NEWS: Spielberg & Hanks, No Match For Ben Stiller’s Dodgeball
06-20-04
.
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks used to bring
major drawing power to their films, but that wasn’t the case this weekend
for their film “The Terminal”, which was badly beaten at the box office
by Ben Stiller’s new goofball comedy “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story”.
The Hanks/Spielberg film suffered from
a terminal case of lack of interest and brought in only an estimated $18.7
million, well below the reported $60 million price tag. The $20 million
dollar “Dodgeball” on the other hand, grossed an estimated $30 million.
Disney suffered a much worst fate with
their remake of “Around the World in 80 Days”. Even Jackie Chan couldn’t
keep the hot air from escaping this $100 million dollar balloon. The film
grossed an estimated $6.8 million this weekend, landing in 9th place.
