Marilyn Manson, its the end of the line

IIts been a while since I wrote about a musical subject, so I thought it was about time to try my hand at it again, and today’s subject will nevertheless stir up some good conversations. So anyways this months subject is your favorite media whore and mine: Marilyn Manson.

I admit I do like a lot of his material, right up to “Mechanical Animals”. Let me tell you when I popped that CD in my player, I thought it was the musical equivalent of a roger Corman film and in case you don’t know who he is, he brought us so great films such as “Gunslinger” and the classic “Red Zone Cuba”. His films all had long scenes of nothing really going on, like 5 minutes of a guy smoking a cigerette. If you were ever an old mystery science theater fan, you know exactly what I’m speaking of. Needless to say I hated it. It was a blatant rip off of David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust”, but less entertaining.

Then a while passes and he craps out another album ”holy wood”.  Lets see it has a cute play on words and it sounds like his older albums, the music videos from this album look more like “the beautiful people” than “I dont like the drugs”.

But enough of the cd reviews. I want to look into the heart of the matter. Is he really as deep and artistic as he wants us to believe or just screaming, “look at me”? In my opinion at least, he did have some great ideas but anymore he should just give it up. He’s begun to rip himself off, which is a lot worse than ripping other people off. Maybe after the “Mechanical Animals” mishap, he tried to get his original fans back but I for one wasn’t duped into this scheme.

But for all his shortcomings, he has succeeded in playing the Satan for our media, when school shootings first broke out, who was blamed? That’s right, this evil evil man. Could his music really influence anyone to kill? Yeah, if they were mentally unstable in the first place perhaps. He’s become the favorite scapegoat of the religious right, the way kooky ones on TBN, I actually saw a program recently linking Manson, Harry Potter and Pokemon to the apocalypse! But you can only ride shock value so far and the bus of Manson’s fame is slowly reaching its final destination. However, I do see a promising future for him hocking stuff on infomercials. Picture it, Manson hocking nads hair removal products or skin refining crèmes or the greatest job for him will be, preaching on one of those crazy TBN shows how he saw the light after almost dieing on a binge of heroin and sex with chickens(every one knows that rumors gotta be true).

Well that’s it for this month. happy holidays from the one that cares if spongebob sqaurepants is taken off the air.
