After crossing the border, spending a day in Helena, Montana, sleeping to Idaho, counting in the shipment of merch, setting up the tent, loading gear off the truck, and wiping the remaining Calgarian dust from everything we owned, we hung out at the Idaho Warped Tour for a spell. It was hot. Hot as hell. I think it got up to 105 degrees.
We had lunch, did some interviews at 2:00, then hung out for awhile before our show. Loaded in, greeted Oreskaband at the stage, loaded on, and then battled through a painfully, horrendously hot set. The horn players for Epic were, well, epic though, and the set went over like gangbusters. It was too hot though. So we all sang Jingle Bells to cool off. It didn't work, but it sounded nice. Ran to merch, did a signing, grabbed showers, talked about fall touring, and then slept our way over into Washington state. Good show, Boise!!!

In preparation for the arrival of Warped Tour, the city of Calgary suspended all grass growth for the spring and summer 2008. They had to make the dust bowl perfectly dusteriffic. And they pulled it off! It was just like a Western out there. A sunny day with variable cloudinesses. Played around 1:00 I think. Taught the trumpet player from Oreskaband, Saki, the notes to play for Epic. She was very excitey and a great player.
Convy and I met the fine people at the Calgary rock station and did an interview with them. We played to a fine crowd, as Byron left the merch attended by a friend while he took in a rare Ludo show. After all, we were finally in his hometown, and we looked to him to translate our culture to the beautiful Calgarians who surrounded us. He did wonderfully well. That evening, we sang Happy Birthday for Megan from Ta-Da Catering. She was embarrassed. Then the ladies from Oreskaband came over to our bus, and we went over all the horn parts to Epic. They were not only transposing all the notes I gave them from concert to their instruments, they were also translating what we were saying from English into Japanese. Smarter than us, they are. They also really liked our Minute Maid apple juice. Ludo truly has the party bus, Warped Tourians. Headed south. We had a date with a border crossing, an accusatory driver of a different bus, and the capital city of Montana.

After a day off in blustery Winnipeg, Manitoba (twas a holiday called Civic Day and the streets were bare), we were all geared up to take Saskatoon, Saskatchewan by storm. There were very few people at Warped Tour that day (probably by extension of the fact that there are very few people in Saskatoon), but the ones who were there kicked it hard. Ludo volunteered at lunch time at catering by helping serve foods from 11:30-2:00. I served Saskatoon Salad, Matt did Canadian Shrimp, Randall served Manitoban vegan chicken, Ferrell served something (beef? no...), Marshall served something (justice? no...), and Convy served Prince Edward Island smoothies. Yay. Ate with The Randies, convinced Oreskaband to play horns on Epic with us onstage, and then headed back out into the Saskatchewanian day.
We played to a scantish chunk of humanage (80 people??), but it was a good time the whole way through. As we were breaking down the merch tent at the end of the day, some drunk kid in a Canadian band pissed on our merch tent. He then insisted for 20 minutes that we were wrong and he didn't. It was very douchetastic. Whatever. I will never be friends with that guy. He cannot come to my birthday party. Packed up, loaded out, and shortly thereafter found ourselves en route to Calgary! Home of Byron!

Good morning, Milwaukee! Back to the Marcus Amphitheatre, where we'd just had a scintillating Summerfest experience a few weeks before. Blinking in the bright sunlight, we stumbled out of the bus, loaded in, and grabbed lunchy. Convy and I did an interview in the WLUM van twice (the first one didn't record right).
Played a hot rock show to many, many, many crazy Warped Tour attendees, then led an Idiot Parade all the way to the merch tent. What a great show! The rest of the band loaded out and then met up at merch, where we did a 4:00 signing. Tons of kids showed up, and we signed everything they put in front of us. It was a great time. Byron and Randall loaded out the merch, and the bus eventually headed south for Tinley Park.

Hot in Indianapolis. Certainly the warmest day of the tour since Boston. That sun sure was vigorous. Got up and got out there with Donnie and Rifqa at doors, where some volunteers were helping promote with signs. We sold some CD's and told people to come see us play at 6:00. Then we found out they'd changed our set time to 5:30. Crap. We changed all the signs and sent everyone out to promote the new time. Hung out intermittently with Byron at merch. Showed the bus off to some Wickes peoples. Watched some great sets.
The bus started smoking at a certain point, and Randy had to call someone to check it out since the generator had switched off. Then Randall ran off with a runner and tracked down 4,000 CD's for Ludo to restock with. Busy day for the TM! We played early that evening to a great crowd, did an Idiot Parade, loaded out, grabbed food, did a signing, met good people, showered, loaded out the merch, hung out at the barbecue, and then called it a night. Great work team! Let's go to Milwaukee!!!

