Black Sabbath Plan Final Album and Farewell Tour

(Classic Rock) Black Sabbath are to record a final album together and will launch their final tour, Ozzy Osbourne has exclusively revealed to Metal Hammer. The heavy metal legends will team up with producer Rick Rubin once again to record the follow-up to 2013's hugely successful 13 album.

Speaking to Classic Rock at the end of 2013, Ozzy, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler were hesitant about the possibility of making one final Sabbath album - "I don't know if it would be the right thing to do," Iommi admitted. "But who knows. The history of this band has taught me to never say never" - but frontman Ozzy now says that the band will begin work on the album next year.

"The whole Sabbath experience this time around was great," says Ozzy. "We all made friends, we didn't f*** around, we all knew that we had a job to do, and we did it. It was a lot of fun. So we're going to do one more album, and a final tour. Once the dust settled after the last tour we started discussing the idea, because we were getting asked about it all the time. I said to Sharon 'What's going on? Because if there's no more Sabbath I want to get on with my own thing again' and she came back and said 'Let me look into it.' Three weeks later I asked her about it again, and she said 'Oh, I still have to talk to so and so...' and I said 'Sharon, I ain't f***ing 21 any more, if we're going to do it I want to do it before I'm 70!' Time isn't on our side! So she made the call and came back and said 'Yeah, the record company wants another album.' I believe Rick Rubin is going to do it with us again."

Break Made In Metallica Murder Case

The Virginia State Police announced that they have found a forensic link between Morgan D. Harrington, who disappeared and was later found murdered following a Metallica concert in 2009, and the abduction of Hannah Graham earlier this month.

Police said on Monday that the arrest of 32-year-old Charlottesville, Va. man Jesse L. Matthew Jr. in the disappearance of 18-year-old Hannah Graham has lead to a significant break in the Morgan D. Harrington case with a new forensic link that investigators are looking into.

20-year-old Virginia Tech student Morgan D. Harrington of Roanoke, Va. disappeared from outside the John Paul Jones arena where she was attending a Metallica concert on October 17, 2009. Harrington's remains were found on a farm the following January.

Here is the Virginia State Police's statement: "For the past five years, the Virginia State Police has been aggressively pursuing the investigation into the disappearance and death of 20-year-old Morgan D. Harrington of Roanoke, Va. Last week, the arrest of Jesse L. Matthew Jr., 32, of Charlottesville, Va., provided a significant break in this case with a new forensic link for state police investigators to pursue. There is a still a great deal of work to be done in regards to this investigation and we appreciate the public's patience as we move forward.

"Anyone with new information concerning the Harrington investigation is encouraged to contact the Virginia State Police at 434-352-3467 or the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.

"Meanwhile, state police continues to dedicate the necessary resources to assist the Charlottesville Police Department through the course of its investigation and with their efforts to locate Hannah Graham. In fact, right now, the public's focus needs to remain on helping Charlottesville Police locate and bring Hannah Graham home."

Former KISS Songwriter Arrested For Child Pornography

(Radio.com) Stephen Coronel, a former KISS-affiliated songwriter, has been arrested for five counts of child pornography after authorities traced images back to his computer, The Daily Mail reports.

Coronel, whom was a band member with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley in their pre-KISS band, Wicked Lester, and whose songs were later used by KISS, is currently calling South Carolina his home, and saw sheriffs seize a number of electronic devices they claim hold evidence to his involvement in the sexual exploitation of a minor.

Beyond that, details are scarce at this time as to the exact nature of the crime and Coronel's involvement. Coronel still holds his involvement with KISS as his major claim to fame, with The Daily Mail pointing out that he still refers to himself on Facebook as "KISS-Multi-Platinum Songwriter."

"I have very close friends like [Black] Sabbath, who released a fantastic metal album [2013's 13] and went out on this huge world tour. They've been together longer than we have. Then you get [Iron] Maiden, then bands like Metallica, doing that type of process."

