Sauren Caerthai: I think metal has evolved enough that
we can begin to raise the bar of what's expected of musicians. As well,
I don't think having excessive musicians, playing louder, downtuning more,
or playing faster equates with being more brutal. It's the difference between
volume and intensity. One can turn up and play until they recieve a decible
reading of 180, but that doesn't mean that they have an intensity (or in
this case, brutality). In my humble opinion, Joey is the only redeeming
factor for that band. Of all the instrumentalists, he is the most proficiant
in his instrument by far. I know all too many guitarists and bassist who
can outplay any of the strings any day. The sophmoric, profanity laden,
base lyrics are nothing of note. The "percussionists" are nothing more
than a joke, considdering that slamming on a few drums on beats 2 and 4
adds little. And a sampler?! You need ONE person to operate a piece of
equipment that plays back pre-recorded sounds?! Now that, in my opinion,
is pathetic. I think this group is a retrograde of all the progress that
has been in metal so far. Were the rest of the band highly proficiant in
their instruments and simply were doing this as a musical expariment, I
might be more forgiving in my opinions, but this is ridiculous. I will
not deny that this is music, but I will say, however, that compared to
the rest of whats out there, this isn't music of high quality.

chimera). u do not neccasarily have to buy slipknot's music (thanks uncle
sam for that). i personally cannot recommend slipknot to anyone. they are
the the britney spears's of metal (although with much smaller boobs, ill
leave it at that, i know there are other differences chimera, youll learn
about them when you get into 5th grade) although they could classify them
in any genre and id still hate them. btw chimera, agreeing with the insults
people throw at you isnt cool. im gonna go look at porn now.

Dreamy Rover: Slipknot, nu-metal or not, sucks. It's
just their music & cheesy lyrics that make me say this. The fact that
they do music which has roots in metal doesn't make any better than what
they actually are: a band with people with really mediocre talent &
limited capability to make music that is good. None of the Slipknot songs
I've heard have made me think it's a kind of band that can grow. All their
songs & arrangements are alike, the style of the lyrics hardly changes
& the playing of the music is uninteresting coz the whole thing about
Slipknot is unimaginative. I personally would prefer a band like ROTTING
CHRIST for heavy & angry music.

They Call Me Mellow Yellow, Quite Rightly: Slipknot is nu-metal. I've always been
told the definition of nu-metal is metal put into a blender with gansta
rap and well crunched. Disturbed and System of a Down (in my opinion),
are not nu-metal. I once even saw a mention of Staind as nu-metal, but
I have to cringe painfully and point out that they're alternative. A lot
of you "true metalheads" have pointed out what you think best define metal,
and not being a metalhead . .I'll be sure to check them out with the best
intentions of grasping what metal is. Some of what is claimed to be metal
should be shoved in the rarely recognized "Horror" category of music. Yes,
you won't see it in your music stores, but there is a genre of music called
horror. Good example of what metal should be shoved into horror? Cannibal
Corpse. Now I suggest you all go listen to some cello rock (Rasputina absoultely
rules) and calm down. Side-note: . .preps do listen to Slipknot. Believe
me, I know enough that do.

Down and Disturbed are the best representations of nu-metal today anyway.
Both bands' sound is tighter, and they're lyrics much more imaginitive
and meaningful. The only time I can listen to Slipknot and not cuss at

is based in opinion. In my opinion Willie Nelson is the best extreme death
metal artists out there (eyeroll). Also, quality music isn't about taste,
but understanding. And the reason we take the stand against crap like this
is because music can have an influence upon culture. The fact that a talentless
shock-monkey like Eminem has become hailed as some hero of free speech,

just wanna say now that they are metal no matter what you say. They are
because in mine and many others opinions they are. Don't get me wrong they
may not be metal in your opinion and thats all good because everyone is
entitled to their own opinion. But remember one thing just because you
hate a band doesn't mean that they are not part of that genre, look at
creed how many people actually like that band and yet they are still considered

everyone's "better" (than slipknot's) bands dont exactly have deep enough
lyrics that you can swim in them, although slipknot's lyrics couldnt drown
a facedown sleeping baby. but if i want good lyrics ill go read poetry
(joking). lyrics arent the only factor in making a good song, although
in slipknots case it added even more holes to their music. although the
songs that people mentioned earlier (i.e. iron maiden, etc) are better
than the crappy band slipknot, they arent exactly shakespearian masterpieces.
listen to hallowed be thy name by iron maiden. very repetitive and not
that great in the lyrics department. instead of fighting now im gonna back
to the story. maybe if the conspiracy is true, slipknot will crumble. but,if
a tree falls in a forest and hits slipknot (or their backstreet boys alter-ego)
does anyone care?

stupid? Well, first, metal demands very high skillsmanship from the musicians
who make metal. Intricate, fast blazing solos, a concrete song structure,
experimentation, and over other things, TALENT. Take a look at Slipknot's
songs & their music. Absolute rubbish! I have given many reasons in
my posts why Slipknot don't quite come across as a decent metal band. Obviously
you didn't pay attention to any of it. U just saw that I'm slammin ur fav
band. Maybe sometime u should stop being a numbskull & read what I
said carefully. Slipknot's guitarists are a joke, their riffs are repetitive,
the lyrics, the presentation and song structures are just awful. Not something
a good talented metal band would do. And they never dare experiment. All
their songs are alike, content-wise and otherwise too. I could name a hundred
vocalists who can scream better, and bands who can play better, faster,
heavier than Slipknot. Metal has boasted of fine poetry over the years.
Slipknot's way of writing make it look like gangsta rap (not the style
of doing the songs, but the style the lyrics follow). Anyone can write
lyrics like those, let them try to write stuff like Blind Guardian, Iced
Earth, Iron Maiden or Borknagar. Let them try to do guitar work like Iron
Maiden, Iced Earth, Dream Evil, Falconer. Let them try to sing & scream
like Borknagar & the finest death/black/goth metal bands out there.
Let them bring out personal angst & anger out in a convincing and stylish
manner like Rotting Christ or Children Of Bodom. No, they can't do none
of that. Because they just lack the talent to be a good metal band. There
are your reasons. I hope u read them as well as understand them. Because
if u still go on carping about people just talkin bull$hit without anything
to back it up, who are 'haters' according to u, just ask urself one simple
question - why should a metalhead accept a below-average, unbelievably
lame band like Slipknot?
