2000: Another dismal year for music?
12-04-00 Holiday

My vote for the best of 2000?  It’s not Gore, and it’s not Bush, and it’s not even Nader.  It’s not even an album.  It’s the spirit of the industry.  The kids have exploded this year, the rocking masses have awakened, and there’s rock to be had finally again for anyone who wants it.  Styles, fads and genre names come and go, but rock and roll is always there, and lately we haven’t had to even dig for it.

On my trips to the record store over the past few years, I have been finding myself more and more going back to just fill in the gaps in my record collection, rather than purchasing many new releases.  The “thug” rock that’s been dominating the scene for the last three years, while some of it is good, just doesn’t always connect with me.  (Don’t even get me started on the Britney Spears’ and boy bands of the world. )  I am a white blonde skinny assed chick from the Midwest who listens to the “Pretty in Pink” soundtrack in its entirety at least once every two weeks.....still.  I love and adore metal, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t even begin to step into Fred Durst’s shoes and even have a smidgen of a clue of where he’s coming from.  He’s found his niche, and filled it well.  Kudos to him.  Say it’s because I’m a girl, whatever, I don’t care.  I am just not crazy about it.

Bands like Monster Magnet, Type O Negative, the Foo Fighters and Collective Soul were the only thing that the mass media was giving me that was on the front rack for me in the nineties.  Everything else, well, I had to order it myself.  I know I could order it off of the internet, but I have this little thing about supporting the local stores that service my area, no matter how lame they may be.  Still, there’s something wrong about getting laughed at when you show up at the counter at your local record store, and the guy behind the counter with fifteen piercings and a mohawk, says “Whoa, who listens to this???”.  That’s the music industry’s attitude towards good rock right there, and it’s just plain sad.  Take a good look around your local Musicland or Sam Goody.  They don’t care if you have taste.  They just want your money.  What else would the industry have me buy?  Oooh, I am a girl.  Maybe I should have checked out Mariah Carey.  Maybe a nice Celine Dion album.  Oooh, there was a festival just for me, Lilith Fair.   PULEASE.  I was and still am so insulted.  I want to rock too, and with none of the ©rap!  I was really beginning to wonder if those in the industry knew that there was more to rock than Creed.  Hey, music industry idiots!  I already own several Creed-sounding albums, they’re called “Vitalogy” and “Dirt”.  I didn’t feel like spending my hard-earned money on new ones that sounded the same, and I am one of those few who actually can’t bring herself to download much of anything on Napster, and even when I do, I always go out and buy it.  I can’t help it.  I feel guilty—because I am a girl.  Doh.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I heard of five new band’s albums that I just HAD TO GET.  I was off on a tangent discovering the European and NYC techno club scene this year, (Montreal is rock and roll HELL to give you an idea), and what do I come back to but a plethora of new bands trying to bring back “the rock.”  A Perfect Circle, Finger Eleven, Incubus, Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, Papa Roach, are all prime examples of guys (and girls) going out there and just rocking their asses off.  They’re making music for what it is—music.  It’s not an easily packageable thing, no matter how many labels the industry gives them, but each of them have been doing their own thing and—for the first time in years—selling.   They’re not trying to be gangstas, they’re not trying to be Kiss, they’re not trying to put on airs of being “above it”, nor are they trying to depress the hell out of us.  They just want to make good music so we can buy it and listen to it in our cars, our houses, our parking lots, our malls, wherever.  That’s all we really want of our bands, isn’t it?  Isn’t that part of the American dream?

So rock on, kids—they’re handing it to you.  No matter who’s president for the next four years, no matter where our economy goes, one thing will be for certain, rock will be there for you.  We’ll be listening.  I will continue to do what I have always done, and vote for my bands the good old fashioned way, by walking down to the store and casting my ballot with the folks at Visa.

Your turn, what do you think?

I still think RUSH sucks. Yes I do blame Canada. Sebastian Bach is the coolest thing by far I have EVER seen come from that way. Check out my site if you agree at evilstalkerhorne.com Put it in your address bar NOT in the search one.

Is it just me, or does the lead singer in Nickelback look like Tom Green with long hair?

