Matt Beck, current guitarist for Spitfire, former Mae guitarist, is putting together a non-profit DIY punk/hardcore compilation to raise cancer awareness. The compilation, entitled, "Friend In Need Benefit Compilation Vol. I" will benefit several foundations that provide mammograms for women who could not otherwise afford them. The record will be released on KOI Records later this year.
Issued as a double LP colored vinyl, the compilation will be a limited to only 1000 copies. Each copy will have a hand-made cover and be hand-numbered.
Bands featured on the Comp are: Norma Jean, Spitfire, Underoath, Body Electric, Bleed The Sun, Cattle Decapitation, Everything Falls Together, Avail, Cassius, Winter Solstice, From A Second Story Window, Horse The Band, Dead Poetic, As Cities Burn, Handshake Murders, Savage Brewtality, The Minor Times, The Jefferson Plane Crash, Cursed, Curl Up And Die, Jud Jud, Mika Bomb, Dead Thoughts Memory.
Currently, the record is scheduled for a fall 2005 release.
In addition to the vinyl, the compilation package will include a 30 band DVD containing live unreleased videos taken at both Hellfest and Cornerstone festivals. The DVD also contains interviews and other multimedia.
A full magazine containing literature and phone numbers for battered woman's organizations as well as pregnancy/woman's crisis center hotlines will also be included with the vinyl and DVD. The zine will contain articles on a wide range of topics including cancer awareness and political opinion.
