Queens Of The Stone Age Reuniting With Oliveri

(TeamRock Radio) Bassist Nick Oliveri has confirmed that he will rejoin Queens Of The Stone Age on stage for six encores at the group's upcoming Halloween show in LA.

He was fired from the band in 2004 but has since worked with Queens' frontman Josh Homme in Kyuss and recorded backing vocals on QOTSA's latest album Like Clockwork. He also joined the band on stage at a gig in Portland in April this year.

But Oliveri says while he wouldn't rule out a permanent move, that decision isn't up to him. He tells NME: "That's pretty much up to Josh. It's his band. I put myself out there a few times in the past 10 years. I'd go and see them play and say, 'Hey man, I'm here! Do you want me to sing a song?'

"I stopped asking him after a while and then he asked me! It's pretty much just when he wants to do something these days. It's not up to me."

Pink Floyd Release Another Preview Of New Album

(hennemusic) Pink Floyd have issued a second audio preview of their first new album in 20 years, "The Endless River," which is scheduled to be released on November 11th in North America.

Produced by Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson, its being billed as a four-sided instrumental album with one song, "Louder Than Words", to include new lyrics by Gilmour's wife, Polly Samson.

"'The Endless River' is a tribute to Rick," says Mason. "I think this record is a good way of recognizing a lot of what he does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was."

Coal Chamber Begin Work On Comeback Album

(TeamRock Radio) Coal Chamber have begun the pre-production for their comeback album and the band will begin recording the effort next month, frontman Dez Fafara has revealed.

He'd split the band in 2002 as a result of rampant drug issues, and went on to form DevilDriver. But a reunion began three years ago with guitarist Miguel Rascon and drummer Mike Cox, and bassist Nadja Peulan rejoined in 2013.

Last month Fafara confirmed they were planning to record again. He tells SiriusXM (via Blabbermouth): "We have evolved and the music has evolved. When I heard a couple of the songs I said, 'Man, this could be legitimately really cool.' We're looking to write 25 and then narrow it down, with Mark Lewis producing." Read more here.

Ace Frehley Slams Paul Stanley's Playing

(TeamRock Radio) Ace Frehley has described Paul Stanley as "one of the sloppiest guitarists out there" after the Kiss frontman suggested his ex-bandmate had lost the ability to play.

Stanley recently claimed Frehley "threw away incredible potential and talent" and added: "He got involved with a whole lot of things that really diluted and diminished his craft. I saw that comet grow dim."

Now Frehley tells Metropolis Nights (via Blabbermouth): "That's hysterical, for Paul to try and say something negative against me as a guitar player. He should listen to himself playing live.

"He's more worried about jumping around and pointing his finger. That's been the problem since the beginning of Kiss - we all used to yell at him for making so many mistakes. I would try and cover for him.

"So for him to take a shot at my guitar playing - is he out of his mind?" Read more here.

Dave Davies Optimistic For Kinks Reunion Next Year

(Gibson) Last year Dave Davies put the odds that he and his brother Ray Davies wound mount a Kinks reunion at "50/50." Alas, no tour was forthcoming, but the guitarist is more optimistic about the chances for 2015.

"We have so much great music that goes back so many years," he said recently, speaking to Rolling Stone. "We both want to do something next year."

Davies comments come on the heels of an apparent misunderstanding between Ray Davies and Mojo magazine. Last month, Mojo quoted the Kinks leader as saying he would reform The Kinks in 2015, with or without Dave. Davies subsequently denied making any such statement, and recently the brothers even spent time together in England, playing music.

"It would be a shame if Ray and I didn't do something next year," Dave Davies continues. "I'm prepared to talk. If Ray's got some great ideas, let me hear them. I have my own ideas about how it should be presented. But I don't want it to be a Ray Davies show where he lets his little brother stand in the corner, which he likes to do. It has to be done properly and respectfully."

Def Leppard Mixing Things Up With New Music

(Classic Rock) Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen has revealed their new material is in good shape and will have a heavy and melodic vibe. The band have just wrapped up an extensive US tour with Kiss, and are now working on the follow-up to 2008's Songs From The Sparkle Lounge.

Collen tells Shor Bazaar FM91: "In February I went to Joe's house and we got 12 songs started. We went back in May and got 15, so they're really in good shape. We've still got more stuff to do on them, so that'll be ready next year - and they're very varied.

"You let other things influence you but you still retain your integrity and your sound. We feel we've done that. These songs are a cross section. Some are really heavy and very melodic, and some are just very different - but you can still tell it's Def Leppard.