Posted by EVILSTLKERHORNE:
I think that Holiday is right. God bless her and everybody else that doesn't agree... fuk 'em! {Not literally like my soon to be ex-wife either} Oh yeah... and as a singer/songwriter, I can honestly say .without a doubt, being a man and not gay so looks have nothing to so with it .... YES RUSH does SUCK! Horribly! I do believe that they could be the worst band EVER!! If you care to debate theis my email is EVILSTALKERHORNE@hotmail.com I'll look you up while screening my porn some time!

I think a real bad ass band everyone should check out is Ignite. Just came out into the open this year, they've been out for around 7 or 8 years. Hardcore punk/metal, completely original. Better then anything out there.

Posted by the max:
At least they didn't let it seep into their heads too far...either that or Phil beat the hairspray out of them when he joined the band.

Posted by greenmuse:
to dimebag, just so you know, pantera was using the hairspray way back in the 80's yeah i guess they are metal now,but those sillys were glam rockers back in like 83.they nabbed their look from poison.in the words of kurt angle, its true, its true.

THE MAGUS
So many heavy-as-hell metal releases came out this year. It's been the best year so far for aggressive music.EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK OUT A BAND CALLED AFTERSHOCK

Blue
Just wanted to thank OLDFART for sticking up for all of us who feel the same way as he does. I guess this makes me a 25 yr old senior citisen. I guess it's like I tell my kids. "...Back in the 80's when dionsauers roamed the earth, clothes were cute, cars were fun, music rocked and men were sexy.

and rush they are the worst excuse for a band I have ever heard. that weasle little ugly troll of a singer getty lee needs to die. blame canada!

Niki
thanks Holiday for a good article it is true rock will always be there for those who want it.

suburbanwhitetrashmakesmesick
How do you explaine the other bands?

the max
So how the fukk do you explain the group "Lover Boy"....hmmmmmm?

Biff
Finger Eleven, Our Lady Peace and Nickelback at least we Canadians know what good rock is!

Dr. Love
I too can't remember the last time I bought a CD from even a relatively new group. Most of my purchases are also to fill out my collection. Most are from the 80's. As for complaining about the B.S. record industry, I raise my fist and yell "GOD SAVE THE INTERNET!". This is the one place bands, now and in the future, can get their material out and promote themselves without having some record exec. squelch them.

WOW
I ghess you told me.

Ross
Master Don't try and debate him, it is pointless. He has these opinions and preconceived notions of his and won't back off. All you do when argueing with him is egg him on to spewforth more of this B.S. Who cares if people bashed the 80's? People with different taste bash other forms of music. People on this site seem to be pretty open minded on most fronts but when he comes in starts calling people names and bashing them for their taste he's the one with the problem not everyone else. He is more or less a Jesse Jackson type person, he has his ideas and with froth at the mouth about them regardless of the truth. If he doesn't like alternative, fine! Who gives a shyt? He's gonna give us a hard time because we like it. So that's the facts he's right and everyone else is wrong! If that's the case I'm glad I'm wrong! I say from now on we just ignore this guy, cuz it's pointless talking to him and I for one can't take him seriously. I think him and that chris cote person are the same person coming on here to talk trash. Look at it both are horrible spellers, they even get the same wrong spellings. They both change nicknames a lot. They both have these opinions and like to talk trash to everyone else. They both make inane arguements. I could go on but I've already wasted enough time on this "person"! What ever he says from now on, I say we just ignore him it's a waste of time debating a brick wall.

MasterOfPuppetz
look i could care less if you like alternative or not, but you accuse everyone who likes it to be trendy, and you always come up with wild accusations (that usually dont make sense) against it. its definatley a form of rock, maybe one you dont like, but its definatley rock. its just i doubt you have heard any of the bands holly mentioned, but you accused them of being another wave of crappy alternative bands that would fall from style. well nirvana (despite the fact that there broken up) still have fans among the high school level. most rock fans in my school respect nirvana, they werent just some trend. you dont have to like it, you just need to relize everyone has different tastes. and dont accuse me of ranting, i was just pre-responding to everything i expected you to say ("we wouldent want an Alternate opinion would we?" and "pay your dues son") this is the kind of stuff you usually start saying when someone trys to debate with you.

