The Rubinoos Announce Album for Kids (and Adults In Touch With Their Inner Child)

02/26/2010
.
The Rubinoos, the power pop progenitors who trace their roots back to the day in 1968 when Jon Rubin met Tommy Dunbar at Martin Luther King Jr Junior High School in Berkeley, CA have announced that their first album aimed at kids, BIFF - BOFF - BOING!, will be released on March 30th.

While the group had embraced a juvenile sensibility in earlier work including their hit cover version of "I Think We're Alone Now" and the oft-imitated original "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," the new album was recorded with kids specifically in mind and features a children's chorus on a number of B - B - B songs. Dunbar and Rubin commented, "We've been acting like kids for the better part of our so-called adult lives so we thought it was high time we adjusted our act for kids."

BIFF - BOFF - BOING!'s twelve tracks include a slew of silly standards that include "Peanut Butter," "Witch Doctor," "You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd," "Rockin' In The Jungle" and others. Clever originals loaded with kid appeal abound as well; among those are "Have A Cow" and the green-themed "Earth Number One."

The album was previewed for a panel of early childhood education specialists who have resoundingly endorsed the effort. Ruth Kaiser, M.A., CEO and founder of the Tot Drop Preschools holds teaching credentials for preschool, elementary, high school and adult education, commented, "I so LOVE this CD. I have been a teacher for more than three decades and was so happy to hear this recent addition to the world of children's music! So much that we hear from this genre is suitable only for children under three years old and none of it stomach-able for adults! Finally something a parent or teacher can enjoy along with their kids!"

Patricia Gangwer, M.A. teaches kindergarten in Point Richmond, CA and tested BIFF - BOFF - BOING! on her class and reported, "My students love to sing and dance to the songs on Biff - Boff - Boing! The CD has already become a class favorite! The kindergarten crowd especially loves the 'Peanut Butter' song, and 'Rockin' In The Jungle' is perfect for the freeze dance. The First Lady wants to get kids to exercise and get their bodies moving and Biff - Boff - Boing! will do the trick! So let's all get up and dance!"

"As someone who has taught for over 10 years, it's refreshing to hear children's music that appeals to the silly, yet sophisticated sense of humor of my students. Biff - Boff - Boing! is for anyone that enjoys fun, upbeat music. It's a must have for kids and parents alike," comments Brenda Rinard, M.A., a doctoral candidate at University of California Davis and teacher at Stanford's Education Program for Gifted Youth.

Judy Moore, M.A., is a licensed educational psychologist who notes, "Biff - Boff - Boing! creates a fun-loving mood with its upbeat retro rock sounds and its silly kid-pleasing lyrics! Love the concrete child thinking that goes into 'Have a Cow' and nonsense appeal of witchdoctors, spiders, pirates and peanut butter. Great for children and adults who love them."

The Rubinoos' current line-up consists of co-founders Rubin (vocals) and Dunbar (guitar and vocals), bassist Al Chan who has been with the group for a mere 30 years as well as Susie Davis on keyboards and vocals and drummer David Rokeach. The group is looking forward to performance dates for kids and their parents in support of the album.
