(antiTainment) Tom Cruise returns to the top
of the box office with his latest thriller Collateral. The role, where
Cruise plays a hit man who hijacks a taxi to go out on a one-night killing
spree, was a big departure for the leading man, who usually plays the good
buy in his films.
Audiences didnt seem to mind as they gave
the film an opening weekend gross of $27.4 million.
Last weeks No. 1 The Village suffered
a drastic second week drop, ticket sales declined 68% with a gross of $16.5
million. However, that gives the film a 10-day gross of $85.6 million.
The Bourne Supremacy," came in third with
$14.4 million. Fourth place was occupied by the Denzel Washington
political thriller The Manchurian Candidate", which grossed $10.3 million.
The top five was rounded out by another
new release, Brittany Murphys romantic comedy Little Black Book, which
earned a $7.1 million opening.
