear Factory), Ann Boleyn (Hellion), Keith St. John (Montrose / Burning Rain), Sin Quirin (Ministry), Edge Of Paradise, Betsy Weiss (Bitch), Rik Fox (Sin / Steeler / W.A.S.P.), Spiders & Snakes, Chris Moore (Cry Wolf), Steve Gaines (Anger As Art / Abaottoir), Shawn Duncan (DC4 / Odin), Matt Duncan (DC4), To Human, Randy Piper (W.A.S.P.), Mandy Lion (WWIII), Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot), Arthur Seay (Unida) are just some of the stars that will take the stage during the Rockers Against Trafficking benefit on April 11th at Paladino's in Tarzana, CA. Chipster sent over these details:
"Besides being a photographer, I am a dad - that is my top priority in life,"
said organizer Estrada. "I have two young daughters that I care about and love very much. For the past few years, human trafficking has been on my radar as we see and hear more and more about this spreading sickness. Young girls, like my daughters, fall victim to this travesty every day - and that worries me."
Last year, Estrada had a birthday party at Paladino's, which resulted in plenty of his rock pals joining in the fun for jam sessions. This year, when talk of having another b-day bash came up, the photographer came up with an idea - make it a benefit to fight human trafficking.
"Our goal is to build awareness and raise funds to support the fight against
"human trafficking here in our own country and abroad," says Estrada. Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world today - second only to drug activity.
"This is tragically happening to nearly two million girls worldwide ever year, some of these girls are as young as 7 years old. This is happening all over the world, and it is also happening right here in our own backyards. Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego are hot spots here in
California."
The show at the ancient Roman chariot racing stadium marks the third European date of the summer for the band, following previously announced appearances at the Pinkpop Festival in Holland on June 7 and the TW Classic Festival in Belgium on June 28.

The concert news comes on the heels of the band's announcement that they will be releasing a 20th anniversary reissue of "Superunknown" on June 3rd.
Propelled by the singles "Spoonman", "Black Hole Sun", "Fell On Black Days", "My Wave" and "The Day I Tried To Live", "Superunknown" debuted at No. 1 in the US and went on to sell more than 9 million copies worldwide, including 5 million in the States alone.

The news comes as the acclaimed band completes work (with Beste on bass) on their fourth studio album in Nashville at LCS Studios with an expected release this summer.
Beste was recruited by the band last August as a fill-in bass player for their Norwegian festival dates and US tour after original bassist Robin Everhart left the band.
Frontman Jay Buchanan had this to say, "Personnel change in a band this tight can be a very worried thing. Suddenly, you have to reprogram yourself from hearing and doing things in a familiar way in order to move forward, sink into and appreciate the new.
"That 'new' is Dave Beste and he's been completely killing it. A close friend of mine for many years, Beste committed wholeheartedly to helping us out when we were in a tight spot and it didn't take long to see that the fit couldn't be more natural. Also, I can't wait for people to hear his playing on this new record because he delivered in spades. So, now it is official. Bonafide. Dave Beste is a Rival Son."
Beste adds, "I'm thrilled to be joining Rival Sons as a member. Getting to travel with your buddies and play in a band you already dig is a really special thing. I couldn't be happier they asked me to join them in this endeavor."
The 161-mile ride begins Alexandra Palace in London on Wednesday, June 11, and ends at Donington Park around midday on June 13. Smallwood says: "Metal fans like to get up off their backsides and do things - it's a very proactive tribe. People still need our help, and this is a great way to do it with an interesting and varied bunch of riders.
"We're all in it together, rough and smooth: whether you're a fan, band member, journalist, manager or otherwise involved in metal music. We ride together, eat together and drink together - it's a blast."

Described as "an impassioned, undeniable shot of singalong Americana", the album was recorded with his backing band The Cameraderie: fiddler Jon Gaunt, bassist Joe Ginsberg, pedal steel player Todd Beene and drummer David Hidalgo.
Former Hot Water Music frontman Ragan explains: "We share a mutual trust and an idea of how music, family, friendship, giving, good energy and community should all be seamless. These guys believe in this and I'm completely blessed to say that they believe in me. So we started calling the bond that we have 'The Camaraderie'."

Fish recently told Classic Rock that the response to A Feast Of Consequences had bolstered his touring plans. "The last time we were out we were saying, 'I don't know if we can do this again,'" he said. "Now you can see the ticket sales are excited by the great reviews for the album."

"We are very much looking forward to playing in front of our UK fans once more," said Geoff Downes. And in particular, we shall be including songs from our brand new album 'Gravitas' - see you there!"
Produced and written by Downes and John Wetton, "Gravitas" introduces Asia's new guitarist, Sam Coulson, who replaced Steve Howe last year following his return to the Yes lineup.

Criss premiered the Ludwig kit in December of 1973 and played it all the way through 1974, before it was replaced by a stretch of Pearl kits. In addition to the 24-inch glitter KISS logo bass drum, the kit also contains the snare, various tom-toms, cymbals, cowbell, drum stool and even some of the original road cases.
The online auction - which runs March 30 through April 6 - also includes over 200 lots of rare KISS memorabilia dating back as far as back as 1973. Among the items is the original Kiss Army jacket given to Peter by Paul Stanley when he and his daughter, Jenilee, made a surprise appearance at the 1995 KISS Convention in Burbank, California. The original Eraldo Carugati painting used for Peter Criss' 1978 solo album is also hitting the block.