Miguel
You both need to look in the mirror because you accuse each other of things you do yourself. For the record I agree with her on this ene with a mountain of pop sh*t there are always a few gems hidden in there.

OLDFART
Ozzy said it himself dimebag. Go off on him. And yet again more stereotyping. See what I mean. Dosent anyone read through my post instead of only seeing certain things? First of all, never had big hair and never will. Neither will i chop it up like a chea pet and spray it yellow so it can resemble a dandeline. 2nd of all. where did poison come in at? ghess what, I dont like em. surprised? like I said more ignorent 80`s bashing without the facts. READ MY PST FIRST! it just might keep you from opening your moth and inserting your foot. 3rd of all, its my choice to listen to bands regardless of when they came out. You might be a slave to a trend that tells you its unhip to listen to certain bands because of the type casting. Close minded are we not ? 4th of all, i do listen to more recent music, just not this stuff. 5th of all, that was a weak come back, its hard to tell what you were saying through all the cussing and ranting. And im a close minded ranter? Last but not least, the 90`s are also over. Oh by the way, I got to go take my geritol. Its hard to be a 33 year old senore citisen these days. So if im old at 33, that means your life will end short also. If your not a teenie bopper, then quit saying such things. Cause thats what teenies say. P.S. LOOK WHOS THE TYPE TO RANT AT PEOPLES REPLYS.

Dimebag
Pantera not Metal? WTF? Now you gonna tell me Elvis was Rap? Dude that fvcking hair spray from the 80's seeped into your brain and caused some damage. tell you what. you can bash us for our music all you want we don't give a sh!t what a bitter old man has to say. looks like the main one doing the bashing is your sorry ass coming in here talking sh!t then getting all pissed when ppl call you on your stupid sh!t. what ever go fvck yourself and your Poison blow up doll. People say the 80's sucked cuz of fVckheads like your sorry ass. now go to jurasicrock.com and hang out with those has been and suck your 80's loving ass!

rock will never rule again
until we rid ourselves of MTV. Real bands don't get a chance from record companies cuz they know they can put out cheesy bubblegum pop and rake in the bucks and Carson Daly will get that sh!t out to the mindless teeny boppers who borrow their daddy's gold card to buy this sh!t. meanwhile real musicians with real talent and integrety are gettin the shaft from the music industry. I hope Napster and the net open up music to the fans so we don't have to rely on these damn greedy corporations for our music!

Personally I think that for once in a generation we deserve something aside from the plastic packed Limp Bizkit bullsh1t that we have recieved. Our generation has up to this point added very little to actual great rock music, now there are some notable exceptions. Mindless Self Indulgence is one of the most unique bands to ever exist for example, and I don't know about you but I am very impressed with the latest offering from Nine Inch Nails. ANd I will agree that Disturbed and the rest on her list are trying to bring back music for it's own sake as opposed to for the almighty $ bill.

It is an opinion not the truth! you could be right or wrong but don't try passing off an opinion as fact!

Yes I have heard more than a couple of songs from a couple bands. You cant but hear it all over the place. And yes it all does have a thread through it. And yes I do like newer bands. Just not the alternative ones or the ones that have any alternative tinged in it. And yes this stuff is mixed with newwave or at the very least the vocalisation. And it is true that it has to much distortion to many times along with a dragging sound to it. Sometimes stong and sometimes subtle. And I can care less what halford says. He tryed crossing over. So he going to say anything. And if You read some of my post, I never tryed to make it look like I had a cult following. Sure at one time I was toying with some by letting them wonder. Because I thought it was kind of funny that people was worrying about post titles to much. And every thing you call whining is just someone telling the truth. If its the truth, its the truth. If you call that whining, then you need to grow up. Because people do have a right to say what they want. And when others make post and then someone replys and then someone gets mad and eccuse you of starting it. Someone has the right to point out the fact that that they were only replying about what someone else says. And the right to point that fact out. Or dont they? What about all your cussing and ranting and calling people names ? What about the same old ploys to dismiss someone by calling him an idiot, close minded, loser and so forth ? I like the one from you of all people the most, your just ranting. You show me from any thing on any replys down here where I lie or at the least am not entitled to my veiw ? You point out something that is bad that I said on the replys down below. At least anything any worser than some has thrown at my post. I know, but im wrong and dont know what im saying and that makes it different. Also you will say this is a ploy of somekind. What kind of ploy will that be? Read my words carefully and show me what is bad or wrong with what I have said but have my own veiws and opinion. Ones you dont like. But because you dont like it dosent make anything a ploy.

