dude, your comepletely wrong on half the things you say in this interview, to say one, is about "There's No I in Team" that song (like all the other songs on both albums) was written from something that actually happened, the story behind that is that Adam Lazzara of TBS was having an "love affair" with Jesse Lacey's (of Brand New) girlfriend. first of all, Post Shave Healer is NOT a song on Tell All Your Friends. Second of all, i dont hear any whining when i listen to TBS. they are the greatest band EVER! wow. where do i start. the opinion of someone so uninformed as this $h!t for brains shouldn't mean cr@p. tasteless bastards like this queer are the reason why the many genres of punk music we love are so underappreciated. first, taking back sunday could fall under almost any genre of music except 'pop' (and hip hop and all that $h!t of course). second of all they are from long island new york. third, thursday is 3 days before sunday. fourth, the track list are out of order. i could go on forver correcting wrong analogies of what the music sounds like but id go crazy before i finished. no, this 'emo kid' doesn't want to kill his 'peer'. he slept with his best buddy's girlfriend; he messed up and he knows it. if you did your reasearch you would find that he is the lead singer of brand new. your damn right this band is something to identify with. tbs is the greatest band i have heard in my life. and for the love of god, did you ever think of the gun as a metaphor. if you actually listened to the disc and ALL the lyrics you would find lots of them. that being said, tbs is an amazing band, and fans of punk, punk rock, post punk, indie, hardcore, emo, alternative rock and the like could easily enjoy this album. so tell all your friends about this album if for some obscene reason they dont have it already. check out their new album, its not as good as this one but its still amazing. im out

taking back sunday is amazing. i love their style. i love the way they make their songs. i love the way the write their lyrics. i do not think that they are gun-crazied lunitacs, but teenagers trying to express how they feel. guns have become a major part of our society, and they feel that people can identify with them so they use them in their lyrics. they are an amazing band!

Taking back sunday was good with John. Without him, they blow. AND they still play Cute Without the E,(prolly their biggest/best song). Which has nothing to do with any of the people left in the band. It was a song John wrote to Jesse from Brand New.

I think it's funny how many comments are on here. People bickering back and forth about whether they are good or not. Honestly, if you don't like them why comment? Anyway, it's also kind of ironic how I'm complaining about these comments yet leaving one myself. So I'll just say I love taking back sunday..but I agree that their first album is probably the better of the two. I just wanna say..beginning of Bonus Mosh Pt. 2 sounds awesome..favourite part "But can't you, can't you feel it rolling off your lips, Tensing up your shoulders, C'mon say it" but honestly, who cares what I think? i'm out.

i think that taking back sunday is a very good band and you have no clue what the f^ck your talking about. I COULD CARE LESS WHAT THEIR GENRE IS! Haha you guys are all so so stupid...Getting all worked up over an overrated band...Hell Yes "Tell all of your friends" is a great cd but the problem there is TBS cannot beat it i mean whats the point in having your best cd being your first cd? I listened to The enitre new Cd Before a month and half before it even came out (its still not out) and it sucks for three reasons Reason 1. No John Nolan He was the backbone of TBS and the reason why the lyrics were so great not adam..this new guy fred or whatever blows a$$ he trys to be sad and it just doesnt work you cant beat john nolan... Reason 2 Michelle nolan Shes for one is so effin hot and number too shes the reason why TBS became so bad. i love how only those two can do something so amazing like that... Reason 3. they becamoe generic and becoming "radio Friendly" they try to keep the same kinda thing by trying to have alot going on at once but everything just seems to bleed right through and just shows how wasteful of an album this is Adam Hes got a great voice and can write some pretty amazing lyrics but at the same time if you ask me hes full of crap..Jesse Lacey (most amazing guy ever besides claudio and ace) even points it out in one of his songs. i wont tell you it if you cant figure it out but it fits adam cuz adam is a self center douche...just read their bios on their websites... Music is a form of expression so it's really not cool to bash emo. But I do wonder what makes these kids so angry. I only listen to two emo bands; Brand New and Saves the Day. I do think that the violence and anger in the music is quite creative. When someone is dumped or cheated on he/she is usually angry, thus yielding angry sentiments. But I do wonder why dudes in emo-bands are always mad. I wish they would have some more happy songs, like Saves the Day's Nightengale, the first positive song in 3 albums prior,but the music is still good. Taking Back Sunday is NOT pop-punk. First of all, it's not really punk at all... it's more Indie (or Indy, whichever you prefer). Second of all, John Nolan's new band, Straylight Run, is not terrible; just listen to "Mistakes We Knew We Were Making". Finally, Taking Back Sunday isn't about violence, or being whiny, it's about realizing that GIRLS suck and relationships suck. And if you're a guy who's ever loved a girl and lost her (either by choice or not) then you know why it's hard to ever love again and why it's always in your head. 'Cute Without the E' is a good example when John says "Why can't i feel anything from, anyone other than you" - which means why are you the only one that makes me feel this way? Taking Back Sunday is deserves more attention than they got, and they were on the verge of stardom before John left. After he did they even appeared on Conan. In my opinion there are three great bands on the Indie scene: Taking Back Sunday (with John and Adam), Brand New (with Jesse..john's best good friend), and Northstar (from down south). Take this for what it is. It's the TRUTH.

