The Metal Den reports that they have received the earliest Metallica demo ever unearthed. It is a recording of a rough 'work in progress' version of the classic song "Hit The Lights" off the groundbreaking heavy metal album Kill 'Em All from 1983. The song features Dave Mustaine on guitar, Ron McGovney on bass, Lars Ulrich on drums and James Hetfield on vocals. Hetfield still had not fully learned to play guitar yet and was only handling singing chores. more including the song

The Rolling Stones, who have long resisted releasing archival material, will include 10 previously unheard songs in an upcoming reissue of "Exile on Main Street," the group's representatives said on Thursday. more

In what might be the strangest lawsuit of this young year, a drummer and self-professed sex addict who spent four years with the band Skid Row is claiming his former bandmates are talking trash about him and preventing him from using the Skid Row name to promote himself. Here's the first paragraph of Phil Varone's complaint against former Skid-mates David Sabo and James Southworth (aka Rachel Bolan), filed Friday in L.A. Superior Court: "Plaintiff Varone is, first and foremost, a rock star. One can see that just by looking at him. Korn's bassist Reginald Arvizu aka Fieldy is planning to shock fans with his second solo album - the heavy metal rocker has abandoned the genre in favor of jazz fusion. The "Freak on a Leash" rocker is putting the finishing touches on "Bassically", a follow-up to his 2002 rap record "Rock'n Roll Gangster". more