Nikki
Wow I thought you were ranting master until I read what this guy said. it looks like he is the one doing the bashing. he is just like jesse jackson, going out an pointing fingers stiring up trouble for no real reason!

MasterOfPuppetz
just when i thought tim was starting to be resonable he goes on another 90s bashing tirade. Im so sick of this, but here i go again. ALTERNATIVE IS ROCK!!! my god have you ever even heard any of it? how could you honestly think its not rock? what is it disco? i doubt you have heard any alternative besides nirvana and pearl jam, maybe one or two songs each. ive heard your whole "pre-fashioned" thing and it doesent hold water. these alternative bands had existed throughout the 80s they just didnt become popular untill 92. your idea that its punk meets new-wave also doesent make sense. nirvana and pearl jam may be punk influenced, but i dont hear any punk in alice in chains, for example, and i dont hear any new wave (WTF?) in any alternative. there was no signature sound for those bands. they were all different, they were only grouped together becasue they were from the same area and all broke at the same time. from the sound of your posts is very ovbious you no little about the genre you bash so relentlesly. many people call soundgarden led zepplin meets black sabbath. then look at AIC, "at a time when most bands of the day had a muddy sound, alice in chains werent afraid to be very melodic" - Rob halford (thats not an exact qoute but it was along those lines) this is very true, you accuse it of being muddy, over distorted fuzztones, so ovbiously you have never heard of alice in chains. your basically steryotyping an entire genre becasue you heard one band (nirvana) that you didnt like, and next your gonna say, "gen X started the steryotyping and the bashing" this is just a silly generalization, ive never bashed the 80s, and i could care les about those mean "Gen Xers" who make fun of the 80s, im not one of them and most of the people here arent either. when people say your stuck in the 80s, that doesent mean they think 80s music is bad, they mean that your closeminded and need to relize that not all music after 1988 is bad. you accused all the bands she listed as being alternative, but its doubtful you have ever heard any of them, its just more steryotyping and generalizing on your part. and to bash gen x for steryotyping the 80s and then steryotyping the 90s is hypocrasy, any way you cut it, and i dont care if "the gen X-ers started it" that sounds like something a 6 year old would say. its just being whiny, we didnt start anything with you, you came on here and you started the bashing my friend, and (im sorry but im gonna have to answer to everything your gonna say to me next time you post) dont start saying things like this "oh, we wouldent want an OPINION on and Opinion board, do we?" this is just another whiny routine, you seem to think your some victom of oppression, and were all out to get you bla bla bla. and i dont want to hear about how hard your life was and "your 15, come back when you've paid your dues son" please just spare me all that bullcrap. ive heard your little routine enough times and dont care to hear it again. if you could just stop being an a$$hole for one second and actually try to have a debate instead of ranting on how everyones out to get you and how were all a bunch of trendy X-ers than maybe people here would treat you with more respect, because respect is a two-way streak. and one thing that would help is if you would stop posting under different names to confuse people and try to support your points, trying to act like multiple people in order to make it seem as if there are all these people who think like you is childish, so is posting as the people you bash to try to prove your point (it was obviously you posting under the names trendsetter and fleetingx) You may be 30 and i may be 15, but it seems like your the one who needs to grow up. ill close with a qoute from the bassist of nirvana "Grunge? whats grunge? isnt that the stuff at the bottem of your shower? grunge music? this is just plain rock and roll music man" - chris novelsic (his last name is something like that, i have no clue how to spell it)

MasterOfPuppetz
damn it i hit add my comments to early, antiguy please delete that post and this one as well, ill re-post the thing