TBS is not that regular emo like Dashboard Confessional. They have a more emocore feel to them, and I hate you, John Nolan, for leaving Taking Back Sunday ..I know you left because you weren't the lead singer, and his band, Straylight Run, is nowhere as good as TBS. The song "There's No 'I' In Team" is a response to Brand New's "Seventy Times 7" and it's not saying that Jesse screwed up, it's saying that John screwed up, "I can't regret, can't you just forget it", "You never knew, well I never told you, everything I know about breaking hearts I learned from you." Taking Back Sunday isn't as great without John, Straylight Run kicks ass.

I adore Taking Back Sunday, One of the most greatest emo bands I've herd. I can't wait until their new album "Hence" comes out, evert song on this album I fell in love with. Talk about emotion, I love the lyrics they say eveything I wish I could say after being heartbroken, and yeah it IS a metaphore.... Obviously the reveiwer of this CD doesn't have a soul or the creative ability to realize a metaphore when he hears one. For the sake of repeating the poster "Ashes to Feonix" hit the nail on the head. TBS isn't a band for everyone I'll admit. In order to like them you must have a appreciation for a band that GET THIS...PLAYS AND WRITES ITS OWN MUSIC! So if your one of the millions who runs out and buys the "Newest, greatest" CD from Brittany Spears or Justin Timberlake or any other crappy bad that gets more attentionn than other talented bands then this CD is NOT for you. I love Taking back sunday. and I do agree, the piano ballad was a little bit of a rip off, but still; well placed in the music. Right Now sucked dick anyway. but you're obvious an idiot when analyzing the lyrics. "Best friends mean I pulled the trigger, best friends means you get what you deserve." obviously its a metaphore. he doesn't want to kill his friend. He's saying his bestfriend screwed up and had to answer for the consequences...yet he himself screwed up by being the one to hand out the consequences...and actually the song somewhat of an apology, while expressing his own anger about the situation. music uses metaphores, analogies ect... its called creativity, you don't take everything a singer says literally. in conclusion, since were talking about guns, if I were you, I'd get a GUN and shoot myself.

I love Taking Back Sunday and I'm not homicidal. They use gun related terms metaphorically. And really what is music without metaphors? It is definatly one of few albums that I let play all the way through. Please have somebody with GOOD taste re-write the review

They show their feelings...and you know as well as I do that we all have times when we'd like to use the gun. The song by brand new "seventy times 7" is about how his friend from tbs slept with his girlfriend. The song "no i in team" by tbs is apologizing to jesse from brand new. If you listen to "seventy times 7" then "no i in team" it makes so much sense.

Is refering to jessie the lead singer from Band New, they were fighting over a girl and was betrayed by his best friend (jessie). As funny as the review is, I just can't agree. I personally think the CD is great. Since there's no official Australian release, I went to great lenghts to purchase this CD after my initial downloads of 'Cute w/o the E' & 'Your so last summer'. Music for a young me & I enjoy it. If the lyrics sound silly, then you certainly don't understand a 21st Century 20 year-old. This is an album which a few my age will remember & describe as 'breath-taking'. So when my teenager brat boast about a kick-ass album with fresh & original lyrics that will blow my mind, I won't find those words special because it doesn't apply to me or I'm not on that wavelength. Also the guitar riffs & chord progressions which the brat thinks of as brilliant, is actually not too different than my Taking Backing Sunday album. Yes, stab a man in the heart & he will die. Hell, even Marilyn Monroe still looks good, she'd just need to love a few kilos, get a tan, and step into some modern Vicky Secrets. My opinion all just a concoction of my tv-routed brain, so don't argue with your mom just 'cause I said so. GO BUY THE CD NOW!!!! Otherwise non-believers will ruin it or before tomorrow renders TBS passe. I like to enjoy the high while I'm peaking.