"We're very excited about that and it will be out next year. We'll be touring a lot more next year as well."

Nearly 1000 people have pledged 50 each for a ticket to the show, which will only have to be handed over if the event is confirmed to take place.

Grohl recently told Rolling Stone: "It could become the way that bands decide where they want to play. It's a fun thing - it sort of changes the game." Read more here.

Thom Yorke Has Latest Unconventional Album Release

(Radio.com) And so it continues with the less-than-conventional album releases. Just weeks after U2 released an entire new album Songs of Innocence for free on iTunes, Thom Yorke has released a solo record himself - via BitTorrent.

According to a release, the album, titled Tomorrow's Modern Boxes, was produced by Nigel Godrich, who co-authored the release with Yorke. Together, Yorke and Godrich detail their plan for the new album's release, which they say is purely experimental.

"It's an experiment to see if the mechanics of the system are something that the general public can get its head around" they write. "If it works well it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work."

U2 Explain New Album Cover

(Radio.com) When U2 made the now-infamous decision to release their latest album, Songs of Innocence, for free with no advance hype (and load it onto people's iPhones without their permission), they hadn't even created artwork for the album.

However, the physical release of the album, due out Oct. 14, will in fact have a conventional album cover (as opposed to the photograph of a white-label pressing of the album that has served as the digital album's ad-hoc artwork).

At first glance, the cover seems a bit homoerotic: it's a shirtless Larry Mullen Jr. hugging a shirtless younger male around the waist. However, as the band explains on their website, the photograph is the band's drummer "protecting his 18-year-old son."

The post explains further: "The idea of the unique relationship between a parent and child, the image of a father and son, came from the band. The shoot with Larry and his son was initially an experiment but everyone loved it as a visual metaphor for the record."

Eyehategod Discuss Death Of Joey LaCaze

(TeamRock Radio) Eyehategod say they kept going after the death of drummer Joey LaCaze because it's what he would have wanted. The band feature on the second episode of NOLA: Life, Death And Heavy Blues From The Bayou - a seven-part series focusing on the New Orleans metal scene.

He says: "It was never a question of ending the band when Joey passed away. We never thought it was over - it just didn't feel right. We knew Joey was like, 'You better not f***ing quit.' We could all feel this vibe."

Guitarist Jimmy Bower adds: "That was definitely a big hit for me. He was more than just important to the band - he had his own groove. Joey was our mentor.

"Knowing Joey, the dude he was and his sense of humour - I think that's why we kept going. It's what he would have done."

Souza Doesn't Blame Exodus Bandmates For Being Leery

(TeamRock Radio) Exodus frontman Steve 'Zetro' Souza has praised the band's fans for keeping them relevant for the past 30 years. Speaking on the group's third behind the scenes clip showcasing new album Blood In, Blood Out, he also reveals the positive response to his return makes him "feel good."

He says: "It makes me feel good and I'm glad it's like that. I do appreciate it and I do appreciate the fans and they know that. We are back with our fans and our fans have kept us relevant for 30 years. We owe them everything."

Blood In, Blood Out launches on October 14 via Nuclear Blast, their first with Souza since 2004's Tempo Of The Damned. Drummer Tom Hunting previously said having Souza back was a seamless transition, but the frontman says he had to open up to his bandmates when he returned.

He continues: "A lot of it was me because I wasn't happy during the Tempo Of The Damned period. And an unhappy Zetro made an unhappy Exodus. I take a lot of the blame - a lot of it was on me. I was the one who left them high and dry so to be leery of this guy again, I don't blame them."

Def Leppard Rock NFL Game With New Guitarist

(hennemusic) Def Leppard played the pre-game show at the first of this year's three NFL International Series games on Sunday as the Oakland Raiders hosted the Miami Dolphins at London's Wembley Stadium.

The event marked the debut of Trixter guitarist Steve Brown in the band's lineup while Vivian Campbell undergoes a stem cell transplant this fall in his ongoing battle with cancer.

Def Leppard performed "Animal", "Let's Get Rocked" and "Pour Some Sugar On Me" at Wembley as NFL cheerleaders danced around the field. Up next, the UK rockers will play three casino shows in California at the end of October.

Campbell was diagnosed last year with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and immediately began chemotherapy and other treatments at the time. "While I can't say that I'm looking forward to the process ahead, I'm very much looking forward to what I feel will be a most successful outcome," says Campbell.