TOMAXXANDGANG
WHAT IS IT THAT I SAID THATS BAD? OR A LIE? CAN IT BE THAT YOU DONT LIKE WHAT IM SAYING SO ONCE AGAIN AN INSULT IS USED TO DISMISS THE MESSAGE. AND AS FAR AS GOING AND GOING. LIKE PEOPLE IN THIS SITE DONT GO ON AND ON ABOUT SUBJECTS. ONES YOU POST OVER AND OVER. MOST OF THE TIME I JUST REPLY. COME ON BACK AND SEE IF YOU CAN COME UP WITH A NEW NAME YOU CAN CALL ME. THE OLD ONES ARE GETTING OLD.

TO MAXX
WHAT YOU SAID ON THE SPANDEX AND BELLBOTTEMS POST. HISTORY HAS PROVEN TO NEVER SAY NEVER.

Roger
I just saw that guy down there talking trash on new music. I'm not doing to get into an arguement about this but I do gotta say something about Ozzy saying Pantera isn't metal. Ozzy must have been drunk when he said that! Pantera is one of the only real metal bands getting major attention. If they aren't metal then I don't know what is and I've been listening to metal for 20 years!

Roger
You are totally right! This was the first year since like 1988 that I bought more than 4 or 5 new CD's. It's been an a while that we got some decent music from the major labels. But his year we had Pantera, AC/DC, NIN, Radiohead, RATM the list goes on. I also like some of the new bands that got some attention. Like you said Nickelback and Finger 11 are great rock bands! Although I tend to put Papa Roach in with Limp Bizkit and I was disappointed in the new collective soul and the 3 doors down album. Things are looking good for next year.

the max
p.s. To the guy saying Pantera is not metal. I'm almost positive your just being stupid to get people to bitch at you. Fukk off...Moron.

the max
I think 2000 was a great year...Mudvayne, Soulfly, Pantera, The Heavy Metal 2000 soundtrack, Disturbed, the list can go on... I think some of you people need to get off the what's metal and what's not issue. If you like it listen to it...there is no such thing as trendy metal or any of that shyt. If you think it's trendy chances are it's not metal or Rock. It's most likely something along the lines of Papa Roach or Britney Spears/BSB. That is all manufactured shyt, if you like it, fine...I'm not saying your just into trends. You people who think everything except your music is a trend need to grow the fukk up and get a life. The trendy shyt is not going away so just ignore it. That's the best thing you can do.

Michael
Why and the hell are you guys argueing about the 80's? This was about the year 2000!

Maxx
See what I mean? He's like the energizer bunny he keeps bitching and bitching and bitching. & he wonders why people bash him? this arguement is old and it's also really boring.

p.s.
Ozzy basicly said that panteras not metal. Now go call your hero a closeminded loser. If only pantera didnt growl like a rabbid dog I might give it a chance. Thats not closeminded. Thats having taste.

bashed
This person saying that I only insult and not discuss and noone else has insulted or has stereotyped because of there ignorence is a flat out lier. And there are post to back this up along with 9 years of bashing from the 90`s crowd and corporate double standards of there music. Say it aint true and you will be lieing again. This is exactly what im taling about. Dismiss the messenger as a close minded ranting as*,dismiss what he has to say. And support anything you want. What does that have to do with what I been saying. You even put alternative in a different catigorie from rock and metal yourself. But you will find a calculated way to squirm out of this one to. Wont you. And the bit about Bon jovi only goes to prove me and the punkkiddie bit right. About how childesh, generelising and ignorent about me and people like me and the 80`s. With this in mind, how can peoples word like this be considered credible? Oh but im sure you will all find a calculated reason for this too.

Tim
I need to get a life. Oh wait I left my life in 1986 at that Bon Jovi concert.

