Today we look at the top stories from the first half of 2003 as we continue our quick look back at some of the biggest stories of the past decade. Tragedy struck early in the year when almost a hundred people were killed at Great White concert at the Station Nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island, when the ceiling of the venue caught fire and the blaze quickly spread throughout the club. At press time 97 people are confirmed dead and more than 200 people were injured. Great White guitarist Ty Longley is currently missing. [He was later more as one of the victims]. The fire started when flames from the band�s pyrotechnics display ignited the ceiling above the stage. Fans in the audience at first thought it was part of the show but panic broke out once the fire quickly spread and filled the nightclub with dark smoke causing patrons to rush towards the exits. more. One of the follow-up stories dealt with fan's anger at MTV for their lack of coverage, and their resident dork posing as a metal head defense of the network's lack of coverage in light of their previous wall to wall coverage of the death of Tupac, St. Left-eye and Jam Master Jay. more

Maurice Gibb, a member of the Disco supergroup the Bee Gee�s, died at a Miami hospital. He Was 53. Last Thursday Gibb was rushed to the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami where he underwent emergency abdominal surgery. more

�I think I am about the first person to ever get thrown out of the Hall of Fame,� former AC/DC Bass player Mark Evans told Australian rock site Undercover. As you may or may not know AC/DC will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this month. At first bass player Mark Evans, who played on the groups first three studio albums (those released in the US), was to be inducted along with the other members of the band but then suddenly Mark found out that the Rock Hall had changed the rules and he wasn�t going to be inducted. more

Jason Newsted missed his first show in 17 years, a source close to the band tells antiMUSIC. Blink-182 have been slapped with a lawsuit from one of their former roadies, who claims that he came up with the title to the band�s 2001 �Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.� Larry Palm filed suit against the band last week in Los Angeles, claiming breach of oral contact, fraud, and unjust enrichment, among other allegations. more

If what Scott Weiland has told Rolling Stone is correct then the band code named �The Project� that features former Guns N� Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum has a new lead singer and also has a new name, �Reloaded�. Phil Anselmo isn't fronting three bands anymore. He's narrowed it down to one, and it's not influential metal band Pantera. He was juggling being vocalist for Pantera, Down, and Superjoint Ritual at the same time and he said that he's chosen to just stick with Superjoint Ritual . "There was a lot of business with Warner Bros. and this and that Down and Pantera and this and that, and etc. etc.... Whatever. Pretty much what I'm doing here is I'm sticking with Superjoint, and I'm not doing f--kin' anything else. This is where I'm most comfortable and this it the type of music that I wanna do, you know?" more

Axl tells us that the new Guns N' Roses album is coming soon! This one didn't pan out as expected (soon equaled six years) but it was cool to have Axl Rose crash our party and he was actually really cool in person. antiGuy had a news item/editorial about the encounter: Guns N� Roses frontman Axl Rose is confident that the album will be released soon. On Sunday Night, antiMUSIC co-hosted a viewing/release party for the new Led Zeppelin DVD at the Cat Club in Hollywood. GNR frontman, Axl Rose was among those who showed up for the party. more

Chester Bennington, vocalist for the rock band Linkin Park was admitted to a Los Angeles area hospital last Friday afternoon after an attack of severe back and abdominal pains. Bennington remains hospitalized as doctors are still trying to determine the cause of these ailments more

The Who�s Pete Townshend is at the center of a child porn controversy after a British paper reported that an �unnamed� UK rock star was under investigation for his involvement with online child porn. Townshend admits that he has paid to view child porn on the Internet but claims that he was simply investigating the websites in his �one-man battle� against child porn. more

R. Kelly was arrested for the second time for child porn related charges. Kelly would is currently facing child porn related charges in Illinois was arrested by authorities in Florida after investigators searched the rappers home and discovered a dozen nude photographs of a girl police suspect is underage. more

Over the past few years Metallica has never shied away from using litigation to achieve their goals. In the past the band has taken on Napster , fans who swap their music online, a perfume company and even their own record label. Now it appears they have their legal guns aimed at an unsigned band out of Edmonton, Canada that is using the name Metallica without the California group�s permission. more

On the positive side: Metallica is once again a four-member band. The bassist slot that has been vacant since the departure of Jason Newsted has now been officially filled by former Ozzy Osbourne and Suicidal Tendencies bassman, Robert Trujillo. more

Police in England and the Netherlands recovered more than 500 reel-to-reel tapes from The Beatles �Let It Be� sessions during anti-piracy sweep on Friday. more

When he�s not belting out songs with his band U2, Bono is out trying to save the world. It looks like people are paying attention to his efforts as his name is on the short list for this year�s Nobel Peace Prize . more

John Densmore , the original drummer of the Doors filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against his former bandmates, keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger. Densmore charges Mazarek and Kreiger with breach of contract, trademark infringement and unfair competition. more

The Police gave the audience at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony a special treat on Monday night when the trio reunited in honor of their induction. Sting , Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers took the stage together for the first time in 18 years at the decidedly un-rock n roll black tie affair at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. In related news, Stewart Copeland has filed suit against The Doors� Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. more

The Offspring who in the recent past took to selling Napster gear on their website when the online file swapping company was in the midst of controversy are now having some more fun at the expense of Axl Rose. And Axl isn�t too happy about it. The southern California punk band became the target of Axl Rose�s legal guns when they proposed calling their new album �Chinese Democrazy (You Snooze You Lose),� a tongue in cheek reference to the Axl Rose led Guns N Roses album that has been under development for close to a decade now. Warning to bands, if you give a sub par performance or appear �out of it� during a concert then your fans may sue to get their money back. That�s a lesson Creed is learning at the moment as four fans have reportedly filed suit against group asking to be reimbursed for tickets and parking following a controversial show last December in Chicago where Creed frontman was allegedly "so intoxicated and/or medicated that he was unable to sing the lyrics of a single Creed song." more

In one of the strangest music related stories in a while, a fan in Bergen, Norway was injured during a concert last Thursday night when he was struck in the skull by a flying sheep�s head. The Associated Press reports that members of Norwegian death metal band, Mayhem, were carving up a dead sheep on stage as part of their show �when the animal's head flew off lead singer Maniac's knife and struck 25-year-old Per Kristian Hagen.� more
