MTV Walls Off Free U2 Berlin Show

antiMusic reports: Oh the irony. Oh the boneheadedness. Oh the bad PR move. Someone thought it was a good idea to erect a wall around a free U2 concert staged to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Not such a good idea. Then again, you can say that about most of their prime time programming.

But at least MTV's excuse is better than the East Germans who erected the first wall because they were just trying to keep out all of the greedy capitalist from trying to avail themselves to the joys of communism. This time it was for "safety" reasons, according the Associated Press. Watch, they'll next try and play it off as being intentional and meant to be symbolic.

Here is part of the AP report: U2 returned to Berlin for a free mini-concert Thursday in front of the Brandenburg Gate, but the show was obscured from public view by a nearly 6-1/2-foot (two-meter) high metal barrier. "It's completely ridiculous that they are blocking the view," said Louis-Pierre Boily, 23, who came to Berlin even though he failed to get U2 tickets. "I thought it's a free show, but MTV probably wants people to watch it on TV to get their ratings up." - more on this story

antiMusic reports: Metallica may have killed hopes for a big four tour with Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax but Blabbermouth has caught wind of another mighty metal lineup that may be hitting the road. Here is what they had to say:

Slayer, Megadeth, Testament and High On Fire are rumored to be teaming up for a U.S. tour starting in February 2010.

Former Metallica bassist Ron McGovney is currently auctioning off his Fender Precision bass on eBay. McGovney, who preceded Cliff Burton in the band, says:

"I am including the original sales receipt which has my address that I lived at in Norwalk, California until 1987. The phone number on the receipt is the same as the one most Metallica collectors will recognize as being the same as the number on the original Metallica business cards.

PR reports: Nonpoint will be releasing "Cut The Chord", an acoustic digital EP on December 8th via their own 954 Records in partnership with Rocket Science Ventures / RED / Sony. The five song EP features acoustic renditions of Nonpoint classics "What A Day", "Circles", "Rabia", "Victim" and "Your Signs".

Formed in 1998, the hard rock quartet from Ft. Lauderdale burst on the scene with their major label debut, Statement, on MCA Records. Since then, they have sold nearly 700k albums and played over 1000 shows. On November 17, they will once again deliver hi-def music satisfaction for a wide array of music fans, when performances from Earth, Wind, & Fire, Carlos Santana, Billy Idol, and Marilyn Manson are released just in time for the holidays. In 1997, funk-soul collective Earth, Wind, & Fire hit the Montreux Jazz Festival stage in the midst of their In The Name Of Love album tour. Roger Daltrey Loses It In Cleveland

The Who reports: Roger Daltrey's voice gave out for the first time in the latter half of a gig at the House of Blues in Cleveland Tuesday night.

"I sound terrible," he said toward the end of the show. "I had a very bad night's sleep last night," he added. "This is what I woke up with."

An Evening with David Johansen

PR reports: David Johansen, who has enjoyed a prolific 35-year career, will be performing a unique selection of songs at Patriots Theater at the Trenton War Memorial on November 25 at 7 p.m. as part of the "On Patriots Stage - The Kaplan Series."

The special show, which has been titled "An Evening with David Johansen," will present the singer-songwriter side of this multi-faceted entertainer, featuring songs from the New York Dolls both old and new, his solo records with The David Johansen Band, Buster Poindexter, The Harry Smiths, and even a few choice covers.

Bachman and Turner Fighting For Bachman-Turner Overdrive Name

Jam! reports: Randy Bachman and Fred Turner fronted one of the hottest rock bands of the 1970's, selling millions of albums under the name Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

Now they're front and centre in a B.C. Supreme Court lawsuit in which Bachman's own brother and another former bandmate are suing the pair for using their own names.

Robin Bachman and Blair Thornton launched the lawsuit claiming Randy Bachman and Fred Turner signed away the rights to the Bachman-Turner Overdrive and BTO names in three separate contracts. - more details here

Third Eye Blind, Peter Bjorn & John, The Walkmen and More Rock Against Malaria

PR reports: RED Distribution has produced a benefit compilation for the non-profit organization Malaria No More. Indie Rocks! A Benefit Album For Malaria No More is comprised of 14 songs from artists including Juliette Lewis, The Walkmen and Youssou N'Dour, in addition to an exclusive unreleased live track from Third Eye Blind, and an exclusive cover track from Peter, Bjorn, & John. Benevolent Tomorrow Stream Entire New Album Online

We All Have Hooks For Hands Hitting The Road

PR reports: We All Have Hooks For Hands are packing the van and getting ready for a November/December cross-country tour in support of the November 17th release of their sophomore album The Shape Of Energy (Afternoon Records).

The Mercury Program Returns

PR reports: After a lengthy hiatus, Florida's The Mercury Program return to the musical forefront with Chez Viking, a seven-song CD/LP released by the band's new label, Lovitt Records, on Winter 2009.

Undoubtedly, The Mercury Program have established themselves as one of the most exciting bands who place a premium on intricate song craft and mesmerizing live performance. Formed in the summer of 1997, they have re-emerged with a bracing mix of angular guitars, rhythmic bass lines, jazz-influenced drumming, and ethereal vibraphones.

The Mercury Program first started as a three-piece outfit. Their first show was on New Year's Eve in 1998 at a friend's party in Chapel Hill. The Mercury Program soon recorded two 7"s with Boxcar Records including a split 7" with Versailles; soon afterwards, the band recorded their debut full-length, also on Boxcar. Critically acclaimed by the likes of print and web media alike, they supported the record with a brief East Coast tour, as well as several regional shows in the Florida area. In late 1999, The Mercury Program agreed to release their next two albums through Tiger Style Records. During this time, the band added an additional member, Whitney Travisano, and turned the trio into a more dynamic quartet. Road Fink

PR reports: Ninja Tune Records is excited to announce that acclaimed UK artist Fink will be performing dates in the US this coming December. In support of his latest album, Sort Of Revolution, the tour begins on Friday, December 4 at Spaceland in Los Angeles, CA, and will culminate with an intimate performance at New York City's famed Joe's Pub on Thursday, December 10. Kenny Gamble Releasing I Am An American: The Making of An Anthem

PR reports: In honor and loving support of our nation's veterans, legendary music pioneer and co-creator of "The Philadelphia Sound" Kenny Gamble is releasing a new DVD/CD commemorative package of his acclaimed new symphonic ode to patriotism, "I Am An American," on November 10, 2009 surrounding Veterans Day to help raise funds and awareness for battling homelessness among veterans.

It was three great nights for the band and for me personally it was very exciting to be back opening a new stadium on the site of the old Shea Stadium where we had played 44 years previously. Even more exciting because this time round you could hear us!