Max
I tip to all of you. don't argue with this guy. he's been going off on this rant of his for like the last 6 months. he's has a complex about the 90's. Keep in mind this is a guy who was bashing Pantera as not being metal. He won't listen to your arguements, just insult you. Very sad yet very true. Don't waist your time on him. Holly, great article! I agree under all the garbage sppon feed by MTV there are some great bands to be had, if you gotta an open mind. I like music that is created for the music sake. It doesn't matter if it's metal, powerpop, rock, alternative, punk, or R&B if it's honest and I can indenify with it, I'll check it out. I don't follow trends, but I also don't rule out bands because they are popular. Both types of people are missing out on great music and living in ignorance. That's ok it leave more room at the shows for real music fans.

punkkiddie
bla bla bla ! the 80`s suck bla bla bla ! your an idiot and a moron bla bla bla! must be a glam fan. bla bla bla ! i hate people over 30 cause there old bla bla bla! im sooooo cool cause i know whats hip withe scene bla bla bla! i allready know everything there is to know and thats why im so secure about flappin my cakehole. bla bla bla!

bubble buster
First of all alternative derived from punk and new wave. It is just an offspring is all. Sure some of these bands want to think there rock. But there was rock in the 80`s that wasnt mainstream and there is rock that has been pushed underground because of the 90`s alternative scene. If you was to hear some of these bands from today and the 80`s. You can hear the difference. Just because some rock bands had different styles and some were able to experiment and musicaly progress dosent mean theres a parallel comparison about rock and alternative bands like you said. Theres still a thread that runs deep and straight with real rock bands and theres that same kind of thread that runs through alternative groups and there parent genres. There has been some rock lifted off of rock but theres a lot of genres that lift off of each other. Some to the point where you can call it fusion. But pure or real in any of them there MIXED with, there not. And far as this x guys go. f*ck you to snob. But at least this little ignorent loser is straight foward. I at least can deal with someone whos open than someone whos a closet snob. Then again some snobs are just to blind to there own ways. Open or closed, snobs are snobs. Its to bad that people havent improved there atitudes no better than this in todays society. But any ways whats really laughable is the stupid reasons you think alternative is real rock or pure rock.

Ross
What is this bashed moron talking about? Was he reading another article? Or is he that broken record Tim dude that harps on the evil generation x and alternative music. What a loser!

666
bashed and bubblehead look like the same person. Fleetingx dude your just as bad as bashed. not all metal fans are trailor trash. That was a stupid statement man.

HyperTechnical
I saw this bashed minority's claim that alternative isn't rock on one of the message boards. His arguements are laughable. Would you disput that the Beatles were rock? Actaully Nirvana was more rock than the Beatles cuz the fab four used a lot of none traditional, to rock, song structures and instuments. listen to elenor rigby what is rock about that? the moody blues weren't rock either cuz they used classical music with thier rock instruments. Metallica wasn't rock because they played to hard and fast. Aerosmith wasn't rock cuz steven tyler screamed. see how stupid these arguements can become. The word alternative was coined to mean an alternative to the mainstream rock. in the 80's when the term was first used it was used to describ bands like oingo boingo, the cure, the smiths, depeche mode etc and then people used it to discribe grunge bands which were really only the stripped down hard rock bands. sure they didn't used the tired and true hard rock vocal style but the chord structures, timing and everything else was straight hard rock. They just didn't use the lead guitar and vocalist the way they were used in the 80's. But a lot of grunge bands would have been right at home with the 60's acid rock movement. Is their much of a difference between Urieh Heep and Pearl Jam as their is between Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden? Since Iron Maiden doesn't sound like Black Sabbath does that mean they aren't metal? Hell Soundgarden sounds more like Black Sabbath than most 80's metal bands. So get off your soap box "man of many names" and listen to what ever you want and respect other peoples right to listen to what they like too. There is enough music in the world to go around for every taste and preference. Just because something isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean it sucks! Just like if I don't like a band you like doesn't mean that band sucks.

