Beatles and Floyd Engineer Dies

(NME) Norman Smith, who was an engineer for every Beatles recording session from 1962 to 1965 and went on to produce Pink Floyd's first three albums, has died at the age of 85.

Under the name Hurricane Smith, he also enjoyed hit singles in his own right in the early 1970s.

Smith began working for EMI in 1959, and in the absence of producer George Martin was in charge of The Beatles' first session at Abbey Road on June 6, 1962. - more on this story
