The Day in Rock Digest for 8/25/10: The Cure's former drummer Lol Tolhurst has reached out to frontman Robert Smith in a bid to rejoin the band, more than 20 years after he was fired. Tolhurst left the group in the late 1980s because of an alleged drinking problem, but he's now keen to reunite with his former bandmates in time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Cure's seminal 1981 album "Faith" in 2011. more

Rush did something special for Chicago fans on Monday night when they played a makeup gig in the windy (and previously rainy) city. Tony K reports: a local radio DJ took to the stage. He announced the band and their management have made special one-of-a-kind baseball hats for the crowd as a "thank you" for coming back for the rescheduled show. On the back of it, stitched in was "The Rain Date Chicago-2010", making this an immediate collectible. more

Stone Sour, the side project from Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor, have announced a free concert set to take place on August 30th, 2010 in New York City at The Studio at Webster Hall. more

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson reveals he was once asked to star in a gruesome reality show but insists he's ruled out ever performing or mentoring on TV contests like Simon Cowell's U.K. series "The X Factor". Dickinson tells Britain's The Sun, "We would never do a TV show like X Factor and we would never play Glastonbury. I cannot stand X Factor." more.

Meanwhile, Hits Daily Double has Iron Maiden's new album, The Final Frontier, at #4 on their Building Album Sales Chart with 61,935 units sold as of today (Tuesday, August 24th). According to Inmusic.ca The Final Frontier has topped the HMV Canada's sales charts. more
