Hey It's Yet Another Entertainment Awards Announcement

08/04/2008
.
(antiMusic) Festivals and music awards. Seems that there is a new one every weekend. While festivals can always be cool, the awards shows have gotten old real fast as it's sort of like watching those people you didn't like in high school attempt to revalidate themselves every chance they get. Is there anyone that doesn't have an awards show? Just wait, Viagra will be out with one real soon! We can't wait for the Monistat Music Awards!

We're sure some awards are worthy of attention, yadda, yadda, yadda. It's just getting old. And an awards show that actually goes out and gets corporate sponsors for individual awards? That's worth just a little contempt. It's no wonder we have so few great albums to talk about these days. The suits have taken over and the real musicians are left behind because they didn't have the right haircut. Here is the announcement about another music awards that you can ignore:

The third Vodafone Live Music Awards will take place on 18th September at the Carling Academy Brixton, London and will bring together the music industry and fans alike to celebrate the booming UK live music scene.

This year's Vodafone Live Music Awards shortlist announcement sees Duffy go head to head with Kate Nash, Estelle and last year's winner, Amy Winehouse, in the coveted Best Live Female category. Elsewhere, Mark Ronson, Dizzee Rascal, Paul Weller and Morrissey will battle it out for Best Live Male whilst Arctic Monkeys will have to hand over their crown of Best Live Act to one of this year's nominees; Kaiser Chiefs, Muse, The Verve and Primal Scream. [You can stop yawning now.]

The Vodafone Live Music Awards nominations have been put together by a panel of music industry insiders including representatives from major record labels. [oooohhh, aahhhhh, the same idiots that are filling record stores with crap music perhaps?] The public will now have the opportunity to vote from the shortlisted nominees for Best Live Return, Live Breakthrough, Festival of the Year and the Tour of the Year artists by visiting www.vodafone.co.uk/music or by texting MUSIC to 61500. The shortlist was announced by presenter Dave Berry moments before an exclusive performance by Ladyhawke and Guillemots at the Wilmington Arms, Islington.

Fans will have the chance of winning exclusive tickets to the Vodafone Live Music Awards by entering their details now on the Vodafone Live Music website (www.vodafone.co.uk/music). Tickets to the Awards are free and available to all, not just Vodafone customers. The Vodafone Live Music Awards will be broadcast on Channel 4 in September, details to be announced shortly.

This Vodafone Live Music Awards mark the culmination of this year's Vodafone TBA gigs which saw acclaimed acts performing in mini festivals. This year has seen stunning performances from The Feeling, the Hoosiers and Sugababes at Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens and still to come are N.E.R.D., McFly and The Streets who are playing on the legendary Brighton beach on 10th August.

[We'd post the list of nominees but the press agent sent it over in format that looks very pretty in Word but it can't be transferred over with a lot of work which this story isn't worth. Sorry!]
