Michael Jackson Doctor Will Reportedly Be Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter

This story broke on Friday in the Day in Pop but we decided to run it here for those rock fans that may also be fans of Michael Jackson. We also included a small update: The LAPD investigation into the cause of Michael Jackson's death has reportedly been completed and the case will now be turned over to the district attorney with Jackson's doctor reportedly facing charges, according to reports.

FMQB reported on Friday, "Now that the LAPD has completed a thorough report, the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney within the next few weeks." (read their report here) The Associated Press contradicted the report that the case is closed but they reported on the expected outcome: Prosecutors are prepared to seek an indictment of Michael Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, on a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the pop star's death, the Associated Press has learned.

A law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation remains open said Friday that Murray would be prosecuted on a theory of gross negligence alleging that his treatment of Jackson was an extreme departure from the standard of care normally followed by physicians. Update: NME reports that Michael Jackson's death certificate has been published online � showing in detail how it was amended to officially list the late singer's passing as homicide. In a statement of corrections on the form "Acute Propofol intoxication", "Homicide" and "Intravenous injection by another" can be seen as having been added to the cause of death section. - Read more here
