(press release) ROXY SAINT IS ON A MISSION
TO PUT THE RISK, SLEAZE - OH, AND SEX - BACK INTO ROCK And a Half-Million
On-Demand Streams Say She Just Might.
She's not signed with a major record label,
her songs are not on the radio, her videos are not wall-to-wall on MTV.
Nevertheless, five of ROXY SAINT's videos are in the Top 30 of iFilm's
Top Rock/Pop Videos of All Time.** Her video for "F*ck Song" is NUMBER
THREE on that chart - higher than videos by U2, The Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Madonna, Korn, and The White Stripes. And, get this - since February,
iFilm ALONE has streamed "on demand" nearly a HALF-MILLION requests for
her videos.
So who is Roxy Saint? Well, if you're
bored with what's happening in music today, if you think that the corporate
financial greed of the Major Record Labels is killing off any and all attempts
at artistic creativity or innovation, if you dream for the days when music
was FUN and DANGEROUS and maybe just a touch sleazy, when people took CHANCES,
then let me introduce you.
A Los Angeles-based singer, musician, guerrilla
filmmaker and performance artist, Roxy Saint is confrontational, provocative,
flirtatious, and sexy. Her debut release, the DVD "The Underground
Personality Tapes" is currently available at her own www.roxysaint.com,
and will be in-stores this fall on the Star Blue TV label with national
distribution through ADA. While Roxy was offered traditional record
deals, she turned down all offers down, opting instead to do things her
way – the DVD.
"The Underground Personality Tapes" DVD
was produced independently and on the fly, 100% guerrilla street film,
100% digital; the songs were recorded in her bedroom, the videos were shot
in her bathroom, then edited on a borrowed Apple G4 in Roxy's living room.
The end product is a 10-track collection of new songs and digital videos
connected by surreal interstitial segments that portray character creations
from Roxy's life and
experiences living on the edge of reality.
Steven Hanft (Beck, The Cure) directed two of the performance videos, Nick
Oliveri and Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age have cameos in the
videos and the interstitials, and a host of sideshow freaks and leather
and bondage girls drift in and out of half-finished conversations.
As Roxy told one UK journalist, "America's where Jerry Springer got huge,
so I write Jerry Springer songs so they can understand what I'm doing."
The UK press has already become enamored
by Roxy Saint's charms and talents, and have plastered her all over the
pages of the British papers. As Kerrang described her, "Saint blends
Marilyn Manson's glam rock stomp with Queens of the Stone Age's insouciant,
edgy cool and the in-your-face sexuality of a young PJ Harvey, filtered
through the PVC-bound art of New York underground filmmaker/photographer
Richard Kern. Admit it, you're gagging to hear her already."
