(press release) To celebrate Donovan's 40th
Anniversary (1965-2005), Sanctuary Midline in association with Sanctuary
Records Group is pleased to announce the May 9th release of the must- have
2-CD anthology - "Donovan's Summer Day Reflection Songs". The album coincides
with the Donovan's extensive forthcoming 26-date UK tour during May 2005
(tour dates listed below), and the May 9th release of EMI's four digitally
re-mastered Donovan albums - "Sunshine Superman" (1966), "Mellow Yellow"
(1967), "Hurdy Gurdy Man" (1968), and "Barabajagal" (1969).
Donovan started in 1965 as an unsigned
musician, and by the end of the year he enjoyed a hat-trick of hit singles
- "Catch The Wind" (reached No.4, March 1965), "Colours" (reached No.4,
June 1965), and "Turquoise" (reached No. #30, November 1965).
1965 also saw the release of three hit
albums - "What's Been Did And What's Been Hid" (reached #3, June 1965),
"Catch The Wind" and "Fairytale" (reached #20, November 1965), and the
chart-topping EP "Universal Soldier". Following the success of Donovan's
first record, "Catch The Wind", which reached #3 in the UK singles chart,
he was awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello award and hailed as the brightest
new hope of 1965. Later that same year, as with The Beatles and The Rolling
Stones before him, the ever-popular American television impresario Ed Sullivan
booked Donovan for US TV debut.
Summer Day Reflection Songs comprises,
for the very first time, all of Donovan's releases from that first hectic
year, including variants of "Catch The Wind", "Colours", "Ballad Of A Crystal
Man", and the first-ever UK release of the rare French EP track "Every
Man Has His Chain". The compilation also includes the rare song "Hey Gyp
(Dig The Slowness)", a popular/groovy "folk-funk" track which was covered
by several other artists at the time.