Woke up in Cincinnati. Ludo's the first show of the day. Wah? Yes. 11:30 show. Wah? We were the last to play in Pittsburgh and the first to play the next day. Crazypants! No Idiot Parade, because it was kind of a clusterbang to get from our stage to our merch tent. But we hung out for many hours at the merch tent with Byron meeting fans and making buddies. The signing went well and then we were off to do press. Four interviews to do that day. We knocked them out in succession. Blam-blam styley. That night, we grabbed a little barbecue. Convy and I sat on the banks of the Ohio River with Donnie and Rifqa and talked about how to make better use of the street team the next day. One of the Japanese girls of Oreskaband softly played her trombone 30 yards down the bank. I watched the water and looked at Kentucky's tree-y hills on the other side. It was pretty. I really like rivers. They make me happy. Short drive that night. Good sleep.

Hello, Pittsburgh! Early Tuesday, we found out our gear was getting kicked off the truck. Not enough room. Also, found out we were going to be the last band of the day. Nice. Headlining Warped. (<---that's a joke) Nice. Did an interview that afternoon. Loaded in down a large hill (we would load out UP a large hill). Watched some great bands all day. Eventually made our way over to the Hurley.com Stage with our equipments. Did a signing around 6:00 or so. Then for our show... we were the last band to start and for 15 minutes, all of Warped Tour had to listen to Ludo. It was fun. Lots more people watched our set than I thought would. Byron had already torn merch down though because it's not fun to try to count shirts out in the dark. So no parade. But we sold CD's from the stage and met everyone who was good enough to stick around. Had to schlep most of our gear back to the trailer. It was only about a quarter mile uphill. And the sick thing is, we never would have known how bad it sucked to load all our equipment from the parking lot had they not offered to put us on the truck in the first place. Back to the bus we roamed. Jim drove it west.

Woke up at a raceway in New Jersey. Alright. I can roll with this. We were playing at 5:15. We decided originally to do our signing then at 3:00, but then Randy got a phone call saying Kevin Lyman wanted to interview us at 3:30 on his bus. Okay. Signing would be at 2:00. The only problem was our merch tent was right in the middle of a huge cluster-bang of people, in front of The Hurley Stage. There was hardly room to move let alone form a line. But Randall, Byron, and the Island Street Team figured it out, and by the time we loaded our equipment to the Hurley.com Stage and got over to the merch tent by 2:00, the line was neatly positioned, and the crowd was under control. Good work, team! The hottest day so far on Warped for Ludo, but that wasn't the problem. The sun was beating straight at our faces on our stage. At 5:15, you couldn't see shit, and it was hot enough to make breathing difficult whilst singing. The Aggrolites tore up the stage before we went on. We swept the pieces together and managed to make a Ludo rock show on its conglomeration. For the first time this tour, we changed the set, bumping Broken Bride and playing Epic right before Love Me Dead. It was a good time. Immediately after the show, did the Idiot Parade, and met lots of great kids. Shuffled back to the bus. 10:00 departure for the Pittsburgh area! Beddy-bye!

So everyone was making "The Office" jokes. We were in Scranton. Get it? I got it. And I liked it. Randy shook us awake around 9:30. We were playing at 11:45. Sheeit.... Wake up. Brush your throat and floss your fingers! The good news, Randy told us, was that the load- in was entirely on asphalt. We learned the bad news quickly, as we found that the stage was 1/2 mile from the bus, up a mountain. A literal mountain. My cobras was burnin'. Got onstage, soundchecked, I ran back to the bus and warmed up. Ran back to the stage, sang poorly, led a parade, hung out at merch, and then shortly after our signing, it began to rain harder than I've seen in a long time (hail and all), and all of Warped Tour was ruined. Through the wreckage, the shows continued, Ludo got packed up early, briefly checked out Reel Big Fish at the Barbecue / After Party and we all went beddy-bye at a reasonable hour.

