I think they should rename this series
of CD’s, Now that’s what I Call shit! Because, it’s about as far away from
worthy music as you are gonna get. Maybe to a 13 year old wanna-be cheerleader
this is music, but to most this is bland, pedestrian crap!
Yeah, I know you expected me to say that,
huh? I’m about as predicable as these CD’s I know but please indulge me
for a couple minutes and we will explore this masterpiece of crap together.
You know you are in trouble when the first
song is by Nelly. Ok, track forward… done..
Next…
N.O.R.E. - Nothin', wonderful a generic
rap song…
Next…
Gangsta Lovin' by Eve/Alicia Keys… yawnnn….
Give me Salt N’ Pepa
Next…
Feel It Boy by Beenie Man/Janet …. Lame!
Next…
Dirty Vegas’ “Days Go By” – ok, I hear
this song far too many times on TV trying to hock products. Fast forward…
Next…
Kylie Minogue - Love At First Sight… not
bad for mainstream dance music that no one will remember 3 months from
now.
Next..
Shakira’s Objection (Tango) – wait a minute
here… this is a hit song? It’s actually kinda cool because it’s different
but music with a polka sound and an accordion will never be really cool.
Next…
No Doubt/Lady Saw ‘s Underneath It All
– there is no doubt that this song just flat out sucks! Gwen, what
in the hell happened to you?
Next…
Jennifer Love Hewitt’s BareNaked – PEEEEEAAAAAALEEEEEESSSSSS!
Is this j.lo? Boring, sugary, generic pop music?? Must be an actress putting
out an album.
Next…
Vanessa Carlton’s “Ordinary Day” – Think
Jewel without the songwriting talent.
Next…
Dixie Chicks’ Landslide – When are people
going to learn, you can’t cover Stevie Nicks. This isn’t as bad as Courtney
Love’s butcher job of “Gold Dust Women,” but with Stevie’s distinctive
voice replaced with generic chick country pop vocals, this doesn’t work
at all. I want to hear Motorhead cover this song, now that
would be cool!
Next…
Aaliyah – “I Care 4 U” – “singing police,
singing police…..” she’s using 20 notes to sing a one syllable song…
Why can’t this trend just die. Give us some real R&B vocalist like
Diana Ross and Aretha!
…you still here… this isn’t torture enough
for you? We’re almost done, hang in there.
Ginuwine’ “Stingy” - damn, did Aaliyah
get a sexchange or did Boys II Men reunite? I haven’t heard this
much over-singing since the American Idol tryouts.
Next…
Norah Jones – “Don't Know Why” -
much better vocally, but the voice can’t save a weak song.
Next…
Chad Kroeger/Joesy Scott – Hero -
I admit I liked this song the first 323,678 times I heard it but
it’s wearing a bit thin right about now.
Next.
Hoobastank – “Running Away” Cool, I didn’t
know that Incubus had a new ballad out!
Next…
Coldplay – “In My Place” – I know people
love these guys and the new album is actually pretty damn good but this
song is getting a bit old and just my thoughts but they could have picked
a better single. This one just doesn’t grab you like some of the other
tunes on the new CD.
Creed – “One Last Breath” - “With
Arms Wide Open… My Own Prison…. One Last Breath…” The Creed
power ballad epic continues.. Come on I keep waiting to hear Stapp
sing… “Jeremy Spoke In…. Class….Today…” I admit, I really did like
the Human Clay CD but this one is an utter disaster. Not one great track
on it. Fame has caught up with Creed and they can’t even do a decent second
rate Pearl Jam any more. What has the world come to?
Our Lady Peace – “Somewhere Out There”
- This is Our Lady Peace??? What in the hell happened?
Hey, it’s a cool song and all but it’s a lot more mainstream and poppy
than I’m used to. I haven’t heard their new CD so I don’t know if
this is their new direction or not. I like it but it takes a bit
getting used to.
Bon Jovi – “Everyday” I’m rollin on the
floor, how in the hell did this band remain so popular. They are the ultimate
in cheese. ..
“I’m a cowboy… On a steel horse I ride…
I’m wanted… for bein’ lame… wanted… for bein’ lame.” “Bon Jovi’s
like Bad Medicine… lame lyrics coming you’re way….” “Bon
Jovi used think they rocked. When MTV stopped Vh1 would play the songs
all day… was tough… Then Jonny cut his hair a---way, tried
to act.. but came back to play… it’s tough, oh tough… we’ll held on, for
oh so long.. hope this trend would end it’s run… we still got Bon Jovi
and that’s a lot… for Lame they give it their tops….. oh we’re half
way there…. ohhhh livin’ off our hair…. Take my photo, I’m posin’
like Cher…. ohhhh Livin’ off our hair!!!”
That’s it and that’s not what I call music.
Let the flaming begin!

i agree with everything you said EXCEPT the thing about hoobastank... yeah they sound like incubus but they're still a really cool band and their cd is great

well, at least i like dixie chicks. its actually about the quality of your voice and the way it blends to the melody of your music that matters and not its being cool, merely because your friends call it...funky funky yo yo!!!

