(Kayos) The critically acclaimed 2006 memoir from legendary Beatles recording engineer Geoff Emerick will be released in paperback today, making his work even more widely available to the public. Here, There, and Everywhere: My Life Recording the Music of the Beatles, published by Gotham Books (a Penguin/Putnam imprint) is now available in both hardcover and in trade paperback format.

Emericks groundbreaking work with the Beatles included the landmark albums Revolver, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Abbey Road, as well as the singles Paperback Writer / Rain and Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane. He has received four Grammy awards for his work with the Beatles and with Paul McCartney as solo artist (including the multiplatinum album Band on the Run), including a prestigious lifetime Technical Award, and many of his innovations have become standard practice in recording studios to this day. In his post-Beatles career, he has worked with a wide variety of top artists, including Elvis Costello (for whom he produced the albums Imperial Bedroom and All This Useless Beauty), Jeff Beck, America, Cheap Trick, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. In 2003, he produced Nellie McKays debut CD, Get Away From Me.

In the current (March 2007) issue of MOJO magazine, Beatles producer George Martin says, A lot of it was down to Geoff Emerick. He brought a new mind to the recordings, always suggesting sonic ideas, different kinds of reverb, what we could do with the voices. He was quite prepared to break the rules. You call that top [treble]? This is top!, hed say, turning [the dial] all the way around. He was always experimenting... I loved that freedom of thought.

[an aside for you... for what it's worth. When it came time to pick the best CD of 06, I didn't pick one. I picked the hardcover version of this book instead.]
