Guitarist Dregen formed the Backyard Babies in Nassj 1987 as the current Swedish Invasion (e.g. The Hives, Sahara Hotnights, The Bones) was starting to blossom. After their 1991 debut EP, Something to Swallow and a 1993 full-length called Diesel and Power Dregen put the Babies on hiatus to work with his other band, the Hellacopters.
Upon recommencing Backyard Babies in 1997 the band released Total 13, the first of three albums (including 2001's Making Enemies is Good and 2003's Stockholm Syndrome) that epitomized what rock is all about: decadently delicious songs and the cockiest of attitudes. They copped the punk/glam aesthetic of the New York Dolls and paired it with the power of Guns N' Roses. They embraced the anthem as defined by The Sex Pistols and refined by The Wildhearts and then redefined it in turn.
An early magnum opus, 2003's Stockholm Syndrome earned Backyard Babies a Swedish Grammy and a personal nod from Velvet Revolver to open their European tour, thus establishing Backyard Babies as a force to be reckoned with. The band recently teamed up with California-based Century Media label - Liquor and Poker Music, home to The Hellacopters, Nebula and Hanoi Rocks which naturally led to The Backyard Babies signing to Century Media for the other territories including the UK.
The first release through Century Media is set for release in Autumn 2005 - 'Tinnitus' - a compilation of four tracks from each album. 'Tinnitus' is an overdue introduction to one of rock n' roll's unsung diamonds. It combines experiences of the Backyard Babies' teenage years listening to The Clash, Kiss, Dead Boys, Motley Crue, The Stooges, Hanoi Rocks and the Rolling Stones with the rock n' roll circus experiences gained as a touring band. More importantly, the unrelenting rock n' roll provides a glimpse into the past as well as one of over the top, trashy, punk rawk & roll.
Hide the Jack Daniels because the Backyard Babies are bringing their booze-fueled, ear ringing, mirrored shades rock riot back to the UK in August when they play with the legendary Social Distortion and some headlining UK shows will be announced soon