Well.. some of the songs on the cd are kinda dumb, but on this cd i likke our lady peace, coldplay, creed, hoobastank, chad kroeger and joesy scott, and norah jones and vanessa carlton's songs i am into music anyway so I guess that is y i have so many favorites I guess every song is unique in its own way, thanx

Is it me or do all Kylie Minogue songs sound the same??
Posted by RRocky ( I added another "R" to my name so I can be "cool and hip" like Nelly and Christina Aguilera.:
It's getting hot in here so take off all your clothes??? and this is targeted to kids??? Dixie Hicks butchering Landslide...very sad. When I first saw that Sideshow Bob-look-alike guy from American Idol, I thought he was a girl. I cannot wait for the 12th volume.

I just recently heard a pop remix of The Dixie Chicks' "Landslide". I assume that that's the version on this NOW CD. In that case, that version does suck ass. The version I'm used to hearing is a straight bluegrass version, which I think is pretty cool.
Posted by penny:
why would the NOW people sell a CD of songs that you get sick of hearing on a radio, its like stuffing your face with burgers, youre bound to puke. I mean its ok to listen to a song like once, but MTV and radio, are so oversaturating it.

You know, in one of the NOW series, Justin Guarini from American Idol was listed as a HIT ACT! I can't believe that crap! How did he get a hit. and the song was a remake of a song by Aretha or one of those ole' R&B singers!

I read this shyt everyday in homeroom. It saves me from speaking to (or hearing from)stupid people who like the NOW stuff. Just thought I'd get that off my chest.

I'd say Coldplay are trying to be like U2 more than Radiohead. Plus I tuned in for a glimpse of the Billboard awards and saw that Scott Stap either got fat or was stung by a bee because he looked bloated!

Well, since the first thirteen or so tracks are just generic disposable R&B/pop, I don't really have much to say about them. But what I find interesting is that the rock bands at the end are mainly imitations of more groundbreaking artists. You've got Hoobastank trying to be Incubus, Coldplay trying to be Radiohead, and worst of all, Creed trying to be Pearl Jam. I've even thought of OLP as sort of a Canadian Smashing Pumpkins. Maybe on the next one they should add John Mayer trying to be Dave Matthews, Godsmack trying to be Alice in Chains, and the Vines trying to be Nirvana. Not to say I don't enjoy some of those bands, but this lack of true originality in image/sound is a little disturbing.

No Mountain it would have been nice if they did something new with the new cd instead of rehash their rehash of pearl jam. My girlfriend is a diehard Creed fan, don't ask, and she was disappointed with the new one too, thought is was a little lacking. If they put songs that came anywhere near "Are You Ready," "What if" and "Higher" on Weathered it would be a different story but that cd was really week. Don't tell me Bullets even comes close to the filler on Human Clay and MOP.

what a horrorshow of musical atrocity. They did not even pick the better pop fluff out there. I do love Coldplay and actually think In My Place was a good single though although not my favorite on the album that honor is reserved for "The Scientist"

How about trying to forge their own sound in the post-grunge scene like bands such as Silverchair and Days of the New have been able to.
Posted by Mountain:
I like how you dissed creed's latest cd when it has stuff that isn't power ballad material. So what the hell do you want them to do instead, make polka music? God damn.
Posted by VampireRyan:
Every one of these cds stinks! I agree with Mr.Huh. I actually kinda wonder what would happen if the band fired Gwen and got a new singer who would go back to their old sound. My suggestions are Pat Benatar and Free Dominguez. OLP sold out too. Hero is good for the first 10000000 times you hear it, Aaliyah is overated, Eve is worthless, and Vanessa Carlton is Tori Amos and Jewel in one diseased package. Although Hoobastank are OK (I say that mainly because they have a nice live show). I saw em at a festival.

I have to say that you butchering Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" and "Livin' On a Prayer" was totally unnecessary. Those songs are some of the few good songs that they have managed to squeek out. Also, No Doubt was good back in the days of Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn because there was some genuine intelligence and creativity put into those songs. The new album is mindless sell-out shyte though. Gwen Stefani has become a fascist dictator of her band.

Well, since you dissed "Now 11", you probably won't get much real flaming, though I disagree on some songs. If anybody's gonna get flamed, it'll probably be me. Here it goes: I've hated Our Lady Peace ever since "Star Seed", so it's no surprise that I wouldn't like anything else they come out with. We're all sick of Chad/Josey's "Hero", but from the first time I heard it, I thought it sounded like the generic butt rock movie soundtrack fodder that it is. I've got no love for The Dixie Chicks, but I actually don't mind their version of "Landslide". The bluegrass thing just works for me. But yeah, I'd love to hear Motorhead do it, too. And I've never liked No Doubt either, but I've been able to tolerate two of the three singles ("Underneath It All" and "Hella Good") I've heard from the new album so far. ("Hey Baby" is a total piece of shyte.) I don't see where "Underneath It All" is any worse than anything off of "Tragic Kingdom", unless the version on "Now 11" is different from the one I'm used to hearing.

I agree with everything, but I noticed that you said you hadn't listened to OLP's new album. Give it a try. It's a huge departure from what they have done in the past, which could be a good thing or a bad thing, but I really enjoyed it. Four great albums in a row (in my opinion, and yes I know they have released five) is a great feat, so give them a whirl.