The Kinks' Dave Davies Announces New Album and Tour

Dave Davies, the legendary co-founder of The Kinks, has announced that he will be releasing his new solo album, "Ripping Up Time" on October 27th and he'll be launching a U.S. tour in November.

The new album was produced by Davies and David Nolte. Davies explains that 'Rippin Up Time' is about "a man's reflections of the past, his fears, anxieties and optimism about the present and hopeful expectations about the future.

"I had a lot of ideas in my head thinking about the past and how we started and the Kinks and my own life and the present and what's happening with my life now and concerns and worries, anxieties about the future.

"I suddenly had an image of all the times overlapping as if they're all in one place in my mind. I thought I'd just write it from the point of view of a dream. It's a mixture of emotions that I was going through as I was writing the songs, some would be happy or reflective or sad."

Davies also revealed that his son Russ Davies sings on two tracks, "In the Old Days" and "Through my Window". Dave had this to say, "It was wonderful working with my son Russ Davies and old friend David Nolte on this project and am really excited about the album." You can preorder the album here

Stevie Nicks Inspired To Tackle Addictions By Writing Song

(Classic Rock) Stevie Nicks recalls how writing a song about a drug-addicted actress led her to tackle her own addictions. The Fleetwood Mac star releases her new solo album 24 Karat Gold - Songs From The Vault on October 6. And one of the tracks, Mabel Normand, was written in 1985 after Nicks watched a documentary on the 1920s star.

Nicks tells Billboard: "Give Mabel Normand a special listen. Mabel was an amazing actress and comedian from the 20s, and she was a terrible cocaine addict. She eventually died of tuberculosis, but it was really her drug addiction that killed her

"She was in love with a famous director, who tried to get her off coke, and he was murdered. Rumour has it, drug dealers killed him. I saw a documentary of her in 1985, when I was at my lowest point with the blow. I was watching TV one night, the movie came on, and I really felt a connection with her. That's when I wrote the song. Less than a year later, I went to rehab at Betty Ford."

The Enid To Deliver A Seamless Story On Theatre Tour

(TeamRock Radio) The Enid have confirmed a run of UK theatre shows for early 2015 - and frontman Joe Payne has vowed the band will deliver a "seamless story" with a strong sense of context.

The performances will be based on upcoming classical album The Bridge, one of two releases planned for next year. Underpinned by founder Robert John Godfrey's compositions, it's also a return to roots for Payne.

He tells Prog: "When we first discussed an album of classical music, I insisted we perform it exclusively in seated venues. I grew up in the theatre and I wanted to return to that and put on a really extravagant show.

"We've made big developments since I joined in 2011, and I think the shows this year are the strongest the new generation of The Enid have ever had. But there's always a next step - and we're ready to take it."

The set list will be written in stone, he confirms. "It must tell a story. The show must run seamlessly - if a song doesn't fit the overall concept, it simply will not make the cut." Read more here.

The Datsuns Streaming New Album Online

(TeamRock Radio) New Zealand rockers The Datsuns' new studio Deep Sleep album doesn't come out until next week but TeamRock is giving fans an advance stream of the full album.

With members living in Stockholm, Auckland, London and Wellington, recording music isn't as straightforward as it might be, but The Datsuns gathered for ten days at Roundhead Studios in Auckland last January and recorded their new album, Deep Sleep.

"We're not f***ing around, says singer and bassist Rudolf de Borst. "We're all conscious of the fact that we don't live so close to one another, if we're together, we're going to make records.

"We knew we only had a few days to make this recording happen so we had a few things planned out in advance, a manifesto if you will. We knew we wanted to record analogue, hot to tape and that the sounds had to fit within certain sonic parameters: fuzz, minimal miking and overdubs. The song writing inspiration came from sci fi dreams and the spaces in between worlds, you get the idea. Five days later we had the bulk done. Our quickest and probably most fun record to make."