Those who feel that TBS's lyrics are disturbing, evidently are not educated enough to grasp the concept of a metaphor. It's unfortunate that theyr ignonorance will come in the way of potentially loving an awesome band. Or perhaps it scares them that when they listen to the music, it expresses emotion that they have tried to hide for so long. Freakin' Kids.....Pop isn't just Boy Bands or Brittany Spears....It simply means a song with a concise song structure, and/or a hook, and/or a melody......Some of the most experimental and/ or influential bands in history have been pop or some form of it.....The Beatles, The Cure, The Ramones, The Smiths, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Pixies, The Misfits, Devo, The Buzzc*cks, Nirvana, Husker Du, Nick Cave, R.E.M., The Flaming Lips, and on and on.......musical terminology isn't whatever genre Hot Topic files it under.....do a little research....you'll hear some crazy words like "Motown, Merseybeat, Dub, No-Wave, Post-punk, industrial, Psychadelic, Rock-a-billy, Folk, Ragtime, Free-Jazz," and millions of other words you won't hear on the Vagrant Records website....don't be scared of them....it just means that people listened and cared about music before you were born....not such a bad thing.....

And the way their songs dramatically shift from mellow to loud and emotional is what makes them so interesting. listen to the album a few more times and it'll grow on ya... everyone can find at least something on there to relate to. it was this cd that converted me away from eminem and nelly and all that other mainstream crap out there.

Sometimes we have to look beyond the lyrics..and that is where the beauty of these songs lie. i love tbs!! the album rocks- anybody that has feelings can relate to something on there. i encourage everybody to take a closer look to the lyrics and music cuz it's a lot a lot deeper than just guns. and they're definitely not screaming just cuz they can- if u think that then think again. take a look at the emotion they put into all their work. i think it's amazing. however "bad" you may think tbs is you really have to admire them for being angry but still poetic. for example "you have a silly way of keeping me on the edge of my seat". the first time i put this cd in my player i was hoooked!!

Not to be redundant, but TBS is one of the most under-rated emo bands of this decade. If your opinion is so against TBS's lyrics that hint towards crime and teenage angst, then focus your writing on more delirious music like Eminem, who repetively raps about killing everyone except his daughter. That, in my opinion, is something you should be writing about. Being as Eminem is one of the most successful artists of the 21st century. And his radio play and t.v. access, highly surpasses TBS's. The select few who own the beauty of knowing TBS's music are the one's effected by their lyrics. Which aren't all as troublesome as you point out. My favorite lyric of all time happens to be one of TBS's, "And the truth is, you could slit my throat. And with my one last gasping breath, I'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt." The honesty and love that rings thru his voice emits more emotion than any gun could ever possible create. As for the rest of the population, that is so consumed with mainstream music, they strain to hear much more "wholesome" and "legitimate" lyrics such as, "I'm a slave for you." and "You find me in da club, we be making love." Which would you rather promote? Teen pregnancy or juvenile misconduct? Either way, your screwed. But atleast TBS hasn't invaded every radio station with their "disturbing lyrics". When you next find yourself at the brink of writing another biased review, don't.

i dont really have alot to say about taking back sunday in particular.. i have more to say about the label that the sound of their band, and others like them, has garnered the whole label of pop punk.. i think.. should be thrown down a flight of stairs and out a window.. TBS and other emo bands have been called pop-punk when they dont resemble the sounds pop or punk..the fact is that the two genres of pop and punk.. could not be farther from each other.. the smooth harmonies that boy bands strived to accomplish are polar opposite to the thrashing verses of punk rock.. if we are going to catorgorize our bands like we do.. then we need to learn what an individual band sounds like.. and we need to learn the difference between the sounds of the genres that we are going to put bands under

Sorry that last one got posted twice. I just had one more thought. Really, to write a good review, I think a reviewer should be able to not the positive and negative aspects of an album. I don't think there has ever been a "perfect" or "completely wrong" album ever. A talented reviewer should have enough experience in his or her genre to be able to write a well-roudned review.

oka first off, I'm not a HUGE fan of TBS who's going to whine at a reviewer because they don't absolutely love them. but COME ON...when reviewing an emo album...maybe you should have someone who does enjoy emo enough to understand it review the album. I mean, this review starts off with the reviewer stating the few reasons why he thinks emo sucks, before he even gets to any of the music he's about to review. That's just dumb. Obviously the reviewer has no inclination to interpret lyrics beyond the basics of lyrics such as blink 182 (not a dis). he seems to get mad at TBS for really wanting to "fire a gun at somebody." Moron. If he'd bothered to look any deeper he'd probably realize the symbolism of 'control' that the lyricist is choosing to identify with a gun ( avery powerful symbol of control). I think that Taking Back Sunday is the greatest band there is. People need to express their emotions and if you don't "identify" with the album then don't listen to it, and don't criticize it. If they were the next Columbine shooters, I don't think they would be putting lyrics such as "best friends means I pulled the trigger" on the CD. This kind of music is the music that gets "teens" through situations, so you should be glad for that.

