Mastodon, At The Drive-In, QOTSA Members Form Supergroup (TeamRock Radio) Members of Mastodon, At The Drive-In and Queens Of The Stone Age have teamed up to form the band Gone Is Gone. The band will release an EP this summer on their own label in conjunction with Rise Records/BMG - and they've issued a teaser of their track Violescent.

The supergroup consists of Mastodon singer and bassist Troy Sanders, At The Drive-In drummer Tony Hajjar, Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, and guitarist and keyboardist Mike Zarin.

Gone Is Gone have also outlined plans for their first live show - they'll play the Dragonfly, Los Angeles, on April 27, with tickets available from 10am PST on April 15 (Friday).

The project is the brainchild of Hajjar, who recruited Van Leeuwen and then began looking for a singer. Hajjar tells Rolling Stone: "When thinking of singers, a few came to mind, but Troy Sanders' voice and presence kept on coming up in conversations. Both Troys had always talked about doing something together, so it was an easy connection. Sanders flew in and tracked some demos to the finished music, and it went from there.

"Mike and I have had the privilege of being part of some amazing movie trailer campaigns and scored the game Splinter Cell: Blacklist together as well. Our goal is to be able to do more of this within this project." Read more and check out the song preview here.

Ace Frehley Streams New Song Featuring Paul Stanley (hennemusic) Ace Frehley has reunited with former KISS bandmate Paul Stanley for a cover of the Free classic, "Fire And Water", on his forthcoming all-star covers album, "Origins Vol. 1."

The guitarist is streaming the track ahead of the project's release on April 15. "I thought Paul did a fabulous vocal on it," Frehley tells Rolling Stone. "He jumped at the chance to do this because it's something that's outside of KISS and his character in KISS, and it gave him a chance to, you know, sing. With Paul, you usually think of him singing in a slightly higher register and on 'Fire and Water,' he's singing deep from his diaphragm, and it's a real cool vocal."

"I don't get a chance to sing those kinds of songs as often as I'd like," Stanley adds. "It's not like I'm learning Mandarin or anything like that - it's part of my wheelhouse - but it's just not something I get to record often. I thought it was very funny because Ace seemed blown away. And I'm thinking, 'I'm a singer and that's what I do.' I'm glad he was pleased with it." Read more and stream the song here.

Killswitch Engage Streaming RSD Song 'Define Love' (TeamRock Radio) Killswitch Engage have released an online stream of their track Define Love, which will be released as a limited-edition Record Store Day title tomorrow (April 16).

It'll be available as a seven-inch vinyl single in participating independent record stores, with the B side covered in artwork created by bassist Mike D, and a band logo stencil included in the pack.

Frontman Jesse Leach says of Define Love: "It's my critique on our attempts as humans to limit or restrict love. Whether it be political or religious agendas, love seems to be used as a way to manipulate people to think or act a certain way.

"Love is deeper than simple emotion or desire. It is an unexplainable spirit that defies our attempts to harness and understand it. True love, in my mind, is far greater than our feeble comprehension of it. We need not try to set any limitations on what defines love." Read more and stream the song here.

Flea Performs National Anthem At Kobe Bryant's Final NBA Game (hennemusic) Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea performed the national anthem at Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant's final NBA game on April 13.Bryant delivered an epic performance for his send-off with a 50-shot, 60-point night as the Lakers earned a 101-96 comeback victory over the Utah Jazz.

Longtime Lakers megafan Flea raved about Bryant before performing at the Staples Center on Wednesday. "I've watched, listened to or at least read about pretty much every game that Kobe Bryant played his entire career," Flea tells Rolling Stone. "And I see someone who put a lot of stock in discipline and work ethic and nurturing his creativity. I just have always respected him so much - even when he was young and arrogant and foolish and you know, arguably self-centered. He's always meant so much to me.

"I look at him as someone like, you know, Charlie Parker or John Coltrane or Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix, you know? He's been able to change and evolve and grow and be such a master of his craft. It's been great seeing him grow up, because he joined the Lakers when he was 17, and he's done so much for our city." Watch Flea's performance here.

"I'm struggling. No excuses. I want you, the fans, to know that I'm doing my best to get through these current tours. I will try my best to stay clean and finish these."

Craig reports he's going back on the medicine he was on for four years that helped him stay clean and insists he'll keep the Slaves (US) name alive "with select members." Read more here.

Bullet For My Valentine Won't Take Bring Me The Horizon Risk (TeamRock Radio) Bullet For My Valentine say they won't imitate Bring Me The Horizon and take a bold, new direction with their music. While frontman Matt Tuck praises Bring Me The Horizon for taking a creative risk and moving away from the heavier sound of their older albums, he says his band won't drop guitars for synths.

He tells Faster Louder: "I think of the era we grew up and the bands we listened to growing up, and I think we will always be us. I don't think we're going to do like Horizon - it's a very bold move and that comes with risks.