The Canadian-US four-piece formed three years ago as an instrumental band, featuring guitarists Aaron Marshall and Lukas Guyader plus drummer Anup Sastry. Things changed when Mike Semesky, formerly of The Haarp Machine, joined the band last year.
He recently explained: "I joined on bass in early 2013, but after writing and experimenting with vocals over demos of our new material, the four of us knew that that was the direction we were meant to go. I feel so blessed to be a part of such a talented group of musicians and I'm extremely proud of the album we all worked so hard on."

The band promise their 12 new songs - Wicked Ways among them - will carry on with the trademark Smash Fashion mix of power pop, glitter, psychedelia, 70s arena rock and punk.
Smash Fashion were formed in 2004 by singer/songwriter Roger Deering as a reaction to the "over-serious, no fun, no energy" LA scene. Says Roger: "I wanted a show band with great songs. The art of being an entertainer seems to have disappeared from the rock format - I wanted to bring it back."
The 2014 version of Smash Fashion features an all-star line up. Joining Roger are Lloyd Stuart Casson on lead guitar (ex-Meatmen, Rock City Angels), Reijo 'Repo' Kauppila on drums (formerly of Finnish grunge/glam gods Smack) and Tony Kinman on bass. Tony is American punk-rock royalty as he was the singer/bass player with the The Dils as well as with Americana pioneers Rank & File.

The experimental outfit last year revealed a video for their song English Rosa, featuring Procul Harum guitarist Dave Ball playing the Grim Reaper. Mainman Scott Milligan formed the band to record the soundtrack to a movie, also called Uh-Oh! based on the life of his uncle, who suffered mental health issues. That's led the band to arrange a series of concerts in psychiatric hospitals.
Milligan explains: "I'm keen to explore the therapeutic benefits of music. The daytime hospital tour building up to the album release should be an amazing learning experience. I want to help chip away at the stereotype that often gets confused with psychopathic behaviour - which, I'm learning, are traits more often to be found in bankers, managing directors and lawyers."

"Thank you for all the congratulations on our wedding today," posted Sixx. "We had a f***ing blast to say the least. We were surrounded by my kids, all our wonderful friends and families at the Greystone Estate in Beverly Hills. Today was a perfect day."
Sixx shared photos of his big day on Instagram, including one with himself and manager Alan Kovac, and one of Kovac and wife Nicole with his new bride.

Frontwoman Laura Jane Grace road-tested the track in front of audiences during her solo tour and had been toying with the song as far back as late 2012. Performed with only an acoustic guitar, lyrics like "I want to p-s on the walls of your house" teetered on touching.
In stark contrast, the electric guitars and rated-R graphics of the video give the song a far darker, more sinister feel, clearing way for the listener to hear and see the pain Grace must have endured as a youth.
In order to achieve the hard-hitting sound on Transgender Dysphoria Blues, Grace told Radio.com they had a very specific target when the band went into the studio, explaining that "sonically, the approach was a little different in wanting to make a more stripped-down record and a more aggressive-sounding record."

DrivenRise was the first song idea out of the gate for what has become the 2014 Riotgod album of the same name. The song's raw music happened to appear relatively soon after the whole Hurricane Sandy episode went down, so let that set the stage. The music once out of the initial instrumental recording stage, arrived at stage 2, for M.SUN. As all the songs go, the instrumental was played over and over again until a melody gelled. This one came on rather quickly, melody was sung into the phone and recorded so as to not forget it.
Personal energies influenced the vibe of that whole creative process and an earnest nature helped craft the words. No one can ever know all the specifics but I can say it deals with optimism. Being around someone who has a proper sense of optimism ( especially when whether or not one's aware they focus disproportionately on the negative ) meaning not "pie-in-the-sky" glossy talk but real glass-half-full talk - can be a learning lesson. Props to my Blue for doing that for me - and a good portion of the energy of this song went her way. She had a house on New Jersey's Long Beach Island, which got battered by the hurricane and a lot was washed out to sea: surfboards, old heirloom bottles of scotch, her whole family house ( not "luxury" beach house ) almost everything but the memories. I myself spent a week without power, alone, with no access to anything. When I was able to reconnect - on a sunny day - the overwhelming happiness - I hope the music can paint that picture and maybe channel some of that energy.
I wanted the words to somehow evoke that KIND of optimism as well. I wanted (importantly) not only that "chin-up" attitude but that combined with a care-free sensibility - essentially that glorious moment when against standard reservation, one says "Fk it - let's do this." and everything goes right - after things have been not-so-good for too long.
This album was recorded in tight windows of time. During the pre-production at home, the vocal arrangement, featuring more than a few layers, was hammered out so that when it came time to lay it down, it went smoothly and quickly.
Garrett was next in the process and he laid down a solo that totally captured the feeling expressed by the lyrics and music already laid down.
DrivenRise - a great way to imagine 2014.