The person who wrote this article can be compared to the tin-man from The Wizard of Oz. It's apparent that you, along with the tin man, do not have a heart. Obviously you can't get into the music if you don't know what the artist is feeling, and I am more then positive that thousands of heart broken teenagers on the verge of insanity find their calm in this "loud whining".. I hate critics.. you share your opinion on what you hear but you don't care to take anything from the lyrics. hm, i think that anyone that just calls these lyrics whining needs help. The words speak out to so many people, because alot of what they say can relate to others'. just because theyre singing about a gun doesnt mean theyre going to become the next serial killer. They use the gun in some phrases to symbolize how depressed or upset they are. so you can go lick a nut:)

Look deeper into things. When they say "disturbing" things, like killing someone, look past the words. I dont think its necessarily the action their talking about more the raw emotion. As far as the review goes...First of all, Thursday comes three days before Sunday, not two. Second of all, the band is from Long Island. And third of all, the tracklisting you have up is not the actual CD's tracklisting; It's got all songs from the album, in the wrong order, plus a few songs that aren't on the album. As far as the opinions expressed in the review or the comments...Everyone has a right to their opinion. It's the reviewers job to say what he thinks of the album. He's allowed to not like it. He's allowed to compare it to any other band or refer to it in any genre. I know 'pop' is supposed to be a dirty word, but there's nothing wrong with it. Pop just means the melodies are catchy and hook-y, not that it's a boyband. Anyone who's offended by the term 'pop' is most likely either a scenester that practices 'underground trend pop' or 14 years old. And yes, TBS does have some great lyrics, but the violent imagery aren't any of them. I'm partial to words in the breakdown parts of "you know how i do" and "you're so last summer," as well as the chorus of "timberwolves".

I think the blend of pop and screaming go together almost so well it hurts my insides enough to cut them open with a knife mentioned in an eminem song. hmm...well i don't know if im a lil behind the times coz ive only been listening to TBS for about six months so yeah..i don't know too much about them or anything...im from australia! thats my excuse, but seriously, they are very very VERY talented boys!There music gets better everytime you listen to it and i don't think you need to want to go around shooting people to be able to relate to their music! One thing i like about their music is the way in most songs it works up to a kind of 'climax' towards the ending! i know you mentioned that in a not so positive way but i think they have an edge on a lot of other bands similar to them coz of there unique sound...now im just babbling on so i'll just leave it at that!:)

Like you say you gotta look deeper its not necessary disturbing but if you know the background behind the song its much better its about how Brand New and guys from Taking Back Sunday are best friends if you listen to brand new they battle back and forth with lyrics in their songs but particularly "There's No I In Team" the song is about how Adam slept with the guy from brand news girl and he's talking about their relationship their was bad blood between the two bands when that was written but there sortve friends again now DL "Seventy Times Seven" By Brand New and if you listen to the song particularly after about 2:00 it starts up into something pretty deep....in conclusion again TBS rocks..peace Rich

These guys are very talented, and this is a very good album with great melodies and songwriting, and raw emotion. However, I have to agree with the reviewer, some of the lyrics are WAY too distrubing, including that "Best friends means I pulled the trigger part." That's the main thing I dislike about them, the fact that they end a lot of their songs repeatedly screaming a disturbing line like that. I don't know what kind of problems these guys go through but it seems like nothing can be THAT serious. Overall, this is a good album, I'd give it a higher rating than 2.5, but some of the lyrics are hard to stomach.

Well for one the guy who critiqued this album is a shallow fool who stereotyped Taking Back Sunday as another one of those whiny bands his complete analysis of the album could not be anymore wrong first off by calling them a pop punk act try looking deeper into the lyrics before saying there just trigger happy about killing people in actuality its a fantastic album the name of the album itself aswell as the title of songs give away that this band has incredible incite their lyrics are amazing and kids everywhere can relate to them Adam Lazarra is one of the most creative writers on the scene with putting hidin meanings throughout the whole albums each lyric is its own simile,metaphor, or personifacation to life for example in the song "You're So Last Summer" the lyric "with my one last gasping breath i apologize for bleeding on your shirt" there lyrics are chilling to the bone and take from it what you will but you have to look deeper and not just judge it by whats on the outside in conclusion whoever reviewed this band is a complete moron and deserves to shot faced down across my floor HAH and for anyone who wants to buy the album its great this band is only getting bigger from here - Rich
