Mainstream Music Today

Well here it’s another month already, and yes lately I’ve been way out in left field with my subject matter, but this time its all about what bonds us together, the reason we are here and that’s music; since I've been blessed by all mighty digital cable fairy, I’ve had the pleasures and displeasures of mtv2, mtvx, vh1classic rock and assorted other music channels. What I have noticed through careful study and analization, in my greenmuse jr chemistry set, I have come up with this theory, there are only about 5 bands in operation at this time in history.

Yes it is true; ponder this a bit, mudvayne, slipknot, and corporate avenger. All goofs in masks. Not much of a difference between the lot, sure some exchange their masks for makeup, but maybe it’s shame that bonds them in their brotherhood of loud powerchords and senseless yelling.  Next up my personal favorite, lame wannabe punk bands.  Yes here I’m donning the full riot gear of the punk police. Complete with crotch guard. There are so many of the out there only a few names stick out in my head. Green Day, blink-182,  sum41 and some other sum41 clones who I never made it through the video--a really horrible cover of “smooth criminal” by Mike Jackson. (That would be Alien Ant Farm –ed) out of all these fools I only have the minutest respect for is Green Day; lynch me if you will, but in the past years when punk wasn’t cool, before Blink was soaking the undies of little girls, Green Day was putting out albums, but lets face it they are to blame for this influx of pseudo punks, Blink, well I’m not even going to reiterate my thoughts on these people. But I will direct my flames towards sum41, I’ve actually heard people call this band “more punk than the Ramones” ugh well my problem with sum41 is, they sound and act almost like Blink and God knows we don’t need another Blink. Even the names sound similar.  But sum41 has a double whammy, not only bad punk music, but rapping ala Limp Bizkit. boy o boy our next group of the same is Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Staind, Godsmack, so called new metal ,I’m no fan of metal, but Motorhead they ain’t. All these bands are fronted by a gnarled elf of a man, who sweats a lot.

Music today lacks Kurt Angles three i’s; integrity, intensity, intelligence - also, greenmuses’s H.O.M.E  H= honesty, to the fans, and themselves 0= originality, yeah no ones truly original, but try a little harder.  M= meaning, words strung together forming a song don’t get you the M, heartfelt lyrics and a strong delivery get you that. E= energy, this ties in with the M, you cant express the energy behind a song if you don’t really mean it. Sure some of the bands mentioned have lots of energy but for the most part, misdirected and in some cases just plain foolish see mudvayne, slipknot etc etc.

Well it seems after my birthday, I’ve become a jaded old man but that’s how I see it and I don’t think I need glasses yet.
