TheGriMReeFeR, i think the opposite. i see some similarities between exhorder and panteras guitars but none in the vocals. overall exhorder sounded more like a hardcore band like a madball type band. pantera were more southern metal groove. by the way have u heard meshuggah? now thats a fukcing awsome band!

I'm sick of hearing about Pantera ripping off Exhorder! Exhorder was an awesome band ,one of the best metal bands EVER, but give it a rest people! I have both Slaughter In The Vatican(f*ckin AWESOME,maybe the best thrash album ever) and The Law(great as well) and the biggest similarities between the two bands are the vocals. Phil definitely sounds similar to Kyle Thomas, but their approaches are totally different. Phil will actually sing every now and then whereas Kyle was pretty much always "in your face". The bands themselves are not that similar. Pantera played some melodies(Floods, Cemetary Gates, etc.), Exhorder was just plain f*ckin Heavy pretty much all the time(the only "toned down" song being the Sabbath cover Into The Void on The Law). And for those of you who don't know, inside the cd jacket for The Law, Exhorder gives a shout out to- you guessed it- Pantera, and Phil in particular. If Pantera had "ripped them off" as some of you constantly cry, wouldn't they have put Pantera in the F*ck You section of the cd sleeve? I'd figure they'd be the ones pissed off about it, not a bunch of people who have nothing to do w/either band(most of which have probably never even heard any of Exhorder's music). Bottom line is this: if Exhorder wasn't pissed off about someone "ripping them off" you sure as hell have no reason to be upset! I don't care if you like Pantera or not, to each his/her own. I'm not going to resort to namecalling just because we disagree on music. I am a fan of both Exhorder and Pantera(maybe the only 1 who likes both:). All I can tell those of you who have never heard Exhorder before(especially Slaughter In The Vatican/track 3 Desecrator OWNS!!) is do whatever you can(kill, steal, sell your soul) to find one of their cd's because it is some of the best heavy music ever made. And Pantera was never like Poison, just more Priest-esque with terrible hair(I had a mullet in the 80's so I can't say too much) . At least Pantera got better as the years passed unlike some bands who did the opposite(Metallicrap).

Diamond or Dimebag which ever you want to call him is fantastic and even tho Pantera may have been a Glam band (which btw was mostly before Phil Anselmo) they're still heavier than f*ckin John Candy and could kick your f*ckin a$$e$, Phil Anselmo could turn you to mush and not bat a f*ckin eyelid... word

The bottom line is simple: Pantera are the greatest band ever to grace the planet.The music is progressive, but always remains true.Each member is a legend in their own right, world class beyond any doubt. Exhorder from songs i heard sound like a slayer like speed/hardcore or watever band. Pantera doesnt speed it up as much and has more heaviness and groove in their sound. That was the cds pantera could have possible ripped off. Being Get rude and slaughter in the vatican-their 2 demos. The law-that came after cowboys and mabye even after vulgar in 1992. Its unfortunate exhorder broke up, their a great band but i dont think pantera completely ripped them off. I think they both have really good sounds their just in the same genre.

First off, I'm not taking any sides. Mot of you are complete idiots. Like my name suggests, this is just sad. Pantera=Poison is very hypocrative and is no better than the racists he rallies against. However, he does bring up a good point: Pantera are cowards and are afraid to admit to their past. There's nothing wrong with changing your sound (Alice In Chains of all bands, used to be Glam) but Phil Anselmo and co. do infact persist in burrying their past. I don't expect them to continually acknowledge this but when they are asked about it point blank, they usually resort to lies, halftruths and excuses (Phil: "We were never a Glam band. They were an Iron Maiden cover band"). As I said earlier, Pantera=Poison is a walking contradiction, but then so are most of you. It's highly amusing to see you call him a "f*ggot", then call him a homophobe in the same breath. Honestly, nobody is really right here (with the exception of Real Music Fan and A Person With A Brain And Concience). Moving on, I'd like to say that Pantera is strongly influenced by Exhorder despite what TROH might think. Vocally, Kyle Thomas and Phil Anselmo are nearly identical and the intense Thrash riffing is heavily used in the Pantera sound. Even their image was borrowed by Exhorder. I don't know which song you found because Exhorder has very little to do with Punk. Download "The Law" and try telling me Pantera didn't get influenced by Exhorder (you misused the word "overrated". Perhaps you meant, "over-blown"?). Pantera is a great Metal band despite their cheesy past offerings, and Diamond Darrel is one of the most creative guitarists of modern day Metal. They just need to admit to their past. "Morbid Angel" (the user, not the band) along with countless others, needs to grow up and stop acting like a stupid imbecile.

When i refered to exhorder as a 80s hair type band(axl rose screams) that was because of a misunderstanding of one of Pantera=Poisons waste of space posts. Ne way upon hearing exhorder and seeing just how big a "ripoff" pantera was of them i did hear influences, but to say they "ripped off" exhorder would be inaccurate. From the song i heard(exhorder) they sounded like a suicidal tendencies/madball clone. Pantera doesnt have that much punk influence in them so i think the Pantera being a ripoff of exhorder thing has been blown out of proportion and higly overrated.

I am a fan of the works of bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, TOOL, and Black Sabbath just as much as I am of bands like Barenaked Ladies, Matchbox 20, Dave Matthews Band, Bob Dylan, U2, Elton John, and The Beatles. All these artists have meaningful music. What's so meaningful about a bunch of noise with some barely-comprehensible growling sound and mostly empty lyrics of hatred and degradation? Why are all love songs sappy? Granted there's no depth in the teen pop category, but love is a meaningful thing. I'm sorry that many of you people have no morals and are caught up in that ridiculous BS chauvenistic caveman crap. I'm also sorry that you don't like meaningful music and thought-provoking lyrics.