It was even warmer in Uniondale on Saturday, and Ludo had a 5:15 set time. Exciting. Ferrell and I split off early in the day to do an interview at the Marriott down the street. Came back, grabbed lunch, and then hung out with a whole convoy of Convys and friends and Davis family people. Played the show to a raucous crowd out in the sun, led the Idiot Parade over to merch, and met people while the rest of the dudes loaded out. Fortunately, most of our stuff was now going on the truck, so loading had become easier. Signed stuff for awhile, then did the actual signing at 6:30, then grabbed dinner and retired to the parking lot. Big crowd. Good time. At the end of the day, we gave thanks to Kevin Lyman, hopped on the bus and partied (slept) toward Scranton.

What a lovely day in Camden, New Jersey. We were in the greater metropolis of Philadelphia and we was ready to make a Warped Tour. Found out that our set time was early (1:45), and hustled to get our stuffs loaded in. This time, Donnie and Rifqa had joined the Island Street Team ranks, and they were ready to fight with us. The Hurley.com Stage was underneath the pavilion again, and to access it, you actually had to go inside the concessions building, which was strange. We went on, did our six songs, and negotiated a flying shoe. At the end of the show, I hopped offstage and following Donnie as held the boombox high, I led The Idiot Parade through the crowd and to our merch tent. We did a signing and then a Fuse interview and then grabbed dinner and a few showers. Matt accidentally poured a beer into his laptop, it shorted out, and is totally ruined. He is unhappy. I don't blame him. We sat out in lawn chairs in front of the bus with some friendly peoples and Aaron Barrett from Reel Big Fish. Somewheres along the line, we went beddy-bye, while Big Jim drove us to Long Island.

Woke up in Buffalo! Twas a cool, cloudy day. Fortunately for us, our bus was parked much closer to the Hurley.com Stage. Short load-in... Daddy like. Byron and Randy already had the Ludo machine up and running when we emerged from our slumber-chambers. Is this what life on the road can be like? Why were we in a van this whole time? Oh yeah, because we had no money. Sweet. Let's milk this thing while Warped Tour lasts. Someone bring me a vegan chimichanga. Since our set time was 6:45, we figured we would have to do the signing earlier in the day. We set it for 2:30 and then prepared for no one to show up since it was before we were even playing. Much to our surprise, there were 100 people waiting when we got there. Signed stuff for 45 minutes, grabbed some foods, and then commenced the warm-up. Took stage after a couple hardcore bands and blasted through the same set as the day before. A little more comfortably though. The Hurley.com Stage crew was very good to us, and made life easy. Right after we played, I ran to the side of the stage with my marching band hat on, and with an Island Street Teamer holding a boombox that played Ohio State marching tunes, I led a parade of idiots to the Ludo merch tent. There we all acted like idiots and listened to marching music, whilst the rest of Ludo packed up. We retired to the tent while Byron and Randy tore down the merch and loaded it out. Marshall fired up the grill and made foods for us. Jim (our bus driver) pulled away around 11:00pm, we had a meeting with Brigitte, recorded some ringtones for Arizona Iced Tea and some liners for AT&T on Matt's computer, and then went beddy-bye.

antiMusic reports: Ludo will be checking in with us all summer as they rock the Warped tour in support of their Island Def Jam CD "You're Awful, I Love You". You can tell by their album name, their sense of humor will fit perfectly here. Here is the band with the entry for the tour kick off:
Ludo finally has a bus! After hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of shows, we finally get to do a tour in a bus! Unbelievable. With our new tour manager, Randy, and our new merch guy, Byron, we left St. Louis late on the night of the 20th, slept as we rode through the night to Columbus, got up, saw The Dark Knight, slept as we rode through the night again to Bay Shore, New York, got up, toured the merchdirect facilities (where all our merch is made), had dinner with Steve Davis, and then slept as we rode through the night all the way to Mansfield, Massachusetts.
Our first day on Warped! Got our set time, Byron and Randy loaded in and set up merch, we did some radio interviews, then loaded in. We're on the Hurley.com Stage. In Mansfield, it was apparently one of two stages under the pavilion. Right before we played it began to pour rain, and probably 10,000 people piled into the shed to hide from the rain. Where they helplessly had to watch a Ludo show! Ha! Our sick plan worked. We played six songs as the pit flooded and kids down there went nutso. I immediately hopped offstage after the show, and cut straight to our merch tent, where we then hung out for the rest of the evening, meeting peoples and signing stuffs. Loaded out. Broke down merch. A few of us grabbed showers. They were freezing cold. We nestled snugly into our bunks and as we slumbered, we rolled toward Buffalo, New York.
