(antiMusic) Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Beau Burchell from Saosin tells us about "Deep Down" from their brand new album "In Search Of Solid Ground". We now turn it over to Beau for the story:

This song came about towards the end of the record. We had already recorded a batch of songs with producer Butch Walker, and Chris and I had self produced another 5 or songs ourselves. We still felt like the record needed some more songs to round out the records sound. So we sat down again to write a few more songs. We came up with the main intro riff, and a basic chorus melody that we basically built the song around.

The song has a lot of different issues that it touches, although most people will probably not dive that far into the lyrics. Environmental issues like global warming affect us whether we know it or not. The beginning lyrics hint at our actions of yesterday affecting our futures. And the bridge could be interpreted as people only looking out for themselves, because they feel like everything else is unsalvageable.

I think about the chorus as me trying to reach out to those people, with no success, and not being able to relate to their ways. All in all I'd like to think of the song that would inspire hope and change, even though at first glance it seems very dark.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