"I think when you start to put yourself in that position of evolving like they have over the last two records, what you do next time is a dangerous game to play. Thankfully, it's worked out for them well, and long may continue.

"But, for us, I think we're very proud of what we've achieved and what we've done - so if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it. We're going to evolve and things are going to change naturally, and that's great and that's what we encourage." Read more here.

Joe Elliott Reveals Secret To Def Leppard's Longevity (New Rock Times) Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott says the secret to the band's longevity is simply patience and refusal to be swept aside by the tide of bands which fit a popular short term trend.

When grunge exploded onto the music scene in the early '90s a number of more traditional rock bands were phased out or dropped. But Elliott says the key to Leppard's enduring success was 'perspiration'.

He tells Meltdown of the WRIF radio station in Detroit, Michigan: "What we did in the '90s was remember what we said to ourselves in the '80s. Bands like Reo Speedwagon, Foreigner, Journey and Styxx When we came along, there seemed to be a lot of bands from that '80s era that just I don't know They kind of gave up, or their record companies gave up.
"I don't think the bands ever gave up, but the industry gave up on them, and the new boys came along. We said to each other, 'One day, this is gonna happen to us. In ten years' time, there'll be the new boys coming along and they're gonna try to do to us what we apparently, supposedly did to the '70s bands.' And we said, 'We have to make sure that we don't let that happen. And even if it does happen, we just have to keep going until it comes back around.'"

It was the arrival of Guns N' Roses which began to muscle bands like Def Leppard off playlists but Elliott was determined not to chuck in the towel.
He went on: "Success, or just life in general, is like a wheel. As long as it's in motion, every single part of the wheel always ends up back at the top. So, yeah, Guns came along. When Guns kicked it in '92, we were still selling three nights out in every arena in the States with an album that was No. 1 for six weeks on the Billboard charts. And then in the mid-'90s, it got tough. And then towards the end of the '90s, we noticed that the grunge music started to sound happier; it wasn't all Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Nirvana." Gojira Tease 'Magma' Release (TeamRock Radio) Gojira have released a short clip teasing the release date for new material. They finished mixing the follow-up to 2012's L'Enfant Sauvage at frontman Joe Duplantier's recently built New York studio.

Now they've issued a short video for Magma, which will be released on June 17. It's not clear if Magma is the name of the album or a single. Duplantier and his drummer brother Mario previously revealed that many of the album's songs were in the works when their mother died.

Joe said: "The songs were half-written while she was sick. After she died, I still had to finish them. So one song was like, 'You're going to make it,' but the second verse is 'You didn't make it.'

"I felt physically, mentally exhausted. At the same time, though, the way it happened was beautiful. We were all around her. We had to cancel a few shows when she died, but it was very enriching at the same time. We learned a lot about death." Check out the video here.

Lande says: "The most important thing was to treat these songs with respect towards the original versions. My goal was always to think that the original artist would be honoured and find my version relevant.

"At the same time, my intention was never to try to compete with the original song and artist, but to make it a strong alternative version to enjoy." Read more and watch the trailer here.

Singled Out: Shiraz Lane's For Crying Out Loud Shiraz Lane released their debut album "For Crying Out Loud" today (April 15th) and to celebrate we asked lead singer Hannes Kett to tell us the story behind the title song. Here is the story:

When we started working on our debut album, we had a clear vision of what it would sound like and from day one we wanted it to be called "For Crying Out Loud".

We had a song called "The Cure" which we completely rewrote two weeks prior to the first scheduled recording sessions because it didn't sound like us. It might sound stupid & reckless to do such a thing so close to recording, but we had a vision we wanted to share with the world and I think this song sums up the message & the atmosphere/sound Shiraz Lane is all about.

I was struggling with the lyrics on this album, some came more naturally than others. I had so much to say, but didn't find the right words to express my thoughts.

Shiraz Lane is basically 5 peace loving guys wanting to change the world one song at a time, while spreading the message of Peace, Love & Harmony.

I do tend to write about the things I see and feel, things that touch every life form, about life itself. In the verses of the FCOL I point out our superficial way of living - we often forget what is truly important - we are all brothers and sisters, we are One. I believe in Humanity, I believe that if we stand as one we can truly make a change and heal Mother Earth instead of constantly abusing Her.

In the chorus I state the following: " We are the Cure, We stand as One, For Crying Out Loud, This can't go on, Out of the Dark into the Light, From here on out it's Do or Die, We are the Cure, We stand as One, For Crying Out Loud".

Is this the way we want our life to be? Is this legacy we leave behind? Is this the world we want our children & grandchildren to live in? We can still change the course of this sinking ship.

Peace, Love & Harmony,
Hannes Kett/Shiraz Lane

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here and learn more about the album right here!