"Next year will be very busy for Def Leppard with a new album and a world tour, and frankly, I don't think they would sound as loud without me, so I have no intention of letting the team down! See you all (with hair!) in 2015."

Eddie Van Halen Did Respond To Jason Becker's ALS Challenge

(hennemusic) Guitarist Jason Becker has revealed that Eddie Van Halen has privately responded to his ALS challenge from last month. Becker, who has lived with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) for 25 years, performed his own Ice Bucket Challenge during the viral video campaign and added Eddie's and singer David Lee Roth's names to the list.

"We have been talking lately, and he sent us a donation," writes Becker. "People should know that he didn't ignore the ice bucket challenge but wanted to do something less public and from his heart."

Roth chose to donate to the cause and posted support for others to participate, as well. Becker joined Roth's solo band in 1989 and is featured on his 1991 album, "A Little Ain't Enough." The guitarist was diagnosed with ALS as he was preparing for a tour with Roth and was given three to five years to live.

Due to his illness, Becker eventually lost the ability to speak and now communicates with his eyes via a system developed by his father. Although his ALS gradually robbed him of his ability to play guitar, to walk, and eventually even to speak, he still remains mentally sharp and, with the aid of a computer, continues composing.

Really Unusual Metallica Cover Goes Online

(Classic Rock) A Metallica fan has launched her cover of classic track One, played on a Chiniese guzheng. Michelle Kwan chose the song because it received the highest number of requests - mirroring the band's recent By Request shows in which setlists were chosen by ticket-buyers.

It follows her take of Guns N'Roses Sweet Child O'Mine, released last year, which has been viewed more than 1.2 million times. Canada-based Kwan says:

"I've seen Metallica in concert twice. My childhood dream is to perform on the big stage like them. If they ever did a collaboration with a guzheng, this is how I imagine it."

The guzheng, an early form of zither, was invented around 2500 years ago and became the most popular instrument in China over the next millennium. The modern version usually has 21 strings.

Norah Jones Closes Out George Harrison Week on Conan

(Radio.com) Norah Jones stopped by Conan Friday night (Sept. 25) to close out the final evening of Conan O'Brien's George Harrison tribute on Conan. The nine-time GRAMMY winner performed "Behind That Locked Door" from Harrison's 1970 triple album All Things Must Pass.

Jones put her own twist on the song as she took the stage with acoustic guitar. Alongside wavering electric guitar that paid homage to Harrison's original, "Behind That Locked Door" had a distinct country feel.

Jones follows previous performers this week honoring Harrison, which included Beck covering "Wah Wah," Paul Simon performing "Here Comes the Sun" as well as Harrison's son Dhani playing "Let It Down" and "Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)" with Big Black Delta.

Conan's week-long Harrison tribute is just one of many going on this month in support of the Sept. 23 reissues of Harrison's first six solo albums. On Sept. 28, Los Angeles' Fonda Theatre will host George Fest, which will be full of tributes from artists across multiple genres.

Robert Plant Rocks Brooklyn

(Radio.com) When you go to see a Robert Plant performance in 2014, here's what you won't get: a "Get the Led Out" show, coasting on the glories of the Led Zeppelin discography. If you're looking to hear the Zep songs arranged the way you remember them, there's a myriad of tribute bands you can catch (may we suggest Lez Zeppelin?). These days, and for a long time now, Plant plays the music that he wants to play, with the people he wants to play it with.

But what you also won't get is a guy in denial of his past and of the things that made him an icon in the first place.

At the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) this past Saturday (Sept. 27)-the second show on his U.S. tour to support his latest album, the excellent lullaby and the Ceaseless Roar-it was obvious that Plant is unconcerned with the size of his paycheck. He could easily make millions by reuniting with Zeppelin whenever he wants to, or with Alison Krauss, for that matter. He also seemed unconcerned with where his music fits in to the pop culture zeitgeist in 2014. And he, his band, and whoever opts to attend his concerts, are all the better for it.

That's because at his shows these days, there are absolutely zero moments of perfunctory performance. Nothing sounds tired, nothing sounds rote. Plant seems equally interested in reimagining Zeppelin classics as he is in playing his new songs and doing new interpretations of blues chestnuts.

A the BAM show, all of the songs he performed fit into one of the above categories. His solo catalog-including his recent forays into Americana-were nowhere to be found.

