. Mike Portnoy Quits Dream Theater was a top story in September. Here it is again as we recap 2010: Mike Portnoy dropped a bombshell on Dream Theater fans, announcing that he is leaving the group after 25 years.

Portnoy is currently playing with Avenged Sevenfold, taking the place of drummer James "The Rev" Sullivan who was found dead in his home last December.

Both Dream Theater and Portnoy have issued statements about splitting (you can read both in full below) but Portnoy summed us his reasons for leaving by saying, ""After having had such amazing experiences playing with Hail, Transatlantic and Avenged Sevenfold this past year, I have sadly come to the conclusion that I have recently had more fun and better personal relations with these other projects than I have for a while now in Dream Theater" - his full statement