LiquidPulse
Isn't Alternative a form of rock? Are there still any bands that call themselves alternative (have there ever been any bands that called themselves Alternative)? Rock and Heavy Metal are labels that will stay and survive through evolution. The label Alternative is dead the new label is Nu-metal. Ask any of the so-called Nu-metal bands out there what they should be labeled as, and they'll tell you that they're either rock, metal, or hardcore.

fleetingx
Bubble buster is a fvcking idiotalong with bashed. I think you need to get in a time machine and go back to the 80`s. Fvck your rock and heavy metal. Alternative is the thing baby! deal with it. Nobody gives a sh*t about that kind of music anymore and white trailer park trash like you. I can give a rats a*s about whats underground. I hope that mullet head white trash crap stays there. If I see some one who looks like a head banger in my neighborhood ill call the cops on them or run them over in my car if I knew I would get away with it. People like you wonder why you get noses turned up toward you or putdown and laughed at. Get a fvcking clue ya white trash riff raff. You dont count cause your to ignorent to change or conform to a better life. Yeah, im better than you. So what.

bubble buster
I think you people are shameless snobs and need an ethics lesson. Its this attitude that causes hard feelings that lead to school shootings. Will any of you or your kids be the next victom or be the one victomising some one at school ?

trendsetter
I agree. If something gets played to much even though someone like me supported it to that level and the names and faces get to passe. Throw it out. Lets get on with the next batch. Thats what its all about. Staying up with the latest thing and not getting to attached to what came before. So what right do we have in praiseing our music and taste as superior even though eventually we toss it to the side ? Because its hip at the time and thats all that matters. So like quit being such a nerd and white trash and like get with it.

postmanringstwice
ALT. ROCKER? WHATS WRONG WITH BEING A STRAIGHT FOWARD ROCKER?

BASHED MINORITIE
Actually im bashed because I wont jump on the newest band wagon. So if you call me an idiot because im bashed on my taste in music only makes you one. And I didnt know prototype or watch tower was 1985. And if I listen to something from 85 what difference should it make. As long as its my choice. Am I supposed to abandone something because its not the latest scene? If you do then you are a trendy little idiot. And what was mentioned as far as bands are just another bunch of alternative groups that are ready to hit the next mass market scene untill there names and faces get played out and tossed to the side. While real rock and not ALTERNATIVE grunge pop gets called dead. Because your mind set against it because its not fashioned enough wont support it. But is still surviving under ground while all the weard pop groups get all the money. But fads and trends eventually fade sooner or later and rock will ultimately survive. Thats what makes it better than grunge pop. Because it has and will always survive shallow trends supported by shallow preps like youselfs. But like always you will have some kind of calculated theory that excuses your trendyness and snobishness and call me an idiot. By the way, how much do you know about metal and at the very least 85?

Altrocker
haha I think that bashed minority missed the point too. But I won't go off calling him names like 666 did. That's acting just as stupid as him.

666
Bashed minority is bashed for a reason. he is an idiot! put your head back in to your 1985 ass. You sound like one of those idiots who thinks that anything after 1988 sucks. what a joke. and what is real rock in your stupid opinion? I bet you have never heard Finger Eleven. closed minded fool!

LiquidPulse
Its actually been the best year in music since the early nineties. I do have to admit that there aren't any great new revolutionary type of bands out there, but the music these bands are making are really good. Here's my list for must buy cds this year alone: A Perfect Circle Soulfly The Union Underground Apartment 26 Sunna Disturbed Black Label Society VAST Professional Murder Music Theatre of Tragedy

CHEER FOR GORE, LISTEN TO BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DRINK BEER, HELP OUT, SLEEP IN, TURN IT UP, AND TAKE A .....HOLIDAY.....WHEN YOU CAN

bashed minoritey
have you heard of any good rock\metal bands from underground sites? no? then all your doing is helping to fuel the next wave of new punk and alternative bands. just because there names are newer only proves that alternative is a trendy fad that keeps massproducing over its old names to make way for new names and packages. but real rock and metal is still being stomped on thanks to people like you. Go out and buy some prototype or watctower if you can find it. Then I might really be impressed. papa roach, finger 11 ?pleaseeeeeee That crap isnt anything close to real rock and as far as non establishment? once again pleaseeeee.

Holly you are too cool! You sound like you'd be a blast to hang with at a show. You are right rock will never die!

The Biggest Dog of them All
Right on! I agree with everything you say. However I do think the new rock will sound a little better with Bush as president!!

Niiki
for being just a girl you sure made sense to me

Ross
You made some great points. The music industry has its collective head up their ass.

RockNazi