Hatebreed Want To Be The Ramones Of Heavy Music

(TeamRock Radio) Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta insists his band won't change direction to persuade haters to like them. He believes their body of work speaks for itself and there's no need to consider making any adjustments.

Jasta tells Metalship: "I want Hatebreed to be the Ramones of heavy music. We're not the most handsome band, we're not the most marketable band - but our songs are memorable.

"Everybody knows our name, our logo and at least a couple of songs. Even people that hate us know Live For This, Destroy Everything and I Will Be Heard. People that hate us know about us.

"So I say: don't f*** with the formula. Keep it how it is. We've been doing this 20 years and the formula's there; it works. People enjoy and love singing along."

Speaking hours after the theft had been discovered, singer Doogie White told Classic Rock: "I spoke to Michael this morning and he's very matter-of-fact about it all. Led Zeppelin Premiere Unreleased Version Of The Rain Song

(hennemusic) Led Zeppelin are premiering an unreleased version of "The Rain Song" as a preview of the upcoming expanded reissue of their 1973 release, "Houses Of The Holy", due on October 28.

"The Rain Song (Mix Minus Piano)" strips John Paul Jones' piano from the tune, allowing the guitar and vocal to breathe. "The Rain Song" is the sort of piece of music that Led Zeppelin could approach and do so successfully and so masterfully," said Jimmy Page. "This whole genre of the sensitivity, where it can sort of caress you, it's something that I've always been very proud of. The companion disc version is really a good blend of everything that's actually being played."

Released in March of 1973, "Houses Of The Holy" features legendary tracks such as "The Song Remains The Same" and "No Quarter" while also showcasing the continuing evolution of the band's signature sound with the reggae-tinged "D'yer Mak'er" and the funk jam "The Crunge". The album has been certified diamond by the RIAA for sales of over 11 million copies.

The seven unreleased tracks on the companion audio disc include rough and working mixes for "The Ocean" and "Dancing Days" that reveal a deeper look inside the recording sessions of these classic songs. Other standout recordings include the guitar mix backing track for "Over The Hills And Far Away" and a version of "The Rain Song" without piano.

Metallica Do Not Set Out To Please Their Fans

(Classic Rock) Lars Ulrich says Metallica never set out to please the fans when working on new material, insisting it would be impossible to make everyone happy. The drummer says that, instead, the band continue to challenge themselves without limits.

He tells Billboard: "Increasingly in our career, absolutes don't play a role. The minute we have a conversation about 'what does the fan want?' we stop ourselves, because it's a lost cause. If you put 20 Metallica fans around this table, they're going to tell you 20 different things.

"We really turn the conversation inward: 'What are we comfortable with? Is this something we feel we can get behind?' It's not about selling out, but whether it's selling our souls. As you lay in bed every night, you ask yourself, 'Do I feel good about the choices I made?'"

Brian Wilson, Weird Al, Conan and More Tribute George Harrison

(Radio.com) Getting Brian Wilson, the Strokes, "Weird Al" Yankovic, The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, Steven Drozd, The Killers' Brandon Flowers, and Spoon's Britt Daniels in one room seems like it'd be an impossible mission - but it happened Sunday night, all in the name of George Harrison.

At Los Angeles' Fonda Theatre, the late Beatle received a tribute concert from a wide range of musicians, who covered some of his greatest songs. Brian Wilson and Beach Boys' Al Jardine put their spin on "My Sweet Lord."

Yankovic sang "What Is Life," Brandon Flowers did "Got My Mind Set On You," Black Rebel Motorcycle Club covered "Art of Dying," and "Old Brown Shoe" was performed by Conan O'Brian-who dedicated last week on his show to Harrison, with performances from Paul Simon, Beck, Norah Jones, and Dhani Harrison.

These tributes to Harrison aren't coincidental: they were timed with the release of George Harrison: The Apple Years 1968-1975 via Capitol Records, out now.

