Van Halen Guitar Theft Arrest

09/29/2009
.
(Rock Radio) Three men have been arrested in New York over a fraudulent shipping scam which, it's said, allowed them to steal $55,000 of musical instruments, including a limited-edition replica of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstein guitar.

Only 300 copies have ever been built, featuring Van Halen's hand-painted stripes, hand-cut pickup cavities with non-functioned third pickup, a 1971 quarter coin jammed under the tremelo unit, master volume pot marked 'Tone' and cigarette burn marks on the head. Complete with EVH case and collector's items, the guitar sells for $25,000.

New York police arrested Jeronimo Frutero, who works in the shipping department of the American Musical Supply store. They also took his associate Richard Rodriguez into custody. - more on this story