Plant and his band, the well-named Sensational Space Shifters (Justin Adams on guitars and other stringed instruments, backing vocals; Juldeh Camara on an African fiddle called a ritti, backing vocals; Lim "Skin" Tyson on guitar, banjo, backing vocals; John Battott on keyboards, backing vocals; Billy Fuller on bass; and Dave Smith on drums) entered the BAM stage to the sounds of Link Wray's "Rumble" (a song that one of Plant's former bandmates is a big fan of as well) with the swagger of a band that knows they are about to blow minds.

Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen Talks Being Cut From John Lennon Album

(Radio.com) The latest edition of Radio.com's animation series Minimation is taken from a 1985 interview with guitarist Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, where he discusses how he and drummer Bun E. Carlos recorded parts for John Lennon's 1980 album Double Fantasy. It was animated for Radio.com by MB X. McClain.

Like most other bands of their generation, the guys from Cheap Trick were huge Beatles fans. So it must have been a thrill for guitarist Rick Nielsen and drummer Bun E. Carlos when they received an invite to play on a John Lennon album.

As Nielsen recalled in this interview, they played on Lennon's "I'm Losing You" and "one other song that Yoko was caterwauling on" (that would be "I'm Moving On"; Double Fantasy was credited to Lennon and Ono, each of them wrote and sang half the songs).

Sadly, however, the Cheap Trick guys' parts were replaced by session hands. The Nielsen/Carlos version, which also featured Tony Levin on bass, remained in the vaults for years until finally seeing the light of day on 1998's John Lennon Anthology box set. A music video was also created for that version of the song, with animation that utilizes some of Lennon's drawings.

We Are The In Crowd Release Video For Manners

(TeamRock Radio) We Are The In Crowd have released a music video for Manners, which is the fifth single from their second album Weird Kids. The follow-up to 2011's Best Intentions landed in the UK Top 40 album charts earlier this year and singer Taylor Jardine admits being in the band has been a learning experience.

She says: "There's been a lot of learning, a lot of growing up together. We still fight like children, but we lean on each other to overcome tough situations. This record has a lot to do with what we've learned - there are songs about us and who we want to be and how we want to be identified as people."

We Are The In Crowd played the Slam Dunk Festival earlier this year and will return to the UK in February, opening for Don Broco. Watch the new video here.

He said: "I shouted 'hardcore lives' on Madball's first release. I was 12 then - it was an ad-lib that I just threw out there. I feel the sentiment behind the expression still holds true today, maybe even more so - hence the reason we finally chose to use it as a title."

Freedom To Glide Preview Sick To Death EP

(TeamRock Radio) Freedom To Glide have released an online trailer for upcoming EP Sick To Death, which deals with the concept of shell shock during the First World War.

It follows well-received debut album Rain, launched on Remembrence Day last year by collaborators Pete Riley and Andy Nixon. It was inspired by the experiences of Riley's grandfather, Corporal Robert Wilson, who survived the conflict.

Riley tells Prog: "There's a subtle but conscious shift in music style with Sick To Death - but it's still very much the band our fans have come to know.

"It's a story we felt had to be met head-on, and with the respect and sensitivity it deserves." Watch the trailer here.

Singled Out: Voodoo Sex Cult's 40 Days

Today vocalist Royce Taghon from Arizona desert rockers Voodoo Sex Cult tells us about the song "40 Days" from their brand new studio album "A Year And a Day". Here is the story:

When asked to write the meaning and inspiration behind a song, it doesn't take a whole lot when you are the main writer for a band like the Voodoo Sex Cult. Our songs range in so many different ways, from lyrical content to musical style that it leaves a lot to be said.

"40 Days" is a look at relationships in a whole new light. The idea came to me after a really ugly breakup, ending a three and a half year relationship. I was sitting around thinking of all of the things that went wrong, as one would, and I suddenly realized that it wasn't so much the other person, but me that was responsible for what had happened. So many times we want to point the finger and say, "Oh, that Bitch" or "Oh, he was a Dick", but realistically if we really sit down and do a personal inventory, we find it had a huge part to do with our actions. That can be a harsh reality, but an honest one none the less.

I guess a large part of my writing comes from personal pain, and I have had my share of that. "40 Days" is just a reflection of a self-inventory and the realization that sometimes we have to look at ourselves and forgive the other people in our lives for their shortcomings. I hope you give the song a listen and it stirs some kind of thought or emotion, then my work is complete. Oh, and enjoy the rest of the Voodoo Sex Cult album, thanks for letting me share.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