Weezer Release Out Of This World 'Back to the Shack' Video

(Radio.com) In space, no one can hear you scream. Rock? Well, that's another question entirely. In Weezer's new music video for "Back to the Shack," the rock quartet takes their act to the moon for a low-gravity, high-octane performance of the first single from upcoming album Everything Will Be Alright in the End.

Amid self-referential lyrics from frontman Rivers Cuomo ("Maybe I should play the lead guitar and Pat should play the drums," he sings as drummer Patrick Wilson tosses and catches a floating drumstick), the four-piece says no to an oxygen-filled helmet and yes to the lightning strap as they bound around the moon's surface, but mostly stick to a straightforward performance of the chugging, guitar-heavy track.

After planting an American flag because America, a giant W for Weezer - the band's symbol - rises from the ground behind them.

Gene Simmons Doing In-Depth Interview With Dan Rather

(hennemusic) KISS bassist Gene Simmons sits down for an in-depth discussion with newsman Dan Rather on the latest edition of "The Big Interview" on AXS TV tonight, and a preview of the show is available.

Simmons discusses a variety of topics during the hour-long program, including his early days growing up in Israel, his move to America, and the father who abandoned the family when he was just seven years old, which inspired his decades-long fear of commitment and reluctance to have children.

As expected, the bassist talks about the 40-year history of KISS, and his business interests, including his own record company, restaurant chain, race horse operations and an Arena Football team.

"Gene Simmons has never been shy about delivering the straight truth as he sees it, and this episode of The Big Interview is no exception," said Michele M. Dix, AXS TV's senior vice president, programming and development. "But what sets this particular segment apart is Dan Rather's unique ability to dive head-first into his subject, setting the rock star bravado aside and cutting to the core of the man underneath the makeup and the carefully cultivated 'Demon' persona."

"The Woods" is one of my favorite songs, and I think we did a great version of it in this set. Rob did an amazing job of capturing the feeling that Michael's lyrics created in the original. It was always fun to play live because it is such a jam, and the guitar just goes crazy at times with Tom's fantastic lines weaving in and around the vocals and keyboard lines. It sounds so much like the original, it just blows my mind.

I wrote the main melody line by accident at a soundcheck one day on tour. I was just noodling around trying to set a delay program. The melody worked over the chord changes I was using by changing one note in the second line.
Michael asked what it was, and I said it was something that had just happened. We started playing it as a band, and the song was finished musically right there.

But what really makes me love the song is the lyric. Michael was moved by the mood of the phrase and the vibe of Tom's guitar riffs and created this incredible song. It is a perfect microcosm of Michael's lyrical style. It starts out very personal with the first verse: "I can see night in the daytime/Into the woods I quietly go/It takes all the strength I have in me/These are the woods the night of the soul"

That is an incredibly poetic image for me. It is also one of Michael's best themes; the idea of struggle between the opposing forces at work in our soul - beauty and grace versus shame and guilt. "Painful to see love without action/It's painful to see years of neglect/Aching to see all that they see/Still telling lies to the remains of respect"

But then the lyric takes a hopeful turn and shows us one of Michael's greatest strengths as a writer. He expands to a universal perspective and identifies the very reason we make art. That is not a small idea, and it is sung as a mighty declaration. Rob totally nailed it live.

"Creatures we are worth defending/It takes the right word said from the heart/Given to you without ending/Given to you the purpose of art"
I have always felt honored to be a part of this purposeful art. So much of contemporary Pop music is just about hormones and relationships. There have been a lot of bands who dug deeper, and there are always writers out there willing to go "into the woods." I applaud them all.

The song ends with an effortless swing from personal to universal in four lines. "Out of these woods will you take me/Out of these woods out of the storm/Sinless child can you save me/Oh guilty Man, freedom is yours."
And then, Tom's guitar takes us on a sweet journey until the original keyboard melody bookends the song for the finish.

If the chords and melody, and the bands arrangement had anything to do with Michael writing those lyrics, then I think we can all say "well done!." That may very well be the best thing about being in an actual band, and I miss that.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
