Kinks Vocalist Shot During Mugging, Suspect Charged

Update: Ray Davies, frontman and guitarist
of the veteran rock group The Kinks, was shot of Sunday night in New Orleans
while attempting to catch a mugger.
New Orleans Police said the 59-year-old
singer and an unidentified woman were walking together on Burgundy Street
in the citys French Quarter around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday when two muggers
grabbed the womans purse. Davies gave chase and one of the muggers shot
him in the right thigh.
Davies was treated for the gunshot wound
at a local hospital and released.
One of the muggers, Jerome Barra, 25, was
apprehended by police and has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated
battery. The second suspect is still at large.
New Orleans Police Chief Eddie Compass
expressed regret for the incident but he added that Davies "showed poor
judgment" by running after the muggers.
Davies is best known as the frontman for
the Kinks one of the groups of the British Invasion. The band gained
international recognition in 1964 when they scored a hit with the single
"You Really Got Me" from their debut album. The band also scored big hits
with singles "All Day and All of the Night", Come Dancing and "Lola".
Davies splits his time between The Kinks
and his solo work.
